At that time, the company’s name was Malta Scrap Iron and Metal Company. In 1963, after Antonio Cremona’s death, his widow Lorenza made her brother Joseph Fenech a partner in the firm and Fenech & Cremona was established. Today, we specialize in the recycle of ferrous and non–ferrous metal scrap such as copper, brass, lead and aluminium, and also in the shredding of various types of materials such as mattresses and confidential documents.

Metalco Ltd. has been in operation since 1988. It operates as an offshoot of Fenech & Cremona. Originally the firm was started by the late Anthony Cremona right after World War I where Antonio Cremona started recycling hides, glass and metals, which were exported to Italy.

Our Services

Waste Management Services

We make it easy and cost-effective for our suppliers of raw scrap to dispose of their materials in an environmentally responsible manner. We process our scrap metal by sorting, shearing, shredding and baling. Our facilities contain an array of processing equipment such as fixed and mobile shears, balers and loading equipment such as material handlers and conveyors. We transport processed scrap to customers in Europe and other countries primarily via ships. As part of our commitment to being a very efficient, low cost scrap

processor, we are constantly investing in improvements to our facilities to increase our capabilities and efficiency while reducing our environmental footprint.

We purchase a wide variety of non-ferrous and ferrous scrap metal. Our suppliers range from the common peddler to some of the largest producers of scrap metal in Malta. This said, we purchase almost any kind of scrap metal, particularly in large quantities.

Metalco Ltd. is a manufacturing organization whose major classification is the recycling of non-ferrous metals, paper shredding and cable stripping. As one of Malta’s largest recyclers of scrap metal, we collect, process and recycle non-ferrous metals (such as aluminium, copper, stainless steel, nickel, brass, tin and others).

Aluminium raw material is supplied in the form of: soda cans, bumber, pots, pans, foil window frames, printing sheets, air conditioners and crown corks. This product is normally sorted by hand. There are various types of aluminium such as: cast, profiles, zamac, lead, soft and cans.

Copper raw material reaches the organization in the form of: electrical wiring, copper piping, copper bus bars, solid transformers, starters, kettles. Varieties are between copper1, copper2, copper3 all are sorted by hand and placed in jumbo bags.

Brass is supplied in the form of auto radiators, ornamental brass, keys, locks, railings, gear bolts.

Baled (compressed) in form of chippings, it must also be sorted by hand.

Stainless Steel

This raw material is supplied in the form of auto batteries, soft lead, colars, lintho type and zinc. It is normally melted.

This arrives at our yard in the form of electrical cables, which are insulated copper and aluminium wires. There is also lead covered copper power cables. Machine based system which separates the cables into their component parts.

Puttinu Cares 2013 Puttinu Cares 2014

In 2013 Metalco Ltd. together with Metweee and a local charity Puttinu Cares launched an online campaign to collect old mobile phones. From the 5,000 mobiles collected, Metalco Ltd. managed to raise €2,000 which were all donated to Puttinu Cares.

In 2014 Metalco Ltd. once again partnered up with Metweee and Puttinu Cares by launching a campaign within schools across the Maltese Islands to promote and encourage the recycling of electronic waste. Metalco supplied special bins to the schools to allow students to recycle certain waste, after which it will be collected and processed by Metalco in order to raise a donation for Puttinu Cares.
