INTRODUCTION

KRYPTON CHEMICALSSYSTEMS ANDSOLUTIONSKRYPTON CHEMICAL provides tospecifiers, architects, builders andproperty owners a high level oftechnical assistance, guidance andsupport in all phases of Projects, through to completion. KRYPTONsystems are well known all over theWorld for their remarkable successstories in waterproofing. Supported bylong term guarantees, as well as byan extended network of ApprovedInstallers, these systems offer a highlevel of security in all projects.

VERSATILE SOLUTIONSIN WATERPROOFINGKRYPTON CHEMICAL offers a widerange of products in liquid form, whichdo not require flame or torches in theirapplication, can be reinforced whereappropriate, and are suitable forproviding solutions in the mostdemanding situations. All of thesesystems are based on the mostadvanced polymer chemistry, andprovide excellent technicalperformance with exceptional integrityin waterproofing.

A RAYSTON SYSTEMFOR EVERY NEED• Roof Refurbishment: Oursystems are ideal for application onalmost any substrate. These productsoften avoid the need to removewaterproofing elements usedpreviously. IMPERMAX membranesprovide a custom made liner to thearea treated, forming a “skin”, whichis totally adhered to it.

• New roofs: The great majority ofroofs are treated with bitumen or otherlow technology systems. Theseproducts may offer a quick andeconomic solution, but also tend tofail prematurely. For modern flat orinverted roofs which are often complexin design and include vents / airconditioning units etc. KRYPTONroofing systems offer an economiclong term solution. This is of evengreater benefit where there is hightraffic volume or the roof has asecondary use - car park or roof gardenfor example-.

Page 5: Construction systems based on liquid waterproofing membranes

COMPARISONWITH TRADITIONALMATERIALS

Even though liquid waterproofingsystems have been in the marketfor the last 30 years, they are stillconsidered “new” technologyproducts, especially if comparedwith products based onthermoplastic sheets or bitumen.

Laying traditional systems normallyrequires:

• Gas burning torches to meltasphalt.

• Handling liquid asphalt attemperatures above 150ºC.

• Welding by use of hot air or gasburning torches.

Temperatures reached by suchsystems may well exceed 150 ºC,or in the case of welding by hot air,may reach beyond 1000 ºC.

Such works normally imply highinsurance costs, and Health andSafety risk hazards. In the U.K., itis demanded that companieshandling such systems employsevere safety measures during andafter the execution of projects, asin many cases, treated roof areasmay even ignite a few hours aftercompletion of work.

For this reason, in North Europeancountries bitumen based systemsare being progressively abandonedand replaced by liquid cold appliedsystems.

For the architect, owner, builder orcontractor, Krypton Chemicalsystems provide a high degree ofsecurity, and clear benefits in termsof health and safety at work.

IMPERMAX waterproofingmembrane has obtained a CLASSBROOF(t1) classification, accordingto EEC regulation BS EN 13501-5:2005, which relates to differentmaterials behaviour when exposedto external fire.

Thanks to the total absence of jointsand overlaps, critical points oftraditional waterproofing solutionsare totally eliminated, providing awaterproofing solution which iscontinuous and homogeneous, protects real estate assets in thelong term, and is easily adapted toany kind of construction.

SYSTEMS SELECTOR

Please use the table attached, to select the systemthat best fits your project requirements.

In the following pages, you will find a detailedoverview of each system, including all the differentcomponents that make it, an explanation of every

step to follow in laying these systems, and themain advantages gained from specifying these

systems.

It has to be made clear that all of these systemscome from a main / base IMPERMAX system, approved for use in the EEC according to ETA

nº 06/0263. Impermax has many different uses, the following system selector outlines application

methods and ancilliary products to be used toachieve the optimum result.

TREATMENT OF CRITICALSPOTS AND DETAILS

See IMPERMAX D prescription, forevery different project.

FINISH

IMPERMAX PARK System implies atreatment of the previouslywaterproofed area with the followingelements:

a. Laying a protection (protective)flexible floor made of a 2 componentsolvent free Polyurethane resinPAVIFLEX. Typical thickness is 2 mm(2,6Kg/m2).

b. Extension of a bonding layer of300 g/m2 of resin COLODUR 60.

c. Saturating this bonding layer withsand / quartz granules in size 0,4 -0,9 mm (or bigger, depending on theanti-skid effect desired).

d. Removal of the free / non adheredgranules.

e. Final sealing / top coat with resinCOLODUR 60 in the desired RALcolours (300 g/m2).

ADVANTAGES

The use of IMPERMAX PARK systemprovides the following advantages:

1. Provides a totally continuousmembrane, without joints andoverlaps.

2. Totally adhered system. It does notallow water to flow between layers.

3. Elastic membrane. Bridges overfissures in substrate and resistsfatigue movement (according to EOTATR-nº 8).

4. Provides a high resistance to vehicletraffic and to puncture, so it actuallybecomes the ideal system for car parkroofing decks.

5. Provides and anti-skid, aestheticflooring system that can be easilymaintained and repaired.

WATERPROOFING /TREATMENT

GENERAL ASPECTS:

1. In general, for system IMPERMAXD (treatment of critical points) it isalways advisable to reinforce themembrane using GEOMAXreinforcement textile.

2. Geomax geotextile must be usedwhere vertical faces encounterhorizontal faces and to dress sharpangles vertical or sloping sections willrequire thixotropic agent added to theImpermax.

3. The main objective is to alwaysensure total continuity and integrityof the membrane, helping to bypassobstacles and limitations in thewaterproofing area. It is important toalways observe the precautions asexplained in the INSTALLATIONMANUAL.

In each of the most common cases,it is advised to adopt the treatmentdescribed below.

SYSTEM 4IMPERMAX D

The IMPERMAX Dsystem, is mainly usedfor treatment of criticalpoints such asexpansion joints, fissures, vertical /horizontal encounters, etc. It is made of thefollowing elements (asper ETA nº 06/0263):

PRIMERS

The primer selected depends on thenature of the substrate, and the stateof it, according to the following table.

Substrate will always have thefollowing characteristics:

1. Cohesive

2. Regular

3. Clean, dry, free of dust and losematerials, exempt of grease, oils, etc.

PAGE 16

Page 19: Construction systems based on liquid waterproofing membranes

FINISH

IMPERMAX D is compatible with allthe different IMPERMAX systems.

ADVANTAGES

The use of IMPERMAX D systemprovides the following advantages:

1. Provides a totally continuousmembrane, without joints andoverlaps.

2. Totally adhered system. It does notallow water to flow between layers.

3. Elastic membrane. Bridges overfissures in substrate and resistsfatigue movement (according to EOTATR-nº 8).

4. It provides a total continuity in themembrane, making sure that allcritical points are treated properly.
