Project Title Extended Project

Section 1: Rationale (approx. 150 words)My main area of interest is a men’s street wear sub culture. This decision has come from a personal interest in this area, specifically around brands such as Supreme and Palace. These brands are being used as a way for young entrepreneurs to make money, as there is very high demand for their products with very limited supply. My video will focus on the personal style element of this which comes out during the clothing releases in London, and I will document this whilst also investigating the business element of the culture. My extended project will use all of my learnt skills to produce a short piece on fashion, which will attract both audiences already interested in the matter and new audiences to this sub culture. I feel this is what’s important about my project as it will be interesting for both people like myself who have an existing passion in this sub culture and other audiences that are new to this culture.

Section 2: Project Concept (approx. 200 words)This project will take the form of a short documentary, around 7 or 8 minutes long. This time frame will allow me to give enough information to the viewers as well as exploring the stylistic

techniques I am aiming for. I have been influenced by other documentaries on the same subject such as Sold Out (2015) and Buying to Sell (2017), which explore the entrepreneurial side of this sub culture and the clothes driving it. These documentaries have influenced me as I can see how popular they have become which means there is a target audience to be exploited. Other videos about the clothing releases as well as articles focusing on the topic (including the business side) will be the focus of my research. I can use the research articles and videos to influence aspects of my project such as brands I focus on and what I include in the voiceover. Focusing on target audience, I have identified that people around my age (17) have the strongest interest in these brands and therefore make up my target audience. This means my target audience is between 15 and 25, so I will direct some things such as musical choices to this age group. My primary role will be the Director; however, I will have to take on many roles as this is an independently produced project. I will be the researcher, planner, cinematographer as well as editor on this project. Due to the amount of roles I need to take on I believe I can showcase my skill set fully. Research and pre-production tasks will show my planning skills well and when in production I can show the camera and audio recording techniques I have learnt. I will have an emphasis on the framing and then editing the shots (colour grading etc.) to really show off the clothing people where and how much effort people put into outfits. These technical requirements include having a DSLR, Steadicam and access to editing software along with the skills to edit which I already have. Overall, I see my project as very achievable, as I have a passion for my subject, and all the resources available to produce it.

Section 3: Evaluation (approx. 150 words)For my evaluation and reflection of the Extended project I will firstly document my reflection of every step of the process, and then at the end of production I will collate and reflect on this. This will give me a chance to reflect and evaluate the project, so I can keep on top of it and make sure I am where I should be. I will also do this to collate everything I have learnt from the process, to try and use it to my benefit in the future. I will evaluate how each stage of the project has gone, research, pre-production, filming and post production. This will give me a good idea of how each stage of production has gone in detail, and offer me a chance to see what I have learnt. As well as this I will upload the project to YouTube and Twitter to get feedback from the public (as well as tutors) and will document this feedback on my blog. I will also arrange some sort of showing of my project in person, to get personal feedback and see an audience’s reaction.

CHAPTER 1

Introduction

Introduction to the Chapter - This portfolio is my extended project for my second year UAL Film & TV course. My project will be in the form of a short documentary, based on men’s street wear fashion cultures. In this chapter, I will show the development of my idea by looking at the background of my project idea, as well as the background of my other work and what I have learnt on the course. As well as this, I will complete my research plan, which will help me in the further chapters of both research and pre-production. This research plan and work surrounding it will reveal why my project is important, and the core skills I have developed to make it.

The Background of my Project

There are many factors influencing my project, especially my motivations behind producing it. This sub culture of fashion I am exploring is one that I have a deep interest in personally, so this in itself is driving me to produce the project. My personal experiences in this area are ones such as being complimented on fashion sense and particularly items of clothing from these highly exclusive brands. I have also made money from selling these exclusive items of clothing on for a profit, and for a teenager without a job like myself it is a very easy and efficient way of making money. Looking at the skill development aspect of this project there are a lot of my skills I will have to put into practice. It will be my first exploration into documentary film making, which requires its own set of skills in itself. For this I will have to ensure I have a strong script as a voiceover to some parts of the video, a common part of documentary and something that will grip the audience. My target audience is varied when it comes to this project, as I would like people such as myself who have a pre-existing interest in this sub culture to watch it as well as new comers to the culture. However, I aim for both of these target audiences to be more informed than before watching my project.

During this project I will be the project leader and use my skills in every stage of production. I will research into this sub culture of fashion, and different trends in previous eras before starting my pre-production. Pre-production and the paper work that comes with it will form the initial base for my project in terms of storyboards and schedules. My focus in this project will be the cinematography side, with an emphasis on camera and editing techniques. Although I am aiming for a documentary style I would like for some of my shots to be cinematic. Camera and editing work is something I want to pursue as a career, so getting more experience in now is nothing but beneficial for me.

What did I learn on my course?

https://magic.piktochart.com/output/21123128-course-timeline

What is my project about?

My extended project is about men’s street wear fashion. It is based on the core human feelings of the need to belong and be a part of a group, and I will explore how this tribe mentality can be applied to some fashion trends. These trends I am exploring are based around exclusive clothing/shoe releases, which create both hype amongst communities and business opportunities for entrepreneurial millennials. Men’s fashion trends have been evolving for decades now, however there has never been such an obsession with getting sought after products as there is now. These products can fetch exuberant amounts of money, as well as creating a lot of conversation. My project will provide an insight into this culture that has been created surrounding certain brands.

Why my project is important? I feel my project is important for a number of reasons. On a personal level I have a deep interest in this subject, in both terms of style and the business side. For myself it’s also important to try other forms of media, and this will be my first exploration into documentary film making. In the journey of this project I hope to educate myself on the history of this sub culture, as well as the reasons behind it’s huge following. It is a sub culture in itself, however it’s affected by other cultures such as music, and exploring this link is something that is also important to my project. There are also many others like me who share this passion for certain brands, and for them a video exploring this culture can be a very interesting and informative watch. Another interesting aspect of my project is psychological ways of looking at fashion, such as the need to belong to a group. This is a core human need, and fashion is something that can satisfy this need very easily. Just the purchase of one t-shirt or joining a group on social media can make an individual feel like they belong to something very big. Overall the personal (experimenting, self-education) and wider (links with cultures, business, informing others) factors of my project is what will make it so important.

Table 3- My Research Plan

EXTENDED PROJECT - RESEARCH PLAN No of Words

Interest/Topic/Theme 150My area of interest for my FMP is fashion. Specifically, I am interested in men’s street wear and the culture surrounding it. This culture is one of both individual style and business, as these highly sought after products can draw a lot of attention as well as making individuals a lot of money through re sale markets. This is something I have developed a personal interest in and would like to show this culture in the form of a short documentary. This way I can easily inform the audience without having to worry about any dramatic techniques, just facts and information on my topic. Why is it important? - Importance 100I believe that fashion and specifically my interest in street wear is important due to the deep history of this sub culture, as well as how and why the hype happens. There are millions of people interested in clothing brands, some of which only release small quantities of products. These products then become very sought after and a culture of hype is created. From this hype a culture of both business as well as lifestyle have combined to create groups of dedicated fans of these brands. My interest is in presenting this to an audience in a compelling visual way, and showing people a world they may not be familiar with.My research question(s) 100I am trying to find out a number of things with my research plan. Firstly, I will look at what form I want my project to be in, either short film or short documentary. After this I will then look into my topic of fashion, specifically areas such as male street wear trends and the groups created from them in past era’s. As part of my research I also want to look into the history of some of these current street wear brands, as well as how they compare to brands that aren’t labelled as street wear and what sets them apart. I’m also looking to find out why there is such a big culture of hype and desire surrounding these brands.

Research Design 100My research will be done using both primary and secondary methods. For primary research I will be conducting photography and note taking on the topic of fashion, as well as interviews with

others. Secondary research will be the bulk of my work, as this way I can research both the street wear history and what form of video I want to make. To decide on the form, I will look into previous work on the same subject and look at what form those videos are to gain inspiration from. Online research will also help me look into the culture of street wear more, and get information that I couldn’t do from primary research. This includes interviews with people who have founded brands, people I would not be able to interview. Other secondary resources such as magazines will be used.Literature (Proposed Sources – Harvard Format)YouTube, 2017 (Online) Available at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCh7ttG6-bf3XMsv1CkZLI6QDate Accessed 18/04/17, The Unknown Vlogs YouTube, 2017 (Online) Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUNc0C03trkDate Accessed 18/04/17, Complex NewsYouTube, 2017 (Online) Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCyyPWU5qsoDate Accessed 18/04/17, Change A Way Films

CHAPTER 2

Literature/Resources Review

Introduction

During this chapter I will present what I know already about some aspects of the film industry as well as previous knowledge on the subject of my Extended Project. I will present my body of resources and review them in terms of suitability to my project. This will include my practitioner’s report that looks at two influential cinematographers in the film industry. My other resources are materials such as documentaries, vlogs, websites and magazines which revolve around the subject area my short documentary is focused on, as well as the techniques I will employ in producing it. These sources provide the basis of my extended project and will influence my further development as they summarise both the subject matter and skills I require to produce the short documentary I aim to. Chapter 2 will conclude with a review of the key ideas and conclusions I can make from the resources in this chapter.

Practitioners Report https://conradpastucharussellfilmandtelevision.wordpress.com/2017/02/20/week-6/

Tell the reader what you have learnt from previous work/literature/resources and how you position yourself in relation to previous work in chosen discipline/theme/topic/interest, within which your project is located.

In my previous work (Practioners, Experimental) I have learnt a lot about new techniques and the skills needed to produce them. My practitioners report was focusing on two famous cinematographers, Harry Savides and Wally Pfister. Both of these professionals where highly influential in the world of film due to the techniques they used in their work. For my project I am not making a short film, however in documentary the visual aspect is still very important and a personal goal of mine to focus on. Looking at the work of these two professionals allowed to me to recognize and pick up on some techniques I can use in my own work. Some of Savides comment’s and views on film making are one’s similar to mine during this project. One of his famous quotes was “I’m always wary of making things too beautiful and too photographic”. As I am looking into street wear it would make little sense shooting outfits and interviews as if they where high fashion catwalk subjects. So even though I want to use equipment such as Steadicam’s and colour grade some of my footage, I will ensure it sticks true to an urban feel. This will be done in the colour grading stage of post production, as I will grade the image in certain tones. Savides also was famous for using natural lighting in his work, and lighting the whole scene not just one character. This is another technique I will be using and when shooting on location at the clothing stores in London I will be shooting outfits on the streets, therefor using natural lighting. Any adjustments to the light can be made on my camera by adjusting the settings, or in post production.

Wally Pfister was always obsessed with the quality of his films in terms of video resolution and how he shot them. In the world of street wear and the skating world, there is an ever lasting trend of shooting with older VHS style cameras which produce a certain look to the video. Although I will be

filming on a digital DSLR, in editing I can manipulate the image in a variety of ways. One of these ways is in Premiere Pro to apply a Super 8 vignette look as well as colour grading the footage slightly. This technique keeps original footage with an overlay of the Super 8 style grain and flickering. Even though Pfister used film for its high resolution, I can use its style for a different look that is more relevant to my project. Using this technique will also match into Savides comments of “not making things too beautiful” as this film style has a very rough look.

My work on experimentation has also fed into this project and specifically the discipline of cinematography. During these experiments were the first opportunity I have had using a Steadicam, which made me want to use it in this project to get the same sort of smooth footage. Even though my experiments with light painting and three-point lighting set up’s where good practice I don’t think they will help me much with this project. When I am interviewing a subject I will most probably just use a two-point lighting set up and any natural light available. What really will help from my experimentation work however is the editing techniques I used in Avid. I editing with quick cuts to music, colour graded footage and added black bars to achieve a cinematic look. This look is something I want to replicate in some parts of my short documentary, mostly when showing off street wear outfits.

Provide evidence that you are well informed.

I feel going into this project that I am very well informed and well equipped in terms of producing it and the background of the subject. It is something I have had a personal interest in for around 6 months now, as I have been buying from these brands both to wear and to re sell. My personal experience and that of others around me is something that will be included in the project, and has definitely inspired me to choose this idea. As a 17 year old without a job, re selling these clothes and shoes has provided me with an income and sense of entrepreneurial spirit due to the profits I have made. This is why I want to explore the re selling market a bit more in my project, and have already done so in by watching other documentaries and reading articles on the matter. Some of these articles I have read have been on business websites and not clothing websites showing how there is a strong business element in the culture I am exploring, and I come into this project with previous knowledge of it. Consuming these videos and articles is something I do in my spare time, so I’ve come into this project having a good understanding.

Recently when looking in a Facebook group called “Supreme Talk UK/EU” which is all about discussing, buying and selling clothing from the brand Supreme I came across a video called “Buying to Sell”. This video was about the reselling business of vintage clothing and gained attention in the group. I can look to this example for many things which I will detail in Chapter 4, however just from watching it I gained ideas of promoting my work in these groups which has ten’s of thousands of members as well as looking at the actual video itself. The video focused on interviews with individuals, presenting items of clothing and some other aspects that are similar to mine so this is another factor I can present in Chapter 4. Going into the research methods and findings chapters of this extended project, I feel very confident on my background knowledge of this subject, as well as the primary and secondary research I can carry out to extended my knowledge and answer my research questions.

Examine and explore existing media products, practices and ideas in the spirit of creativity and imagination (What makes different media product distinct from one another?).

Identify different media projects and other research sources related to your media project. Record and analyse findings. (You can use any media format to record your findings).

Looking at what I know already I have explored a lot of media products and videos before even starting this project. During the research stage I will watch them all again with a more analytical eye and re read the articles to refresh my memory. I have identified the sources of my research in the research plan and project proposal documents and that is the summation of my secondary research sources. It ranges from vlogs showcasing fashion releases, documentaries, articles on the fashion brands and their history as well articles detailing the business side of the culture. I feel that this gives me a wide range of sources to draw inspiration from and answer the research questions I will detail in Chapter 3. However, without analysing these sources too deeply I can already see some differences in media forms. When it comes to vlogs they have a more gorilla way of being made with handheld camera’s and not much advanced editing. Compared to documentaries there is an evident difference where they are highly scripted and planned out, with good equipment and strong editing. Due to these differences I will have a documentary feel to my project instead of just a vlog, which also tend to just showcase a period of time or event whereas documentaries have no time limit. Some vlogs I watch however are about fashion releases and some portions of these I will get inspiration from as to showcase fashion style and its outfits. There are also elements such as whether the video is colour graded or not and whether it is edited to music, however these can be in either form they are just dependant on the film maker. Short film is a medium I didn’t really consider in the conceptualization of this project as it it mostly based around fictitious events and my work is purely factual.

Answer questions (What? Why? /How? /Look for specific problems and issues (theoretical and practical)/how media product communicates with the audiences/background of the artist and the project).

Some of the issues I can see with both my project and ones that are similar are focusing on too much in one video. I will look to minimize this issue by focusing my project around a series of research questions that I will devise in Chapter 3. I will try and pick out 4 or 5 key research questions and dedicate around a minute and a half to each of these. This will keep my project at an achievable length as I don’t have the time or the resources to make a documentary as long as Sold Out made by Complex magazine. This timeframe is a good one for a short documentary and this is my chosen style after thinking about what I already know. I can script and record a voiceover as this is how my examples as well as general documentaries are styled. To go with this documentary style, I will also be including filmic techniques (detailed in question 1) which I have been inspired to by fashion vloggers. I believe adding these cinematic sequences focused on the style aspect of this fashion culture will really engage the audience in understanding the project. This is true for both the audience that has a previous interest in the subject and the audience that has none. They can both be impressed by the outfits and style of individuals, regardless of background information.

Some practical issues are the interview section of documentaries I have watched and how to replicate that. I will be able to solve this by interviewing friends who have worn and sold clothes as well as a friend who has starting his own street wear brand. This will allow me to shoot these interviews in a controlled environment where I can set up lighting and audio rigs. I will style these interviews just like a conversation in an effort to get the viewer drawn into the video and its subject matter. While analysing the work I have drawn inspiration from I can have a look at the feedback from that as well as drawing my own feedback from it. This will help me decide what the best methods are for both engaging with an audience and avoiding potential issues or wrongdoings.

CONCLUSION - Who/what was my inspiration? /Contextualisation of my study

Chapter 2 has acted as a good summary of my existing knowledge of my subject area, as well as a brief analysis of the videos and articles I have found from my secondary research. It has been a good bridge between chapter’s 1 & 3 as it has backed up my project conceptualization by showing what I already knew, and detailing what research I will look at in chapter’s 3 & 4. I can see relation of my planned video to two main similar media products called Sold Out and Buying to Sell, as well as vlogs from internet film makers such as Unknown Vlogs. These are related to my work due to the similar focus on this specific fashion culture., re selling and fashion style. They all explore this sub culture in different ways, but are focused around those areas and the areas I will explore. I can see some differences as some of these (Sold Out) are made by companies with big budgets and a lot of resources, where I am mostly a one-man team for this project.

They have not just influenced my project in terms of subject matter, they have influenced me in many other ways. Firstly, I will place an emphasis on shooting the clothes in a cinematic way at some point in the short documentary. I have drawn inspiration from Complex and Unknown Vlogs to do this as they both shoot outfits and clothing releases with good equipment and then edit them well (colour grading, music) in post production. Articles I have found have also been very helpful in finding information about the history of the brands, and how the business side of it works. This covers both why they release such limited stock and the re selling markets. I will definitely use information from these articles in my final video. I’ve also learnt from the two documentaries that I can mix elements of fashion history, style and business in one video and it will be my aim to produce such a piece to a high standard. Some of these products (YouTube tutorials) have also helped me with techniques in how to edit my footage to achieve certain visual looks. Going back and linking my practitioners report to this project helped me realise just how import the visual side of any product is by looking at what I had learnt from industry professionals and their techniques.

This chapter and the analytical work I have done in it, has helped me realise the requirements of my project. I will have to conduct more research, especially primary research, to gain a greater and more personal understanding of my project. This can be done by having focus groups, however I will detail more methods for primary research in Chapter 3. Pre Production and having a good storyboard and shot list will be vital for me as they provide a strong basis to film on, and all the documentaries I watched for secondary research where very well structured due to this strong basis a storyboard provides. Equipment to film is another area of concern, however I can get this from college, family or friends. Friends can also help with interviews as I have many that are also interested in this fashion culture and actively buy the clothing either to wear or make money from. A lot of the videos I found where based near the clothing shops, and they are only an hour on the train from me so easy to get to. These stores are where I can film outfits as well as interview the people shopping there. When I have my footage I will edit using AVID or Premiere Pro, and the secondary research I have found on editing techniques will help me achieve some interesting visual styles.

CHAPTER 3

Research Design

Introduction

For this Chapter I will detail the research techniques I will conduct to gather a wide range of findings. I will show my research questions and then describe my research design and well as methods I will put into practice. For primary techniques I will do activities such as interviews, focus groups and photography around my subject. A lot of my research will also come from secondary techniques, and for this I will find online articles and videos on my subject as well as magazines and books. Doing this will give me a well-rounded knowledge base of my subject and allow me to move onto pre-production paper work.

Research Questions

I am trying to find out a number of things with my research questions. I will look into my topic of fashion, specifically the sub-genre of current men’s street wear such as Palace and Supreme. My first area of research will be to look at the groups created from trends in past era’s (mod, emo) and briefly touch on this in the short documentary to give it some context in a timeline. As part of my research I also want to look into the history of some of these current brands, as well as how they compare to brands that aren’t labelled as street wear and what sets them apart. I’ll look into how the low supply and high demand affects the price and the quality of these products. This supply and demand ratio also means there is a big culture of hype and desire surrounding these brands and people will spend a lot of time and money dedicated to them. My main research question will be investigating what makes this demand so high, as well as why the companies have decided to release such limited supplies. My project has many research questions that are core to the documentary I am making, and all of these questions will be answered in the final piece.

• Subject you are going to research

As detailed in my research questions above, I have 5 main research questions/areas. This primary research will form the personal side to my research for this documentary. I will look to get these questioned answered by techniques such as interviews and focus groups to gleam information from friends and family. This form of primary research gives me quick and reliable results, and I will only have to come up with a few questions and arrange to get people together. Online questionnaires are also useful for getting primary information so I can look to set these up and post it in social media groups to get responses. Something very achievable is noting the feedback received from lecturers on there views of my project. Analysing and commenting on this feedback can allow me to realise what they like and dislike about my project, as well as any areas of concern they may have that I can address. This sort of feedback can also be delivered through class mates, and analysed in the same manor. Trying to contact companies is also another form of primary research and may even help with the contents of my video. I could contact companies that are involved in fashion reselling through social media or their website’s to get their opinion on my project, as well as finding out if they would like to be featured in the video. One final way of getting good primary research will be doing observations. These can be done on my phone by taking notes or pictures, and if I link the observations into fashion I can get some interesting information. An area such as Canterbury would be perfect for this as there are a lot of fashion conscious students as well as fashion shops in the town centre.

• Target audience

My main target audience for this project is males of around 15 to 25. Female’s do have an interest in street wear as I have found in secondary research, however I believe from what I have seen and the music choices I want to make (rap, grime) my project will be slightly more directed towards men. Women will be interested in my project however, as some of street wear’s leading influencers on social media are women and I have seen many waiting in line for the fashion releases in the videos I have watched online. My core audience is one that has an interest in the sub culture, and has had experience buying these clothes either to wear or sell. They would preferably be in Facebook groups such as Supreme Talk or Palace Talk as this would indicate they actively discuss and know what’s going on in the fashion world. My target audience may wear the clothes, however they may not know the answers to my research questions such as the origins of these brands and why they release such limited stock, hopefully my project will fill this knowledge gap. I can investigate this target audience more in depth by searching online the demographic and investigate the types of media they consume. To do this I can use “YouGov” profiles which give a brief run down of certain groups of peoples. I will investigate through both interviews and secondary research my audience and the sort of media they watch as well. I’m expecting to see a lot of instant media being consumed thanks to the internet and films/TV on demand.

I also have a wider target audience of people 30 and above. They probably witnessed previous fashion trends such as mod’s and goth’s, so when watching my video, they can be educated on the most current trends. The brands I am researching can be relatable to these older audiences however, as they take inspiration from 80’s or 90’s style as well as musicians from older era’s.

• Skills and techniques

For my extended project I will need a lot of skills, ones both old and new. This is a perfect opportunity for me to use primary and secondary research to improve my skills base. I will have to start off with secondary research to achieve this, as it will allow me to identify what skills I can improve on by watching other people’s work. I can then watch tutorials on YouTube or read articles on achieving specific skills that I will need for my project. After that I will then conduct primary research by putting these skills into practice and experimenting with them. For example, I can use my secondary research on how to make digital footage appear like Super 8 camera footage, and turn it into primary research by replicating these effects with my own footage. I can also experiment with lighting, camera equipment and editing to music and include this as primary research. Documentary form is also new to me so I will have to do research into what skills and techniques are individual to this and how to put them into use when creating my own project. This covers parts of production such as scripting, filming and editing and how they can be customized for documentary.

• Production research

CHAPTER 4

Research Findings

In this chapter, you will summarise the collected data and the statistical treatment, and/or mechanics, of analysis. You should start this paragraph by briefly restating the topic/theme of your project (take it from Chapter 1).

Explain the object of each question, research activity, point out results, and present those results in a chosen form of summarised data. Select method of presenting data carefully.

In a quantitative study, the results usually begin with a description of the sample (e.g., sample size, description of participants who were excluded and why, handling of missing data). Next, descriptive statistics (e.g., frequencies/percentages for categorical variables, means, standard deviations, and ranges for continuously measured variables) are presented.

In a qualitative study, the results often include many quotes from participants who were interviewed. Here you should also present your non-textual elements such as photos, videos, audio files, maps, tables, charts, mind maps, SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis, etc.

Review sold out and buying to sell in relation to me. Articles found that answer research questions.

1. groups created from trends in past era’s2. history of some of these current brands3. what sets them apart.4. what makes this demand so high5. why the companies have decided to release such limited supplies

Target Audience

In this generation everything is instant, these clothes are a challenge, can’t buy from any old website has to be Depop seller or Facebook group so requires searching. Instant media and music available, listen to rap/grime/dnb, fashion is important in rap and grime so crosses over. Brands play on media and music coverage.

My Project

Introduction In this chapter you should present the level of self-direction, personal initiative and commitment necessary to progress ideas and find solutions, and the practical, theoretical and technical comprehension, appreciation, knowledge and proficiency necessary to achieve identified goals. The ability to plan and organise work within a given timeframe and the efficient production of outcomes both individually and collaboratively.

This will involve paperwork such as storyboards, location recce and scripts. From this planning I will have a template and solid plan to begin my production. I can use my own camera for this task, and either employ small LED lights or natural lighting. As I am planning to shoot on location I will be using the natural lighting and can also have equipment such as a Steadicam to ensure my shots are smooth and cinematic. As I have planned for my work to be in a documentary style, I will produce my own script but also interview others on my topic. I will edit my work in AVID, and use editing techniques such as colour grading to guarantee my project looks as professional and filmic as possible.

Pre-Production

Produce Pre-Production Portfolio which will formally define your project (location survey; risk assessment; treatment; script; budget; schedule etc.).

Pitch your proposal to the production board (video recording of your production board presentation)

Analyse your target audience. Investigate the target demographic and record the type of media or entertainment they consume
