Main Image On this contents page Wiz Khalifa is used for ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer).Here Wiz Khalifa shows many of the stereotypes which are often associated with the Hip-Hop genre, such as; he is wearing a cap, jewelry. He also has many tattoos and is smoking. This highlights the genre of the magazine and attracts not just fans of Hip-Hop music but of the Hip-Hop culture as a whole.

SubheadingsThe subheadings are placed in a transparent box in front of the main image of Wiz Khalifa to make sure that they stand out along with the image and the reader is not just interested in the image. The subheadings feature a variety of celebrities (‘star appeal’). Each subheading has a subline which tells the reader what they can find on each of the pages which may make them want to read the article.

These subheadings are something which I wish to ‘repeat’ (Steve Neal) in my magazine. This is because I like the way in which the box with the text in is transparent and therefore a decent amount of text can be included without covering the image. Also, by the box being transparent it almost appears as if both the subheadings and image are on the same level and so the subheadings are not ignored.

Issue NumberI believe that the issue number, although often overlooked, is an important feature of a contents page as it informs the reader how many issues have been published and the month that the issue was published. If I choose to incorporate a similar idea then I could create a theme throughout the contents page of using transparent text boxes.

Drop CapitalThis drop capital is something which I wish to replicate for my magazine as it immediately attracts the attention of the reader and draws to the article, therefore making them more likely to read it.

Main ImageI would like to have a similar styled image for my magazine. This is because it implies success, wealth and celebration and therefore incorporates Richard Dyer’s ‘Star Appeal’.
