Flat plans. I chose to layout the front cover for my magazine in this style so that it is clearly and orderly set out so that you can easily see the important news and articles and so that the all school children from year 7-13 can read it without getting confused.

The contents page follows the same type of layout as the front cover so that the magazine has a clear layout and plan and the contents page is also very ordered so the target audience can quickly skip to the articles that they want to.

The range of colours I have shown here are in fitting with the school colours so the school theme runs throughout the magazine. The font styles look professional but also simple to read. The range of pictures shown are of a medium close up camera angle which is perfect for the front cover of the magazine because you can see the subject very easily helping to gain an understanding of what the article is about easily.

Although this photo is a medium close up the problem is that it is not a very professional shot to be put into the school magazine and may not appeal to the students parents so I did not include this image.

This is a smart sharp image that is a medium close up and is perfect for the front cover as it shows the person being talked about in the article and the school crest is in the background.

This is a good shot and I could easily have used this as my main image on the front cover but felt the colours weren't as vibrant as the image I used in the end.

This shot of the sixth form is perfect for the back of the contents page just to show the sixth form in all its glory.

This picture of Mr.Hickey is great to put on the contents page next to the head teachers note so this image goes well with the text.

I did not use this picture as it shows too much of his body to be a medium close up.

Evaluation of technology used

To really make the image pop I changed the brightness and vibrancy of the colours on Photoshop and also used the brush tool to take off blemishes and spots to make the face look smoother. I also took off the out of place hair to the left of the hair and then blended the skin in with this patch so that it looks like it was always like that. Overall I consider the Photoshop image to be a success because now the image looks more polished and professional.

This is the original image the image is dull in colour and the face looks tired with a hair out of place. And the skin has a few spots and unwanted things showing.

Conclusion

In conclusion the medium close up image on the front page is effective to draw people into reading the magazine and the pictures on the contents page that go with the articles are also effective because they link helping the reader to build a better picture in their head of the article. I also like the colour scheme that I have used because it is in keeping with the school colours which helps keep the link between the school and the magazine.

However looking at my magazine now the layout is perhaps too simple and too structured which will make it less appealing to the school children so in my main task I will be sure to change the layout and make sure I lay my magazine out in the style that will appeal to the target audience in order for the magazine to be more popular and sell well. The articles themselves are good but perhaps not the most interesting so in my main task I need to try and make the articles more interesting and funny.
