Office of the President

The holidays are upon us. Giving us pause to reflect on the

many great blessings we have been given, family, friends,

health and prosperity.

I am also grateful to be a part of this Corvette Club. I have

been able to see so many great things. The support this

club gives to those who need it. The willingness to help and

support other members of this club in all types of ways.

Sure this is a Corvette club but it is also a club of people

and some very wonderful people, in deed.

I am so grateful we live in a free country and appreciate the opportunities that affords me. One of those

is being able to drive and enjoy our Corvettes. Going where we please, as we please in such a fine

automobile. Racing and gathering as a group that enjoy our Corvettes.

As we look back at all the enjoyment we have had in our Corvettes this year and then look forward to

what is yet to come. May we take a moment and appreciate what we have been a part of.

My family and I want to wish you all the joy and happiness the New Year can contain. We also want to

thank you for being who you are and the privilege it has been to be involved with this Corvette Club.

Your

President,

Kevin Reit

From the Governor’s desk…

Well, it finally happened, the snow has come and seems to want to stay. I know

my car is tucked in and covered in the heated garage until warmer weather

comes our way again. Spring is only 80 days away, be here before we know it,

right?

The race season is now over and I must say, the adventure Ray Kennedy, Gene

Gau and myself had going to Ohio is something that will live in infamy, Look in

this month’s edition, I know Gene did a write up. We did have a lot of fun and

met some great people from the Mid-West region. If you haven’t had a chance to travel to events out of

region, I strongly suggest it. The NCCC as a whole is one great big family.

As we prepare for Christmas and New Year’s, I would like to thank everyone that came out to the Toys

for Tots holiday party. Your generosity is appreciated and on a grand scale. As we approach the New

Year, remember we will be choosing charities, including local ones, which can benefit from an

organization such as ours. We will still support the national charity, St. Jude’s but we will also add local

ones as well. Be thinking of organizations that can benefit from us supporting them as we will submit

ideas in a future general meeting. At the time of writing this I do not know how much our contribution

to St. Jude’s will be this year, but we will announce it at the general meeting once determined.

Stay warm. It’s okay to sit in your car in the garage and make engine noises. Be safe if traveling. Have a

Merry Christmas, enjoy the holiday season and have a Happy New Year. Go ahead, ask Santa for a new

or another Corvette.

Don’t forget, we still have business to attend to at our general meetings, we look forward to seeing you

there during the winter months. As I mentioned earlier, spring is right around the corner (it’s a long

corner) and we will right back into activities in the club that has something for everyone.

Fast Draw

On Wednesday evening November 7th the River City

Gunslingers, Cowboy Fast Draw Club hosted the

Cornhusker Corvette Club at their home range. The

range is located south and west of the Honey Creek

exit off of I-29 in Iowa. Randy and Johnny Lynn

Williams own the farm that the home range is located

on.

Dave Williams welcomed the Corvette Club and

provided a brief background about the club followed by a detailed explanation of how to

properly handle, load and fire the gun when participating in

Cowboy Fast Draw. Attendees wanting to shoot were then

assisted by members of the River City Gunslingers. Several of

the attendees did shoot while many others just wanted to

watch. Everyone had a good time, snacks were provided and

following the event several attendees indicated they would be

joining the club.

Thanks to the eleven River City Gunslingers who

volunteered to help and the 25 corvette club attendees –

4 of which are already River City Gunslingers.

Where You Been Lately?

We hurried home after a plentiful Thanksgiving feast because I knew seat time was 6 am, and Ray would

be early. Sure enough, at 510 am, I got a text, I’m hooked up. Who knew? That was the beginning of

our trip to Toledo. We being Ray Kennedy, Jonathon Brown and me. The two figured they needed one

more weekend of competing in order to stay in the top 15 in NCCC points standings in the nation.

Ray drove the first leg until the sun came up and I took over. After a fuel stop, Ray stocked up on junk

food. Have you ever smelled pork rinds in a tight place? I know you have George. Well these weren’t

quite as bad as the ones you had in Bowling Green, but on as scale of 1 to 10, they were a 9. I stayed

behind the wheel until we got to Elkhart, Indiana. We were invited to stay at Mike and Diane Jobe’s

house. They are real nice people with comfortable rooms. I thought for a while I was in a room with a

Coast Guard guy with all the snoring and farting going on, but it turned out to be Ray.

We left a 6am and headed for Toledo. Upon arriving, we encountered wind, rain and cold weather. Just

perfect for auto crossing. Rene Cardenas had set up a fun course and Ray and Jonathon had a ball while I

worked the start line and froze my you know what off.

On Saturday night we stayed at a Days

Inn, recommended by a friend of Rays.

He said it was a great place, and it turns

out it wasn’t. We should have guessed

with room rates of $29.00 for two king

sized beds. The hallway was filthy,

room keys wouldn’t work, the rooms

were either 50 degrees or 90 degrees, the

food was cold and the waitress was

retarded. The best was yet to come. We

were joined by Reagan Kennedy, Ray’s

younger and better-looking brother.

Page 10: Contents - storage.googleapis.com · The Birthday winner for November was Mary Ann Laaker. Mary Ann is having a birthday party on November 18. th. and the entire Club is invited

Page | 10 December 2018

After our scrumptious dinner, we retired to our rooms. At

1:15 am, a loud banging on Ray’s door woke him and

Reagan up. With guns drawn, Ray peeked through the peep

hole. On the other side was a good-looking black lady of the

evening. She hollered, “you guys call for a date” to which

Reagan replied, leave or get shot. Of course, neither of them

would admit to calling her. She must have had the wrong

room. Sunday morning found us in the free breakfast room.

Hard boiled eggs and bagels. WOW! Coffee was good and

cold. Needless to say, this place is not on our return trip any time soon.

It wasn’t as cold Sunday morning and not raining, thank

God. Rene let outta towners run all seven events right out of

the chute. We were out of there at 10 am our time. A lot of

people were sending texts about the bad weather in our path.

Yeah right, roads were clear. About 2 pm, holy crap. The

worst road conditions I’ve ever driven. Towards the end of

the day, it took me four hours to go 50 miles. Without the

help of Ray guiding me and Jonathon constantly on his

phone, I would have gotten lost on the interstate. I couldn’t tell sometimes if I was still on the road. Only

the rumble strips kept me on track.

Ray was in the passenger seat and at one time said that he was so

nervous and up tight, that you couldn’t drive a 16 penny nail up his

ass with a sledge hammer. We laughed for a long time after that

one. Semi’s would go around us doing 50 miles per hour and one

almost hit our mirror, couldn’t have been more than ¼ inch

clearance. When we arrived at our motel, I was worn out. Jonathon

did a great job finding us a place to stay. Some hotels had raised

prices over $100.00, just because of the storm.

Hopefully, both guys will stay in the top 15, we should all be proud of their accomplishments. I hope

they both get an award next year in Denver. That’s where I’ve been lately, hopefully never again in such

bad driving conditions.
