Photographic Projects

he Russian artists represented here prepared photographic projects especially for this issue of Art Journal devoted to contemporary Russian photogra-

phy. They employ a variety of means and materials, including multiple printing and toning (Galina Moskaleva), torn paper and found images (Igor Moukhin), needlework and metallic ink (Viktoria Buivid), paint and typesetting (Alexei Shul-

gin), and color ink markers (Boris Mihailov). Only one works with straight photographs alone (Alexander Slyusarev). These artists' practices are addressed in the critical essays that follow.

VIKTORIA BUIVID was born in 1962 and lives in St. Petersburg.

BORIS MIHAILOV was born in 1938 and lives in Kharkov, Ukraine.

GALINA MOSKALEVA was born in 1954 and lives in Minsk, Belarus.

IGOR MOUKHIN was born in 1961 and lives in Moscow.

ALEXEI SHULGIN was born in 1963 and lives in Moscow.

ALEXANDER SLYUSAREV was born in 1944 and lives in Moscow.
