THE PROBLEMComplex Wiring Systems. Today’s sophisticatedaircraft and weaponry electronics have becomeincreasingly more complex.Personnel Training. The technician who mustmaintain these systems cannot possibly beknowledgeable about all the various types ofterminations and associated tooling needed torepair the vast number of interconnections whichmake up these systems.Time Requirements. Once the system becomesinoperative, the pressure to return the system tooperation does not permit the luxury of researchingthe answers to these tooling problems.

THE SOLUTIONResearch. DMC does all the necessary researchto relieve this pressure and eliminate the guess-work and haphazard, trial-and-error utilization oftools by developing detailed Tool Selection Chartsto cross reference all the connectors with vitalrepair tool data.

Packaging. DMC then packages these ToolSelection Charts, Contents Charts, and InstructionSheets with all the crimping tools, turrets, dies,wire strippers, installing tools, removal tools andother accessories necessary to support the system in durable cases so the tools are properlyorganized and protected.Ready Access. The complete TECHNICAL DATA PACKAGE is a keyfeature of every DMC Wiring System Service Kit. TheTECHNICAL DATA PACKAGE consists of three elements:

CONTENTS CHARTSIncrease Efficiency/Reduce FOD. These charts offer a visual representation of the storage compartments for alltools in the kit. These charts enable the technician to quicklyscan the kit be assured that no tools are missing prior todeparting to make a repair. While this obviously allows theuser to easily locate the required tools, it also decreases the likelihood that important components will become lostor left behind in areas where they may later cause damageto electrical circuitry, or system failure (Foreign ObjectDamage—F.O.D.). The CONTENTS CHARTS also list all the tools by part number, so reordering information is imme-diately available should a component require replacement.All tools are identified by common industry part numbers.

INSTRUCTION SHEETSSave Time And Money Spent On Retraining. DMCprovides detailed step-by-step directions on how to preparea tool for use, crimp contacts, install and remove contacts,strip wire, and gauge tools and contacts. INSTRUCTIONSHEETS are also available to meet foreign language orunique special purpose tool requirements.

TOOL SELECTION CHARTSEliminate Trial And Error Tool Selection. Thesedetailed charts are developed from the actual connectorlists of the system being supported, and are designed todirect the technician in the selection of the proper toolsand accessories. DMC does all the research to crossreference the appropriate tooling for proper disassembly,repair and assembly of the power, RF and other con-nectors in the system. The TOOL SELECTION CHARTSidentify the connectors in alpha/numeric order by theirmilitary and/or commercial designations; identify thecontacts by part number and color code whereapplicable; list applicable wire sizes; and identify the appropriate crimp tool and associated turret/ positioner/die, installing tool and removal tool forwired and unwired contacts where applicable.

The TECHNICAL DATA PACKAGE is affixedto the Kit and protected by transparent, plasticlamination to prevent environmental damage.

ENVIRONMENTAL PACKAGINGAn analysis of the environmental conditions and other

factors is of absolute necessity from the beginning. On-sitefield maintenance requires a packaging system wheremaximum portability and component protection are thecontrolling factors, whereas maintenance kits designed for depot-level support are based primarily on convenientlocation of components and other significant factors importantto that environment.

CUSTOM SIZESDepending upon the complexity of the system being sup-

ported, the tools and technical data are protected in variousformats: from a single metal tool box for basic, on-site repairs to multi-drawer, roll-around cabinets for depot-level repairs.

FOAM INSERTSFoam inserts (standard for all DMC kits) provide each

component with a designated storage space which isindicated on the Contents Charts. This assures the technicianthat no needed components are missing prior to departing to make the repair. The technician also knows, prior to leaving the on-site repair, that if a foam compartmentis empty, then a component is missing and must beretrieved. This helps eliminate FOD (Foreign ObjectDamage) problems.
