Our High Efficiency Nebulizer is the top-rated glass microconcentric nebulizer. Our Direct Injection High Efficiency Nebulizer is unmatched.

Since 2003, we have offered all of our nebulizers in quartz as well as borosilicate glass, for more demanding low-background measurements. The new high-purity quartz, TQH series, became available in 2005. Designed primarily for ICPMS use, these will provide the lowest possible elemental background as demanded by the semiconductor industry.

Meinhard Glass Products wants to be your source for total sample introduction solutions. We are pleased to offer nebulizers in Teflon PFA and polypropylene from Elemental Scientific. These microconcentric nebulizers are especially useful for small-volume samples and highly-corrosive solutions like HF. The Noordermeer v-groove nebulizer can handle suspended solids of 10% or more without clogging. The Burgener MiraMist® in Teflon extends that capability to highly-corrosive solutions.

Meinhard Glass Products manufactures all kinds of spray chambers in glass and quartz: Scott double-pass, conical, cyclonic, double-pass cyclonic. We can fit your instrument or custom manufacture for your needs. We also offer Scott double-pass spray chambers from ESI in Teflon PFA for ultra-high-purity and corrosion resistance. ESI’s cyclonic spray chambers in polypropylene are just the thing for ICP analysis of HF solutions.

The High Efficiency Nebulizer (HEN)

The HEN is especially well-suited for microsample analysis in µHPLC, CE, CIC and FIA. It exhibits detection limits comparable to those of a standard MEINHARD® nebulizer while consuming 25 times less sample (see table). It is designed to operate at 1 L/min argon and ~170 psig. The HEN can function reliability at liquid flow rates from 10 to 1200 µL/min. The HEN fits standard spray chambers. The high-pressure fitting (Fit Kit #2) is recommended for secure attachment of the nebulizer gas tubing. Chromatography unions (Fit Kits #1 and #1-Micro) are available to provide a minimum dead volume, leak-free connection to 1/16” column tubing. To order, request model HEN-170-AA.

The Direct Injection High Efficiency Nebulizer (DIHEN) The DIHEN is a pneumatic micronebulizer designed to introduce micro-volumes of sample solutions directly into an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) or inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS). The DIHEN-ICPMS approach is particularly well suited for ultratrace isotope and elemental analysis of sample types that are of limited volume, toxic, or expensive, or that exhibit speciation interferences. The DIHEN may be used as a micronebulizer in other atomic spectroscopy techniques such as flame photometry. Two accessories well-suited for the DIHEN: The chromatography union, Fit Kit #1-Micro, is an easy and convenient method to reduce dead volume in the sample introduction system to less than 10 µL. The high pressure reducing union, Fit Kit #2, allows easy connection of a high-pressure Argon line to the sidearm of the DIHEN. Advantages of the DIHEN: The advantages of the DIHEN are its ability to introduce microvolumes into plasmas at 1-100 µL/min, with relatively small aerosol droplet size, and with nearly 100% use of the sample. It is also highly suitable for the analysis of volatile solvents, avoiding interferences which occur in conventional spray chambers. NEBULIZER OPERATION: The MEINHARD® nebulizer will aspirate liquid sample naturally when the rated flow of gas is directed into the sidearm and a sample feed is connected to the liquid input. All models may be operated with externally pumped analyte provided the sample flow is not significantly below the natural aspiration rate. Calibrations reflect a standard operational reference and are not intended as limitations on conditions of use, which can vary widely. Operation can be optimized for specific instruments.

PC3 Peltier Cooler for Cyclonic Spray Chambers

The PC3 is a small, simple, and robust cooler for ICP-MS and ICP-0ES cyclonic spray chambers. The PC3 cools the outer walls of the cyclonic spray chamber to a constant temperature enhancing long-term signal stability, reducing polyatomic ion interferences such as oxides and reducing solvent loading especially when volatile organic solvents are analyzed. The cyclonic spray chamber offers the advantages of low memory effects, fast rinse-out and, in many cases, higher sample transport efficiency.

Apex High-Sensitivity System Elemental Scientific has designed the new Apex family of high sensitivity and low backgroundsample introduction systems to increase signal intensity while often reducing relativebackground contamination for ICPMS and ICPAES analyses. The Apex improves sensitivityprimarily by increasing both sample transport efficiency and the quality of aerosol introduced tothe ICP instrument. The Apex controls background contamination by employing high-purity,inert, and o-ring-free wetted surfaces. When combined with a self-aspirating MicroFlow PFAnebulizer even aggressive and concentrated chemicals may be analyzed at very high sensitivityand very low contamination.

Apex Q High-Sensitivity System

The Apex may be used with nebulizers operating over a wide range of sample flow rates from 20µL/min to over 1 mL/min. The nebulizers may be either self-aspirated or pumped.

Operation

Liquid samples are nebulized into a patent-pending spray chamber and desolvation system wherethe sample aerosol is efficiently conditioned to produce an intense and uniform aerosol that istransported to the ICP.

When compared to conventional ICPMS sample introduction systems the Apex will typicallyincrease ICPMS sensitivity by approximately 10x when using a 300 µL/min nebulizer and byapproximately 3x when using a 100 µL/min nebulizer. These improvement factors are in spite ofthe lower Apex sample consumption rate. ICP-MS detection limits are in the sub-ppt to sub-ppqrange for most elements.

ICPAES detection limits can be improved by up to a factor of 6-10 when operating at 1 ml/minusing a MicroFlow PFA or PolyPro ST nebulizer together with the Apex. Alternatively, thecombination of a low flow nebulizer with the Apex maintains ICP-AES sensitivity while reducingsample consumption by a factor of 5 to 10, improving ICP-AES determinations when the volumeof sample is limited.

Models

The Apex sample introduction system is available in four basic models: Apex E, Apex Q, ApexHF, and Apex IR.

The Apex E has been primarily designed as an inlet system for ICP-AES. the Apex E is very simpleto use with only 1 switch operation and has a Pyrex flow path to produce a relatively low cost,high sensitivity inlet system. The Apex E is supplied with either PolyPro-ST of PFA-ST nebulizers.

The Apex Q has an o-ring-free quartz flow path for high sensitivity and low background forsamples that do not contain hydrofluoric acid. The Apex Q gives the fastest rinse-out of any highsensitivity ICP introduction system. Two MicroFlow PFA nebulizers are included with the Apex Q.

The Apex HF uses a high-purity PFA Teflon flow path to provide resistance to hydrofluoric acid.The Apex HF is recommended for many geochemistry and semiconductor applications wheresamples containing HF are analyzed. Two MicroFlow PFA nebulizers are included with the ApexHF.

The Apex IR has a quartz flow path and includes the ApexAreo membrane desolvation modulefor reducing ICPMS spectral interferences that arise from solvent-derived polyatomic ions. ThreeMicroFlow PFA nebulizers: 50, 100, and 300 µL/min are included with the Apex IR.

Performance Data

The patent pending design of the sample flow path ensures minimal memory effects with rinse-outs comparable if not faster than simple cyclonic systems, even with initial higher count rates.

Membrane Desolvation

An optional ACM Nafion fluoropolymer membrane desolvation module is available to removeresidual solvent vapor in the sample aerosol stream. The ACM membrane module may be usedwith any of the ICP-MS Apex models. The membrane module is easily demounted for the Apexexit port. This feature allows the Apex to be used either with or without a membrane to best suitspecific analytical applications.

Perimax 12

General Information

1. Drive Unit Identical drive units are employed in the Perimax 12 and Perimax 16 pumps, which differ only in the pump head. A stepper motor ensures that liquid transport is highly reproducible and constant.

2. Remote control Speed and direction can be externally controlled (analog: 0-5 Vdc or digital: 26-2100 Hz) through a rear-mounted DB-9 plug.

channels 6. Operation The Perimax 12 peristaltic pump is very simple to operate. The pump tubing is placed around the pump head and secured at each end in a tubing retainer. Pressure against the tubing in each channel is adjusted with a fine screw on the pressure bracket. Function keys are provided for ON/OFF and RIGHT/LEFT rotation. The rotational speed of the pump head is continuously adjustable via a 10-turn potentiometer. The digital indicator (0-999) ensures a reproducible speed setting and, therefore, a precise flow rate. A high-speed key provides for brief operation at maximum speed, for example, to obtain fast wash-out of the tubing when changing to another liquid.

Perimax 16 Antipuls Pump Head The 16-roller pump head consists of two half-channels of 8 rollers each in which the rollers are arranged with a 180-degree phase displacement. A piece of pump tubing is inserted into each half-channel; downstream from the pump head, a Y-fitting combines the half-channels. Consequently, a peak in one half-channel is cancelled by a trough in the parallel half-channel so that the combined flow produced is completely pulsation-free. The Perimax 16/2 can be operated with 2 pulse-free channels, 4 pulsating channels, or one pulse-free and 2 pulsating channels. Also available are the Perimax 16/1 and Perimax 16/3.

Sets of pre-assembled pump tubing are available in a variety of sizes for the Perimax 16 Antipuls. A Y-fitting splits the flow between two half-channels; a second Y-fitting recombines the flows downstream.

The first non-pulsing

Peristaltic Pump Perimax 16 - Antipuls

Pump head This pump head has two groups of eight rollers, with the groups offset from each other. The incoming flow is split between two pieces of peristaltic pump tubing, one running over each of the roller groups, then recombined downstream from the head. The wave peak in one tube coincides with the wave trough in the other tube so that peaks and troughs cancel each other. The resulting flow is therefore completely free from pulsations. The roller head has 16 rollers and provides four half channels of 8 rollers each, with two phase-displaced tubes being combined. The 16/4 pump can then be operated either with 2 pulse-free channels or with 4 slightly pulsing channels.

Laminar FLOW BOX Basic Portable Cleanroom Technology Growing product quality and reliability requirements are making it increasingly necessary to manufacture or process products in particle-free conditions these days. Cleanroom technology has come to play an important role in practically all high-tech sectors, including chemical production, biotechnology, genetic engineering, microelectronics, the optical industry, precision engineering and the food, filling and packaging industries. For this reason, cleanrooms have become standard in many branches of production, but entail high costs in terms of installation and operation. In developing the Laminar FLOW BOX Basic, Spetec® made it its goal to produce a simple and inexpensive solution for virtually particle-free workspaces. The result of our efforts, the Laminar FLOW BOX Basic, is a portable cleanroom that can be manufactured according to individual size requirements. No matter whether you wish to protect analysis samples from contamination or need dust-free conditions for other applications, the Spetec® Laminar FLOW BOX Basic represents a cleanroom workstation that can be adapted to your specific wishes and requirements. Aerosol-to-LiquidParticle eXtractionSystem (ALPXS)*

A new device developed at Savannah River National Laboratory collects and concentratesairborne metals into a liquid sample for onsite/real time or laboratory analysis. Useful as a tool for coupling ICPMS/OES to airborne particle analysis, the ALPXS can offer near real time sampling and analysis of welding fumes, workplace exposure measurement, or environmental metal particle monitoring. The device is portable and consumes only 12 watts of power.

Uses wet electrostatic precipitation to separate particles from air.Collection efficiency is greater than 90% for particles less than 0.3 micrometers in diameter.Particles in air are drawn through the ionization chamber at a flow rate of between 200 and 300 LPM.Ionization chamber charges particles at 8000 volts.Particles are collected in a liquid reservoir with a volume of 10 - 200 mL.Liquid continuously washes collection electrode to gather particles during the measurement.

EVAPOCLEAN

Developed at the Institute of Physics of the Earth (Paris, France), the primary function of the EVAPOCLEAN is to preconcentrate various chemical solutions under controlled conditions. Evaporation (at temperatures up to 250 °C) and immediate condensation occur in a closed system that does not exchange with laboratory air.

The EVAPOCLEAN device allows the analyst to process organic solvents, aqueous solutions, acidic and alkaline solutions, and concentrated solutions which derive from the dissolution of various materials with aggressive reagents (HF, HCl, HBr, HNO3, HClO4, H2S04, H2O2, NH4OH). Applications include raw materials (rocks, minerals, ores, natural waters), industrial and advanced materials (cements, metals, glass products, ceramics), as well as basic chemicals for industry, highly pure chemicals, and liquid and solid wastes.

EVAPOCLEAN devices are also designed for trace and ultra-trace element analyses which require a cleanroom environment. Evaporation-condensation cells are made with non-contaminating, corrosion-resistant, high-purity grade fluoropolymer materials, machined under controlled conditions. They do not emit dust particles.

Depending on the EVAPOCLEAN model that is chosen, 1 to 12 samples can be processed simultaneously or independently, without risk of cross-contamination. It is possible to evaporate to dryness or to leave a small residual volume of the evaporating liquid, to concentrate solutions, and to purify liquid reagents.

The top face of EVAPOCLEAN devices is equipped with ports to allow acid digestion of samples and cleaning of jars by reflux of acid vapor or water vapor in the closed container.

The basic EVAPOCLEAN incorporates a simple controller which raises the block temperature to a specified temperature and holds the temperature for a specified period, after which the EVAPOCLEAN will cool to ambient temperature. An optional programmable controller stores up to four programs of sixteen segments each.

EASYDIGESTANALAB has designed EASYDIGEST devices for wet digestion or wet extraction of samples using mineral acids. These acid-resistant graphite-filled-PFA monoblocks include up to 48 positions and provide controlled and homogeneous heat to the sample batch. are readily available in the physical forms necessary to supply the calibration needs of your laboratory. CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE SINCE 1984 Analytical Reference Materials International’s (ARMI) primary objective has been to develop and implement an industry acceptable system for the characterization and certification of metal alloy materials. The resulting Certified Reference Materi-als (CRMs) afford the scientific community an unequivocal level of confidence. Equally important is our desire that the final certified results be traceable to national and/or international certifying bodies with emphasis on our own National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST). In the beginning, the Company purchased metal certified materials from recognized certifying bodies and produced what is now known the world over as the “thin X-ray disk” specific to X-ray analytical procedures. Because of the success of the thin X-ray disks during the late 1980s, demand dramatically increased for more of a variety of products to address the needs of all analytical techniques. The Company reached a point where it became obvious that its dependence on others to supply materials and data limited its ability to meet the market’s existing and future needs. Therefore, in 1989 the ARMI Inter-Laboratory Analysis Program (ILAP) was formed. The ILAP originated and remains today as the only totally voluntary organization in private industry dedicated to the production and development of quality CRMs. ILAP is the classic example of industry working together for a common goal. The membership now consists of experts from over 70 laboratories represent-ing major metal producers, commercial laboratories, aerospace, and general industry from the US, Canada and other countries in Europe and Asia. The group is com-prised of wonderfully dedicated people who are experts in the analysis of metals and metal alloys. Today ARMI’s inventory consists of more than 600 different CRMs that include car-bon steels, low alloy steels, stainless and high temperature steels, nickel, cobalt, cop-per, aluminum, titanium, and hydrocarbon based materials. ARMI’s CRMs (IARMs) can be found in the application laboratories of most of the major instrument manufac-turers around the world. Finally, one of the major factors contributing to the success of the ARMI/ILAP pro-gram over the years has been “you”, the analytical consumer. You have voiced your opinions as well as your needs.
