AAR- This incident occurred in a correctional facility in 2009. Two inmates engaged in fight. When CO’s broke up fight inmates were directed face and hands against wall in search position until environment was secure. After a few seconds this inmates legs started to give out and he collapsed. This effort was unsuccessful and heart was described by medical staff as being a gelatinous “blob”. Inmate pronounced dead.

Firsthand account of altercation noted that deceased inmate knew there was going to be a fight with another inmate and wore leather gloves in anticipation of event. Lighting conditions were poor and inmate may not have seen weapon. The offending weapon was 9.5 inches long and .5 inch wide metal homemade shank. Photos of weapon pending
