Column & Retaining Wall WorkAll scaffolds shall be erected as per standard 215.The scaffolding shall be used for building up the

rebars , form work and the concreting operations.

All and each individual activity shall not proceed without STARRTalk being conducted by the foreman.

Scaffolds shall be extended in height at strategic locations and these shall be used as anchorage for Personal fall protection where lifelines cannot be erected or are not reasonably practicable

Slab Casting & Precast Erection

Major safety consideration for slab casting is work at height and scaffolding as discussed in previous slides.

Precast erection is primarily a lifting operation HHC transfers this risk to an approved Contractor EPC the operations shall not commence without an approved method statement and Risk assessment.

The double tee erection which is the single largest of the operation as well as all other lifts shall be as per standard 221

Page 9: Construction safety at 071C20R new

Transformer Erection HHC chooses to transfer the risk associated

with Jack and slide operation to the sub contractor who is a specialist in the field .

The Road safety aspect of the movement of the low boy trailer shall be as per the approved RC procedure this will be preceded by a route survey

The use of beams dun nage hydraulic jacks and power packs Present hazards of crushing & falling objects this hall be taken care of by restricting the access to the work area, proper

Excavation safety management for ug works

Excavation competent person & supervisor to handle the excavation process and the work to proceed under the permit to work system.

Reference to as laid drawings where available if not, use of trail pits for detection of buried services.

Site inspection and survey and identification of over head or buried services prior to issue of work permit.

Protection of workers by ensuring correct design of sloping and shoring systems, use of trench boxes as required.

Prevention of cave in by ensuring that spoil is kept away by a minimum distance equal to depth of the excavation, barricades at a minimum of 6 feet from the edge of the excavation and dewatering done where required.

Page 14: Construction safety at 071C20R new

Restricting the movement of vehicles around the excavation to avoid surcharging, use of stop blocks for preventing plant from falling into excavation.

Appropriate handling of material and equipment.

Red man and green man training to all involved in the work.

STARRT talk on excavation and hazards involved prior to start of work.

Risk assessment and method statement approval prior to issue of permit to work.

Arrangement of access and egress such that a worker will walk a maximum of 25 feet to access exits.

Ladders to extend 1m above the excavation edge.

Regular inspection of excavation by supervisor and excavation competent person.
