FALL SAFETY IN CONSTRUCTION Failing to plan is planning to fail. We’ve all heard it. Having a plan is the #1 thing you can do to prevent falls in construction. Here’s a checklist to run through before starting work: PART 1 - PLANNING FOR PREVENTION 1. Will there be any at-height work on this jobsite? If yes, what is the plan to access the work to be performed? 2. Are ladders needed to complete the task? If yes, YES NO YES NO YES NO a. Do you have the right ladder for the job? b. Is the ladder in adequate working condition? c. Have you been trained how to set up a ladder safely and correctly? d. Is the ladder setup correctly? 4. Is Scaffolding required to complete the task? If yes, a. Is there a competent person on the jobsite who has inspected the scaffold before use? b. Is there a scaffold inspection tag on the scaffold? c. Have all the workers received proper scaffold training? d. Is there an emergency escape, rescue, and response plan? 3. Are bucket trucks, scissor lifts, or any other type of lift required to complete the task? If yes, a. Is there a level surface on the ground for safe footing? b. Have the workers been trained to operate the specific lift equipment being used? c. Have all the workers received fall protection training? d. For the workers wearing harnesses, has each worker inspected their harness today prior to putting it on? d. 3. Housing: Examine for distortion, cracks and other damage. Inspect anchoring loop for distortion and damage.
