Sharp had entered Denver with plans on running her 8-year-old Dash Ta Fame stallion Kr Famous Tequilla [sic], but opted for Smooch, owned by Terri Lamp of Cat Springs, Texas, after the mare finished second at Odessa. “I entered it to run Tequilla, because I thought he would excel in that type of set up,” she explained. “After winning second at Odessa, I wanted to stay on Smooch because she’s feeling good and working. It paid off.” Sharp was out in the very first set, making a run on the night of January 17 and the afternoon of the 18th. She and Smooch were a 15.26 on their first run and 15.37 on their second. Both runs held to place in the rounds. The 15.26 held on to first in the first round until the very end of the rodeo when Taylor Langdon and DashinLouie smoked a 15.04. “They usually say Denver gets better toward the end; don’t enter early,” said Sharp. “That’s just the only time I knew it would be easy and convenient for us.” Their average on two held for nearly as long only to be surpassed by Lang- don right at the end. However, another 15.26 in the short round on Sunday afternoon put Sharp and Smooch perma- nently atop the 2019 National Western leaderboard. Back in Texas, Lamp was anxiously awaiting the outcome. “I kept refreshing Facebook, trying to find a Live feed,” she laughed. “I was out riding when Kenny Nichols (the owner of Smooch’s sire Frenchmans Fabulous) texted me a video of her run. I saw it was a 15.26 and I was like does that mean we win? I didn’t know what anyone else ran! Then Jenni called me. ‘We won! We won the rodeo!’ She was so cute! It was super cool.” Lamp purchased the daughter of Frenchmans Fabulous out of Brian Gardner’s Marthas Six Moons mare Runnin Jessie Orchid as a yearling. Stephan Boutin, the maker of the No Hit Bits, started the mare before Lamp took her to the pattern. When a broken leg forced Lamp to the sidelines, she sent the mare to Sharp to run. After a few tweaks, Sharp had the mare clock- ing record times on a Standard Pattern and winning pro rodeos by late fall. Sharp did her due diligence with the mare getting her ready to make solid runs in Denver. She made sure to get her in the oddly set arena, which tends to favor left-barrel first horses like Smooch, Published Weekly, online at www.BarrelRacingReport.com - Since 2007 Pro Rodeos Continued on Page 5 Six French Smooches Rider: Jennifer Sharp; Owner: Terri Lamp; Breeder: Bryan Gardner Frenchmans Fabulous Frenchmans Guy Frenchman’s Lady Sun Frost Caseys Charm Casey’s Ladylove Tiny Circus SI 97 2011 Palomino Mare Runnin Jessie Orchid Marthas Six Moons SI 99 Lady Bugs Martha SI 89 Six Fols SI 90 Wild Black Orchid SI 97 Miss Bold Broad Gone To the Man SI 94 WPRA WORLD STANDINGS 1 Jennifer Sharp $22,299.22 10 2 Ivy Conrado $19,983.29 2 3 Lisa Lockhart $15,525.61 4 4 Cheyenne Wimberley $14,725.19 7 5 Lacinda Rose $14,635.83 5 6 Ericka Nelson $13,938.80 8 7 Sabra O’Quinn $13,937.73 6 8 Taylor Langdon $13,868.35 5 9 Leia Pluemer $12,498.24 4 10 Jackie Ganter $12,322.64 8 11 Kristen Spratt $12,048.70 5 12 Michelle Alley $11,536.61 5 13 Kylie Weast $11,520.66 2 14 Emily Miller $10,983.84 5 15 Kelly Bruner $10,479.89 4 16 Dona Rule $9,749.57 3 17 Shali Lord $9,627.66 2 18 Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi $9,394.78 7 19 Jimmie Smith $9,347.11 9 20 April Masterson $8,396.79 4 www.BarrelRacingReport.com Courtesy of www.wpra.com - unofficial as of 1/28/19

PBR & WCRA Combine for a Weekend in Green Bay For the first time in the city of Green Bay, an unforgettable weekend of western sports action will combine the PBR (Profes-sional Bull Riders) and World Champions Rodeo Alliance (WCRA) in three days of on-the-dirt action. PBR’s elite series will debut at Resch Center for two days of epic rides and wrecks. Sandwiched between the PBR event, WCRA, a new marquee rodeo, will bring its own brand of western sports excitement to the popular bull-riding event. The WCRA Titletown Stampede – a One-Day $1 Million Major Rodeo – will be WCRA’s second major of 2019. “Following a great weekend in Chicago in January for the first million-dollar WCRA rodeo of the 2019 season, we’re thrilled to again pair WCRA with PBR for an exciting weekend of western sports,” said Sean Gleason, CEO, PBR. “In representing WCRA’s media rights we are thrilled to bring this marquee rodeo to network television on CBS Sports.” The top 35 bull riders in the world will take to the dirt for Round 1 on Friday, May 31 and then for Round 2 on Sunday, June 2. Each rider will face one bull each. Following Round 2 Sunday afternoon, the event’s Top 15 riders with the highest two-round cumulative scores will advance to the championship round for one more bull

and a chance at the event title. The Titletown Stampede will feature athletes from around the globe who have qualified to compete through the WCRA Virtual Rodeo Qualifier (VRQ), a web based app used to track rodeo athletes performances worldwide. The WCRA major rodeo events series will award top money to the top competitor in eight events — bareback riding, women’s breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, tie-down roping, barrel racing, and bull riding — each athlete competing for their piece of the $1 million purse. Athletes in each discipline — including both headers and heelers in the team-roping event — will compete for more than $111,000, with the champions walking away with $50,000 each. “We are truly excited about the opportunity to bring rodeo to another major U.S. market east of the Mississippi and network tele-vision,” said WCRA President, Bobby Mote. “Our partnership with PBR continues to expose the sport of rodeo to new demographics and will broaden the horizon of professional rodeo, which is exactly what we set out to do.” On Sunday, June 2 fans will be able to tune into the Titletown Stampede Showdown Round on a CBS network broadcast at 1:30-2:30 P.M. ET “WCRA’s media rights relationship with PBR is crucial to our mission to broaden exposure for rodeo through network televi-sion,” said Mote. “We are now one of only three rodeos in North America (Calgary Stampede and Days of ‘47 Cowboy Games & Ro-deo) to reach every American household through broadcast media coverage.” In early 2018, PBR and WCRA announced a collaboration to jointly produce, market, and promote rodeo events in an effort to expand television and digital coverage of the sport, build the profiles of the world’s best rodeo athletes, and grow the sport’s fan base. All WCRA events will be broadcast live on RidePass, the definitive source on western sports and lifestyle, which delivers fans the most entertaining, authentic, and accessible western sports experience in the world. Since launching in May of 2018, the WCRA and its partners have awarded more than $3,024,000 in new money to rodeo athletes. Qualifying for events will be based purely on performance and on series points, rather than dollars won, through a new world-ranking points system. The PBR action in Green Bay starts at 7:45 p.m. CT on Friday, May 31 airing live on RidePass and concludes on Sunday, June 2 with a Live telecast on CBS Sports Network at 4-6:30 p.m. EST. Tickets sales for the two-day PBR event as well as the Titletown Stampede on Saturday, June 1 starting at 7 p.m. will be announced sometime next month and start at $10. All tickets for the event can be purchased at Resch Arena Box Office or by calling Ticketmaster 1-800-745-3000 or going online at Ticketmaster.com. Combination tickets for the WCRA and PBR events will be available through PBR Rewards as well. This year both Premium and Elite Seats will be available for those fans wanting to be up close and personal with all the action on Fri-day and Saturday night. Elite Seats can be purchased for $350 and are available on Friday and Sunday only while premium experience will be available all three nights.

before each run. “I ran at Park City, Kansas, Saturday night and made the all night drive back to Denver,” she explained. “I think we got in at 4 in the morning and practice was a 8. I got up and rode her in practice before the short round. It’s definitely a game changer to get her in the arena before I run. It makes a big difference.” Sharp said she loped the mare through before her first round run to let her get a feel for the ground. The second practice, she just walked and trotted the pattern, focusing on getting past the second and third barrels. Before the short go, she loped her through again and made sure she got enough room at the third, since they hit at San Angelo, Texas. “Her three runs weren’t perfect at all,” she said. “They were just solid. I would definitely say she loved the crowd. She ran harder with the crowd.” After Denver, Sharp’s husband Robbie had another all-night drive to get them to Texas for the Fort Worth rodeo Monday night, which she and Smooch are currently leading as well. On Tuesday, she regroups to leave for the Kinder Cup Futurity in Louisiana. She plans on running Tequilla at Lake Charles, Louisiana, while in the state for Kinder. Smooch’s next run might be the Dixie Nation-als in Jackson, Mississippi. Unfortunately for the No. 1 ranked barrel racer in the world, she didn’t get into Rodeo Houston or San Antonio. “I’m the first alternate for San Antonio,” she said. “I’m hoping and praying.” Sharp and Smooch have been on a hot streak, placing third in the average at the Texas Circuit Finals and placing second at the Sand Hill Stock Show & Rodeo in Odessa before the Denver win. Sharp

also placed third on Tequilla at Park City. She currently has $22,299 won on the season. “I’m just taking it one run at a time,” said Sharp. “I’ve never been this far ahead, so I don’t know what do next!” Sharp wanted to thank Lamp as well as her family and friends for all the support. “It makes it a lot more fun to know you’ve got so many people pulling for you,” she said.

By Tanya Randall Three-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier Sydni Blanchard of Pueblo, Colorado, turned in two blistering runs at the Last Chance American Semifinals Qualifier, held during the Dinosaur Classic in Glen Rose, Texas. Blanchard topped the leaderboard with her 9-year-old mare Famous Heartbreaker with a 14.723, earning $4,076 between the Qualifier and Open rollover. She was third on the 12-year-old mare French Rivierra (“Frenchie”) with a 14.792 to earn $2,783. “It’s a really tough qualifier and it’s really fun to watch—‘Oh look, there’s Lisa Lockhart. Oh, it’s Tres Movidas. Slick’s there and Feel The Sting. You don’t want to look around and think how am I going to be in the Top 12? It’s a tough one. It gives you confidence too because if you can win at this you can win at The American too. It’s a good confidence booster,” said Blanchard. Heart, the Dash Ta Fame, Shawne Bug mare who took Blanchard to the 2017 WNFR, was just returning to the arena after popping a deep abscess that had started causing problems around Christmas. “It was really deep so it took forever for her to bust it,” Blanchard said. “I had my vet over quite a few times, trying to doctor her and get rid of it for me. She finally busted it and we put shoes back on her Monday.” Blanchard had originally planned on running her previous NFR qualifier Pure Victory Dash, but after placing sixth on Heart that Friday night, she opted to switch the horses in the Qualifier. “I literally cruised her through the day before just to see—make sure she felt good and see if she’d even clock,” she explained. “She felt great and ran a 14.9, so I went ahead and ran her.”

Even though Blanchard was able to walk Heart a lot while the mare fought her abscess, she still wasn’t sure the mare would be ready for the Qualifier or her upcoming winter rodeos. “I really didn’t know if she would be ready,” she said. Heart, who was injured most of 2018, had made less than a handful of runs in

a year’s time, and had only returned to competition for the All-In at the first of December. “I tried to get a trade at Fort Worth to near the end. I had no idea. I ran one of my other horses at the first set in Denver when my vet called me and said, ‘I’m not sure it’s just an abscess because she should be getting better.’ I was actually quite worried that I wouldn’t have her for the year, depending on what it was.” “Her abscess was really weird. She’d be totally fine and I’d go to riding her and then she’d be totally lame, like toeing it. Then she’d get slowly better. That’s what made us think it wasn’t just an abscess, but it busted and now she’s back. “Now we’re just doctoring a hole. I have to keep a diaper on her and keep that hole packed with magic cushion.” Although Blanchard knew that Heart was capable of the win, if she was healthy and got her run, it was Frenchie’s performance that really surprised her. “She definitely surprised me,” she said of the Frenchmans Guy, Streakin Six mare. “I felt like Heart really laid down a run. Frenchie—you never know what you’re going to clock on her. She’s never way off, but she can be anywhere from a 2- to 3-tenths differ-ence. Her runs all feel the same, so there’s no gauging how you did. It’s not like running home on Heart and you know you’ve just made a really good run. It’s always exciting when a great time pops up on her.” Blanchard, who is out at the Fort Worth pro rodeo on Friday night, said another NFR run isn’t her hard-and-fast goal for year, but rather she’ll take it one run at time and she how things are as the season plays out. Plus, she wants to help her fiancé Cody Pratt make the NFR too. “I think, if anything, I’ve learned not to make goals because we are on animals and we’re not much without our horses,” she lamented. “I think you can make the Finals, if your heart is really in it even if your horse goes lame. You can call people and find horses

and everything. I’ve been rodeoing for 12 years and I’ve done that several times. I’ve made the Finals three times and I’ve been 16th to 20th three or four other times. “I’m going to go where my horses does well, but mainly I’m go-ing to try to help Cody. He’s going to try to make the Finals in the steer wrestling, so I’ll go where he’s going. And, if it looks like we’re close to making it again at the end of the year, I’ll go a little harder.”

Headin’ For Home by Sherry Morrison Triple M (Mike Morrison Ministries)

Everyone reading this article has lived through the worst day of their life...makes you think, doesn’t it? When I heard it, I thought, “Well, yeah, I guess I have.”

For me, it made me realize that although, on that particular day, I was having challenges, it put them in perspective. Our perspective should always be that God NEVER leaves us or forsakes us. Heb. 13:5. And though I wouldn’t say I know every word of the Bible, so far I haven’t seen where God has been moved by a hang nail or cancer. His answer to either of those is, I Pet. 2:24, “by Jesus stripes we are healed.” And He laughs at poverty. He had Isaac plant in a famine and he reaped 100 fold. Gen. 26:12. We all have challenges. Maybe today you are looking at something that seems pretty tough. Be of good cheer! Jesus has already overcome it. John 16:33.

And we have each other. We can pray together. You can be the strength someone else needs, and they for you when you’re chal-lenged! Friend, we have so many promises from God. And they’ll see us through anything! This week, let’s lean on God and each other and win every time!
