SAINT CECILIA TO HOST DYNAMIC CATHOLIC “FIND YOUR GREATNESS”

Saturday, October 20, 2018 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., in the Church Great habits create great lives. Are your habits helping you become the-best-version-of- yourself? To all my sons and daughters in Christ! Resurrexit sicut dixit! Surrexit vere! He has risen as He said! He is truly risen! The Christian faithful who gather together as one to await the Lord’s coming are instructed by the Apostle Paul to sing together psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (cf. Col 3:16). Singing is the sign of the heart’s joy (cf. Acts 2:46).

Thus St. Augustine says rightly, “Singing is for one who loves.” There is also the ancient proverb: “One who sings well prays twice.” Although it is not always necessary (e.g., in weekday Masses) to sing all the texts that are of themselves meant to be sung, every care should be taken that singing by the ministers and the people is not absent in celebrations that occur on Sundays and on holy days of obligation.

The above words are taken from the Introduction to the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM.) This document, the GIRM, is the book which lays out how the Christian faithful celebrate Mass. In coming weeks I will be preaching about the importance of music and song in the Christian life and how we can more deeply engage in faithfully worshipping the Lord in His holy temple. I love you all like Jesus! Fr. Eric

BIBLE STUDY - THE GOSPEL

OF JOHN APRIL 9

responds to that by providing

accessible yet significant

commentary on John’s Gospel

drawn from the best of

contemporary biblical scholarship

Church’s tradition. Like the loaves

and fishes multiplied by Jesus, the

Gospel of John provides a great

education, and challenges to all its

readers, whether beginners or

experienced. Discover what God has

revealed and is still speaking to us

through the Gospel.

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS Good and gracious God, You call each person by name and invite them to follow you. On this World Day of Prayer for Vocations, may each person hear and respond to the call they have received. We pray for all discerning marriage, the chaste single life, consecrated life, or ordained ministries, that your Holy Spirit would guide, inspire, and strengthen them. May your Church and the world be enriched by the “yes” of your children. Amen.
