A house fire broke out earlier this week in Benidorm, Tom Storey who lives next door heard a disturbance and went outside, and he could then hear shouting and screaming. There was smoke billowing from the house before he knew it Danny Downing was on the scene, Danny, another neighbour was alerted by his girlfriend and immediately ran over the road, the pair immediately noticed a gas canister and were aware of imminent danger. Tom pulled down the garden fence like a superhero to reach the burning house and Danny rushed into the house to save the man. Tom told The Buzz “I immediately called emergency services which was a bit of a joke it took them far too long to respond as they couldn’t understand me and had to find someone who understood English”, while on the phone Danny managed to pull the man out, the man known as Joseph is a Dutch hearing impaired OAP who lives next door to Tom. Tuesday is news day in Marina Baixa, the weekly Buzz team are busy preparing for next week’s issue, if you have any news stories, events or announcements to make then please call us on 965 857300 or e mail [email protected] back to work for most of us now it seems as though Christmas is far in the past and things are well underway for the months to come, it s full steam ahead with 2014.The best thing about January in the Costa Blanca is that we can be certain that the spring and summer months will provide us and thousands of visitors with fantastic weather and so much more. With a very positive and exciting new year ahead the 2014 diary is already shaping up to be the most exciting for many years. Why?Well Spain and the Costa Blanca have been continuing to increase in popularity for visitors, holidaymakers and new businesses choosing to start up here. Cheap property prices will continue to attract both residents and businesses, together with the fact that Alicante airport is convenient to travel to and from most EU countries. With a fun packed diary for the year we can appreciate that being here has so much to offer and it’s not just the fantastic sunny days or the long sandy beaches there is so much on offer. See our centre pages for a complete 2014 wall planner with many special events and reminders including key sports dates.Unfortunately for those who are back in the UK in the wet and storm battered country, it makes you feel much better to be here, we have woken up to another beautiful sunny day with the outlook for the rest of the month to be mainly sunny and temperatures above average and reaching 19 degrees.

The king of Spain's youngest daughter and former Olympic handball player has been

summoned to appear in court over money laundering and tax evasion allegationsJosé Castro, the investigating judge of Palma de Mallorca court ordered 48-year-old Infanta Cristina to appear for questioning on Majorca. The charges relate to the alleged embezzlement of public funds by Princess Cristina's husband, Iñaki Urdangarin, the Duke of Palma. The court on the island of Majorca is looking into claims her husband and his former business partner, Diego Torres, embezzled six million euros (£5m) in public funds via, a charitable foundation he created to organise sports events (Noos Institute) in which Infanta Cristina was also a member of the board, the three deny wrongdoing.Investigators suspect another company called Aizoon served as a front for laundering the money and

was jointly owned by the Spanish Princess and her husband. This is the first time a direct relative of the monarch has been ordered to appear in court accused of wrongdoing and is yet another blow to the Spanish royal family's reputation. The royals began to lose their shine, first with rumours of the king's extra-marital affairs and then the divorce of Cristina's older sister. Then, two years ago, Juan Carlos was photographed standing proudly next to the elephant he shot on a hunting trip in Botswana. This proved too much for many Spaniards. Not only was the king honorary president of the World Wildlife Fund but embarking on such an expensive trip in a country with more than five million people out of work seemed proof that the royals were out of touch. In a written ruling, the judge said he had decided to hear Cristina's testimony on March 8. Formal charges could follow.

AFTEr MOrE THAN A DECADE OF UPS, DOWNS, TWISTS AND TUrNS, THE SEAFrONT OF AlTEA IS GETTING IT´S MUCH NEEDED MAKEOvEr.The project that will remodel the second beach was awarded 4.4 million euros last year to make the improvements needed.Work includes the removal of what is known as El Charco (the pond) which is an artificial lagoon enclosed by a sea wall, it will be replaced by an artificial pebble beach 40 meters wide and at a length of 1.6 kilometers that will reach from the port to the mouth of the river Algar with coastal barrier protection.El Charco was created in the mid 70’s with the

construction of an outer breakwater dam in order to protect urban waterfront wave action. This type of construction made the renewal of water within the lake very low despite the five river mouths open sea, because of this, the lagoon has become a source of contamination making the water unfit for swimming but also causing odours and insect infestationWith operations starting very soon, the work will start by draining the pond to remove all the sludge they will then move on to the installation of the new pebble beach, this will only be phase one of the massive project as phase two will involve renovations to the promenade.

It was quite frightening for him, but we saved the bloke and that’s the main thing.”Danny Downing a comedian who works in Benidorm and Tom Storey has an Elvis Tribute show. From the 10th of January 2014 the Spanish government has introduced the new ruling to comply with standards set by the EASA before Christmas The EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) approved the use of electronic devices during all phases of flight last year; this includes eBook readers (such as Kindles), tablets and portable game consoles however mobile phones will only be allowed as long as they are put into ‘airplane mode.’ The use laptops and other larger devices will still not be permitted during take-off and landing which is understandable due to their size. It is now the task of individual airlines to decide whether they allow the use of these devices or not during the start and end of

their flights but will still have to gain the approval of the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) if they decide to include these exceptions on their flights.Airlines in the US and UK have already started implementing changes which have been welcomed by staff and passengers commenting that the flexibility will now provide an even more comfortable experience when flying, it may be some time for airlines to implement changes if they wish to do so as part of the change will include ensuring the aircraft can handle all radio interference from devices and that flight attendants are properly trained to ensure everyone’s safety upon boarding, taker off and landing.

BENIdoRm sERIEs 6What´s your take?

Everyone got to witness the return of some fabulous old faces and new ones that have given viewers lots to think about! This week we got to see A hunky new barman called Jason who turned up at the Solana (ex-Hollyoaks actor Philip Olivier, 33) he was looking for bar work and made quite a good impression especially with the ladies, much to Mateo's annoyance. So much so, the musclemen ended up having a scrap.Clive Dyke found his daughter Bianca (Bel Powley) wandering through Alicante Airport in tears while Tiger Dyke persuaded Michael to help him steal the Solana’s all inclusive wristbands & sell them in town, leading to Neptune’s Bar being completely rammed. The first two episodes were packed full of locations familiar to regular visitors and people living here in Benidorm, we got to see the Heartbreak rock Bar inside and out (did you notice the classic yellow American Car near the front?) levante beachfront is always a popular location for filming with it´s beautiful sandy beach and wide promenade, we all know that most of the filming takes place in the Morgans Tavern (disguised as Neptunes Bar), Sol Pelicanos for the pool scenes and the Pink house which can be found opposite Benidorm Palace. There are only five more episodes left of this season but have no fear the show

is contracted for another season with hopes of many it will continue much longer, rumour has it that Johnny vegas is currently in talks to return to the show in season seven, now that’s something worth waiting for!

'benIdorm' Star HannaH WaddInGHam WaS GroPed The 39-year-old actress joined the ITv1 comedy last week

as stuck up Tonya Dyke, but admitted that she hated shooting her scenes in Sol Pelicanosshe spoke to national media and said: "I have never been groped in my life, but I was groped three times

in one week in Benidorm. To get on set I had to walk through the hotel dressed as Tonya in some non-existent

bikini and high heels with blokes gawping at me... or rather groping me "It wasn't nice, but the security people were very good and they started escorting me to and from the set."However, Hannah - who has starred on Broadway and the West End for over 19 years - hasn't prepared herself for the level of fame she will gain from playing such a high-profile role.

Benidorm is Back! last thursday over 7.1m viewers tuned into the first episode of the 6th season of itv´s hit comedy “Benidorm”.

Fans shared their views on the oFFicial Facebook page as well, with most people giving positive Feedback.

“Thought the first show was brilliant! Hoping this series is better than last as I was disappointed with it”said Tracey Maunder.

“Absolutely fantastic” added Sheila Lawrence Was Fitzpatrick. “I was laughing from start to finish.”

“Loved the opening show can’t wait till next week new characters are fabulous,” said Andrew McMahon.

Not everyone was super keen about it, though.

“I love Benidorm but Tim Healey’s character is absolutely stupid and spoils the story line” said Jackie Lawton.

entertainmentThe Drifters were kind enough to invite us along to dinner and tell us about themselves and treat us to a fantastic night of entertainment, we just couldn’t refuse this chance to get an exclusive opportunity to talk with legends of Soul and Motown! The group was formed in 1953 by Clyde McPhatter and Ahmet Ertegun (founder of Atlantic records), they worked under the management of former jazz singer George Treadwel, the original purpose of the band was to serve as a backing group for Billy Ward & the Dominoes. right from the very beginning there was a constant succession of regular line-up changes and spin off groups created by former members.Early recordings included songs such as ‘lucille,’ ‘Money Honey,’ ‘Such a Night’ and ‘Honey love.’ The Drifters’ career was quickly established and they became one of the most popular acts in the charts and on stage. .In 1971, the original members of the Atlantic recording group, The Drifters, were reformed by promoter larry Marshak, larry did not realize that the group were still performing in the UK but with new members Faye Treadwell, wife of George Treadwell. She started legal proceedings against larry Marshak

as he was using “The Drifters” name. larry’s group consisted of Charlie Thomas, Doc Green, Elsbeary Hobbs and Al Banks (formerly of the Turbans) the group were only together for a short period before the untimely death of Al Banks which brought Bobby ruffin into the legacy of The Drifters. The hits kept coming including “There Goes My Baby,

“Dance With Me,” “This Magic Moment,” “I Count the Tears,” and “Save the last Dance for Me,” “Some Kind of Wonderful,” “Up on the roof” and “On Broadway” among others. In 1974 Bobby ruffin along with the other three members were signed to Musicor recordings and did a recording together- “A mid-Summer Night in Harlem” The group toured and recorded together through 1975.The Drifters became a dance-disco outfit for a time during the late ‘70s, focussing on stage presentation and fabulous showmanship and eventually developed their act to cover all eras of their glittering career. Thereafter, the band earned a reputation as one of the finest live acts in the world.Bobby went on to have his own show in las vegas and in 1985 was approached for a Drifters reunion; he was joined with ronnie Canada and larry James ray and went on a small tour including Majorca. Since, they have had a number of different group and solo shows and 28 years

later with help from their promoter thought that it was about time for another reunion and there would be no better place than Benidorm Palace! They were joined by a new member, Edward for 3 fantastic shows over the Christmas period in Benidorm Palace.

The Algar waterfalls form a natural park with an elevated grade of conservation of the ecological richness, and at the same time it has tourism and environment education services.

FortAlesA de BèrniAThe Fortalesa de Bèrnia (Fortress of Bèrnia) was built in 1562 by the royal engineer Giovanni Battista Antonelli. It was a magnificent and clear exponent of the military architecture in the Renaissance epoch. King Philip II of Spain ordered its construction to face the Ottoman incursions on the coast. In 1612, because of its inefficiency and because it was far from the coast, it was demolished by order of Philip III of Spain. At the Fort you can still see the arches,

the fosse, the bastion, the well and the wall remains. The wall measured 100 meters long and 100 meters wide. It has been considered as a Property of Culture Interest since 1997. The explanatory panels show the ancient running and use of the Fort.

The first information about the castle dates from 1322, when Infant Don Pedro was given it by Bernat de Sarrià, Lord of Callosa, who might be the builder. It was successively owned by several Lords of Callosa such as the Moncada and the Bou Family until late 17th century. At this point, it started to get ruined, and it finally disappeared in the early 18th century. Nowadays some remains of the castle wall can be admired by visitors.

FiestasFestes de sAnt JAume. Les Danses de Sant Jaume, also known as La Festa del Fadrí are the oldest fiestas in the festivities of Callosa d’en Sarrià, as well as in the region. The historian Adolf Salvà dates the fiestas in 1819, when is the first written reference. Its origin, like many other celebrations, is pagan: possibly the dances were in honor of some god of the fertility. The festival is in honor of a saint, in this case Saint James. The festivals of Sant Jaume are not limited exclusively to the dances, they are also

a few days of celebration in the streets, like: cucanyes (popular games), games of Calitx (a popular game with coins) of Valencian pilota, loquat, cake tasting, correguda del gall (Rooster race), etc.moors And ChristiAns. As a people with historical roots, since 1860 are held the second weekend in October, the celebrations of “Moors and Christians”, are declared National Tourist Interest since 1985. They are celebrated in honor of the Virgen of injuries. Among the most spectacular acts, are the colorful parades Entrada Mora and Entrada Cristiana old dances preceded by Nanos, which accompany the Virgin during the procession. The dance of the Nanos precedes the parade and represent the pagan festival.

"Its a small world" is a great name for a restaurant and for me I think the name is very important. I went along to meet Paul and Monique who have been operating the restaurant "It's A Small World" since the year 2000. Previously with a restaurant in Holland just outside Amsterdam they came to look for their life in Spain and found it in Albir. At first looking around for business premises in Benidorm before being put off by the high costs of rent and key money, then after being introduced to Albir a small place in comparison but with a bright future at the time. Paul told me "it was full of construction works a number of developments, appartments and villas the building boom was inviting to us and the prospect of having lots of residents and tourists coming to the area.""Then we opened with the idea of offering the same business model we had in Holland, you can come for steaks, salads or just for pancakes and a beer.""Something for everyone has always been our aim".recently refurbished the luxurious surroundings are not only comfortable but also very interesting with a great concept of design. The local was extended into next door within 6 months of their opening 13 years ago and now the reform is has made it even more cosy and and superb restaurant.Paul told me that the open kitchen was the idea from the start so the customers can see the fresh produce being used and the chefs at work, also the chefs can interact with the other staff and clients."Each year we re investment into making the restaurant better, the outside terrace can be enjoyed all year around seating area for 70 guests".My dining experience included homemade tomato soup followed with a tender fillet steak served with salad and sauté potatoes. The wine selection unlike other restaurants has a wider range from other counties. House wine and the Small World Special rioja cost only 12.50€ Also there are wines from Chile - South Africa California also from 12.50€ Other favourites include El Coto - Torres Sangre de Toro. I chose a favourite red of mine called Enrique Mendoza Cabernet Sauvigon. There is a kids menu that offers a selection of yummy favourites, chicken nuggets, pastas, sausage and

kids burgers. All you need to satisfy the young ones together with a Kids cornerwith a Tv showing cartons. The main meals on the menu include a selection of fish dishes, Plaice baked in butter, Salmon, Scampi, Sole and Tilapia. Many other favorites such as the rack of lamb with honey wine sauce, Dancing Duck with mango peach sauce, Surf and Turf, Steaks, Pork Tenderloin and Chicken Saté with homemade Peanut Butter Sauce with a little spice. Mouth watering food for all tastes. lovley Big Salads are a variety of four tasty dishes served on a huge plate. To finalise a simply superb dining experience there are nine scrummy desserts including Crepes Apple Cake Cheesecake Chocolate Mousse.

“Christmas spanish style”Reviewed 6 January 2014 NEWWe always have a meal at Pneils when we are in Benidorm and yesterday was one of the best not only was it a Spanish Christmas celerbation the restaurant was all decorated. We had crackers just like we do on Christmas day .We were looked after very well by all the staff and Patrick the owner came out to say hello . The food was wonderful .Pneils is a must but book so not to be disappointed

“Great New Year´s Eve”Reviewed 5 January 2014 NEWNever been to Paneils before but we were given a very warm welcome, having booked this weeks in advance for a party of 5. Staff were very friendly and the Restaurant was decorated beautifully. Patrick, the owner and chef came out and introduced himself later in the evening, and we saw the new year in with the staff and a few other customers. It is always a risk when you book somewhere you have never been before, especially on New Year´s Eve, but all of our party were very pleased with our evening. Thank you Patrick and all your staff. Will definately be back to visit.

“Fabulous Food”Reviewed 5 January 2014 NEW9 of us ate here last week. Food was delicious and the choice was huge. Set meals were very reasonable. Staff were very friendly. Loved this restaurant and would certainly return.

“New year dining”Reviewed 3 January 2014 NEWPaneil’s restaurant is a family favourite and was our first choice for dinner on New Years Eve. Tables decorated for a fun celebration, warm welcome with a Buck’s Fizz and canapés. Excellent menu - chosen on booking, good wine and good service. Atmosphere was excellent made even more so with a “goody bag” of accessories ranging from party hats to silly ties. Would recommend this restaurant in the old town for dining on any occasion

“Fab staff, pub and grub!”Reviewed 31 December 2013Visited here almost daily during our 2 week stay in Benidorm. Staff are so welcoming and friendly foods great and they even put the darts on for us to watch when we came in. My 4 yo son wouldnt go past without wanting a game of pool. Relaxed atmosphere will definitely return again next time we’re in BenidormThanks for the hospitality and see you again soon

“Friendly helpful staff”Reviewed 5 October 2013We visited The Castle on numerous occasions including on our first day. They do plenty of English food and are reasonably priced. The staff are all very friendly, and even ordered me some DVDs I requested which came the following day! Would recommend!

“Friendly, inviting and great value”Reviewed 14 May 2013Ate here 4 or 5 times in a 10 day holiday, food was fantastic value, and perfectly cooked and big portions, i prefer burgers so got the 8oz bacon cheese burger with a side of onion rings all for around €8, try the chilli sauce which is delicious and fairly hot, all in all fantastic environment.

“Perfect as a base for groups. Friendly, nice food, good value.”Reviewed 14 May 2013I’ll say upfront that I know Derek and Tracey through my best university friend. So I was there through a recommendation. The food is good basic fare, from bacon/egg butties and fry-ups, to baked potatoes, pizzas, meat & veg dishes, toasties, salads and healthy options. Try the fillet steak with your choice of vegetables/salad/fries. Good and tasty. Tracey and Derek are well known and liked in Denidorm and the UK, so you’ll see a spread of folk in, from stag parties needing a convenient base, to couples and singles having a drink or enjoying a meal and some Brit tv shows. The Castle Inn is decorated well, nice and clean, with proper loos and seating. Good for even groups of 8 or 10, although you might need to move tables together.

“Superb”Reviewed 29 September 2013The ribs are to die for, fall off the bone, melt in your mouth. Potatoes were some of the best I’ve tasted as was the gambos starter. The sauce, loved it that much I took some away with me. The set menu is also great value for money and tastes great.

“Nice restaurant and good food”Reviewed 10 September 2013We were a large party, 15 people, and they catered for us very well. The food was very good, the ribs, duck & steak particularly so. We returned a second time on our last evening, a Thursday evening, this time the service was not quite as good but in fairness they were very busy and didn’t seem to have many staff on. The food however remained just as good.+ç

“Absolute brilliant”This is probably the best restaurant in albir I just love the ribeye steak with the gambas they are the best !

“Do believe the reviews it is that good”i’m a skeptic by nature... But the steak I just ate was one of the best I’ve had and I have had steak all over the USA Texas Miami Washington etc and this was a goon one. My wife’s hake was excellent as well. Good starter and friendly service lovely location.

“Relaxed ambiance, beside sea.”Reviewed June 3, 2013We dined here, a family of 2 adults & 2 children. The lady working here is lovely, very soft spoken, friendly but not false or ott, atmosphere is relaxed, nice chilled music. Our bill was a bit pricy at €80 (for albir!) but we had 2 starters, 4 mains incl steaks, drinks incl wine & beer and desserts. We would pay more at home but after paying on average of €40 for dinners, this was expensive! We went here after reading a previous review about the steaks being the best. Have to say ive ate nicer. We ordered rib eyes but they were very fatty, but tasted great otherwise. Its a nice location, just up the hill off the beach front. Would recommend for a couple to eat here.

come spring/summer 2014 – and I truly believe it’s going to develop into a HUGE hair trend.

WHat IS tHIS HaIrcut & HoW WIll It be Worn? With the rise of the quiff and traditional, masculine hairstyles, the majority of men have been wearing their hair to the side or pushed back for a few years now. However, soon it’s going to be all about the fringe.I first noticed this change in approach during the Topman Design collection for the current AW13 season. This particular showcase can be viewed as the birth or beginning of this new cut, complete with a shorter fringe – which gets longer as we move into spring/summer 2014.The hair is kept heavier and longer towards the front, and will need to be cut into in order to take some of

the weight out.HoW to StYleThis is the exciting bit as this cut can be worn in so many ways and is ultra versatile. It can also be styled differently depending on your mood/the occasion and the way in which it’s styled will alter as the length gets longer.I would always suggest using a hair dryer to dry the hair – this will ensure your styling products perform properly.Try applying a small amount of smoothing cream to freshly washed hair and then blow dry forward with a small round brush to get a sleeker and longer finish through the front.

Optician’s tOp tip:ski eye careJorge martinez de lizarduy araico, Store director from Specsavers opticas benidorm

As we enter into the ski season, it’s important that our eyes are properly protected. your eyes are

more at risk when skiing because the atmosphere on the slopes is very clear and the reflection of sunlight on the slopes is very strong. These two factors combine to be potentially damaging to the eyes and could lead to long term effects.Uv rays can be very damaging to the eyes. The UvB rays can irritate the surface of the eye, causing a painful form of sunburn of the eye (called photokeratitis). you may not even be aware whilst out in the snow, as the effects can take 6-12 hours to develop. long-term exposure to UvB can cause cataracts and even ocular tumours. To protect your eyes all you need is good sunglasses, but make sure you choose the right ones. Always read the label carefully, choose the maximum protection factor available and consider larger and wraparound versions to completely shield the eye. Specsavers Opticas in Benidorm is currently offering free eye tests. To make an appointment visit www.specsavers.es or by calling your local store on 965 859 577.

The saga around the settlement process of supermarket la Nucia has seemed to reach its final chapter. the supermarket was founded by brothers Enrique and Juan Bautista Mendoza just over 33 years ago and was one of the first and only places where foreign residents could buy products they missed from home. According to one of the experts appointed to direct the liquidation process the auction was the only way left as there was still no agreement between Enrique and Juan over the supermarkets future. The staff who are owed more wages, say they feel "relieved” by the decision made by the liquidators because if the company had been sold for parts the funds would be drastically lower and would have jeopardized the business and therefore the jobs of its 34 current employees. The supermarket will go under the hammer on January 23 at the notary Antonio ripoll Soler, located on Calle Pintor lorenzo Casanova in Alicante. The reserve price is 2,213,539 Euros

It’s all you need for a great read.Issue 14 / 14 January 2014

HoroscopeYour weeklyYour social skills are smooth as silk early this week, leading to a pile of little victories. But as midweek approaches, your best bet is

to slow down and be as clear as possible with friends and family. Thurs-day and Friday are perfect for getting things done around the house - you may decide to initiate a repair or clean-up project that’s been simmering for months. The weekend is lots of fun for you and your people, as long as you’re all willing to follow your impulses and see what happens next!

AriesListen carefully to what your friends are trying to tell you this week. Someone who’s remarkably stable will advise you to try

something slightly risky - and they’ll be dead right. Tuesday and Wednes-day are filled with exciting energy, and you could find yourself moving from party to party, or friend to friend, in a chain of good times. Later in the week, you’ll need to hunker down and try to just go with the flow in spite of the fact that you may find it more difficult than usual to adapt to changing circumstances. The weekend is much sweeter.

gemini

Your contributions at work or at home on Monday reflect your unique nature, and should surprise more than a few people - in a

good way, of course! The middle of the week could be a bit more trou-bling, though, as every project seems to splinter into a million different to-do list items, each of which requires a different approach. Delegation is the key! Thursday and Friday bring a welcome respite from that mad-ness, and you may find it considerably easier to work on more meaning-ful projects and plans. The weekend is great for planning ahead.

CAnCerMonday could find you trapped in the system, whether it’s at work, school or in a bureaucratic briar patch. Be wary and step lightly!

Spend extra time with friends midweek — their energy should give you just what you need to recover from your temporary slowdown. On Thurs-day and Friday, it’s vital to keep your cool, even while family members or coworkers are blowing up over nothing. Your calm can set a positive example and should get you ready for the weekend, when an influx of great energy is set to push you towards a victory of some kind!

leoStart the week with at least a little deep thought — your intellec-tual energy is powerful, and it’d be a shame to let it go to waste!

Your mental state starts to speed up on Tuesday, and you ought to be able to think on your feet amidst even the craziest circumstances at work or with friends. Later in the week, you’ll want to use your legendary organizational skills to bring your people together in some new way. A party or outing would be perfect. Your altruistic side is brought out in a big way this weekend, so get out there and volunteer or just help out around the house.

virgo

The week starts with a bang - you may find yourself laughing all day long on Monday thanks to a combination of wacky antics and

your own good energy. Midweek brings a golden opportunity to talk about your feelings with someone close - or someone you want to bring closer. Open up and don’t hold back on anything. Thursday and Friday are great for taking care of home business, whether it’s cleaning the tub or playing with the kids. Get ready for a big brouhaha over the weekend; the social energy practically guarantees some power struggles.

tAurus

Things aren’t quite as they seem on Monday, so take a second — and a third — look before making up your mind about what to do next. Your good energy midweek drives you to try new things:

Maybe a restaurant, maybe a new kind of music or just about anything else, as long as it can be shared. Try to slow down on Thursday and Friday and appreciate the small details of your life. Things could get frenetic, but you’ve got a good home base. Your friends are especially important this weekend, so check in with each one.

liBrAWhile you may think of yourself as a big-picture person, Monday brings details that simply cannot be ignored. Force yourself to deal

with them quickly so you can get on with the rest of the week — you’ll need to spend some time pondering the big issues in a few days. Watch out for dates or other one-on-one interactions on Thursday or Friday, as you may be a bit grumpy and less able to present your good side. Fore-warned is forearmed! The travel bug should bite you hard this weekend, and it’s a good time to make plans to get out of town.

sAgittArius

Monday is strangely good for shopping - you might score an unexpected deal just by browsing or window shopping. Make sure you can afford it, even with the discount! The middle part of the

week brings people out in a way that makes communication much sim-pler and more straightforward - just the way you like it. Things may start to get weird on Thursday, though, and you should try to thicken your skin in preparation for the odd comments that are sure to come your way. Expect quite a few requests for time, energy and money this weekend!

CAPriCornIf you don’t hear from your family on Monday, you may want to check in with them yourself. It’s nothing urgent, but the timing is

right. If you’re looking for love, or wondering if your current relationship is right for you, expect things to sizzle in a big way midweek. You may need a few days to recover, but big business comes your way on Thurs-day or Friday and you’ll need serious focus to deal with it properly. Take a deep breath and get on with it! Over the weekend, show that you’re independent from someone who’s been getting cocky.

AQuAriusMonday brings a flurry of emails, IMs, phone calls and other communications your way, though you shouldn’t have to deal with

all of them right away. This could make for a busy week as you play catch-up, but for the most part you’re happy to be so engaged with peo-ple. Thursday and Friday bring a strong current of romance into your life, either through someone new or a reinvigoration of old feelings. Enjoy the buzz! The weekend brings a few too many dramas courtesy of friends and family - try to let them resolve on their own.

PisCes

The first half of the week requires greater care than usual — you may need to let go of some people or notions that are holding you

back. As long as you think it all through, you should find it pretty easy to get along on your own, and may be surprised by who decides to stick around. Thursday and Friday bring a surge of powerful emotional energy that should put you at peace with your choices, and you may decide to move on even further. Watch out for new challenges this weekend — though you’re always up for a test of your abilities, you may need to draw on new resources.

EAr WAxAlthough ear wax can be a nuisance for some people, it is very necessary for keeping the ear canal healthy.Ear wax, or cerumen which is the medical term, traps dust and dirt particles that enter the ear canal. It prevents the ear canal becoming dry and itchy, helps to prevent infection and also repels water.Under normal circumstances, the ear wax, along with all the accumulated debris, dries out and eventually falls out of the ear.Not everybody produces the same amount of ear wax and for some people the wax can build up causing discomfort and/or a degree of hearing loss. There are several reasons for this including:

- Narrowing of the ear canal- Production of dry wax (more common in older people)- Overproduction of wax as a result of blockage or damage within the ear

Many people attempt to remove ear wax using cotton buds but this only serves to make the situation worse! A little ear wax may come off on the end of the bud but the main bulk of the wax plug is simply pushed further into the ear canal. The skin of the canal is very sensitive and cotton buds can scratch and damage the skin causing subsequent infection. In addition to this people can rupture the ear drum whilst attempting to remove wax in this way.

remember the old adage of the ENT surgeon:‘Never put anything smaler than your elbow in your ear!’There are many products available over the counter, such as drops or sprays for removing wax but these can cause pain, irritation and eczema. It is far better to use ordinary olive oil which is gentle, effective at softening ear wax, cheap and readily available in most kitchen cupboards! In some cases it is all that is needed and the ear wax will come out after a couple of weeks of warm olive oil 3 times a day. If not the wax will be softened enough to make removal by irrigation (similar to syringing) or suction quick and easy.In an ideal world we would never have to intervene and remove ear wax but unfortunately it is sometimes the only option and your family and neighbours will be so grateful that your Tv has been turned back down to a normal volume!

Mesut Ozil lands third dfb aWardArsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has been named Germany's national Player of the year following a fans' poll conducted by the German Football Federation. The award is the 25-year-old's third in succession as he finished with more than 30 per cent of the votes, ahead of Bayern Munich pair Phillip lahm and Thomas Muller.

Manchester united chase chelsea star Juan MataChelsea have flatly rejected the idea of selling Mata to a Premier league rival. But sources in Spain insist United have already spoken to Mata’s agent and could tempt Chelsea’s resolve with a £27m offer. But any move for Mata looks doomed unless a deal could be agreed to send Wayne rooney in the opposite direction. And that is something boss David Moyes has so far refused to contemplate, despite rooney having struggled with injuries this season. The striker is currently in Egypt on a warm-weather break to recuperate from his ongoing groin problem in an attempt to get him fit for the match against Chelsea this weekend. Mata, meanwhile, wants out of Chelsea as he fears for his World Cup place because of his lack of playing time. His representatives have also been in contact with real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. It is thought Chelsea would prefer to sell to Atletico - but the ultimate decision rests with Mata.Moyes was in Italy to watch Juventus and Chile star vidal in action against Cagliari. The 26-year-old recently signed a new contract to stay at Juve until 2017, but that has not put United off.The Premier league champions are also close to agreeing a loan deal for real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao.
