Outreach to Underserved Populations
The services provided by the Tri-State BBB are of benefit to everyone, but special effort is needed to insure that members of populations that are often targets of fraud or unaware that these services are available. The BBB Foundation will work to increase awareness and use of the BBB’s free public services through targeted information dissemination. Where special needs are identified, special programs will be developed to aid populations at risk such as seniors and young people.
Charity Review The Foundation assists the
public in making wise charitable giving decisions by providing reports on local charities based on the BBB Wise Giving 20 Standards for Charity Accountability. These standards cover programming, fiscal spending, fund raising and governance practices of the charity.
In January 2007, the BBB announced a new scholarship competition program to honor high school students in the area who personify ethics through leadership, community service, overall personal integrity and academic history.
All high schools within the BBB 18 county service area are invited to submit applications. These are judged by an independent panel of volunteers.
The BBB also offers in-school presentations. “In Pursuit of Ethics” is an interactive video introducing scenarios that require students to problem solve in order to make ethical decisions.
