INFO ON THE JAZZ WEEKEND

www.nantwichjazz.com

The festival is now in its 21st year and the 2017 line-up is stronger than ever, says Phillip Martin Festival Organiser. 2017 sees the return of some old favourites we haven’t seen for a while. Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band open the Festival on the Thursday at Nantwich Civic Hall. An excellent show for those who love to dance. We’re also very pleased to welcome Ruby Turner back to The Festival on Saturday at The Civic. We’re really excited to see her as in the past her touring schedule with Jools Holland has kept her busy .

Following the success of our Blues Triple Bill last year we’re doing it again on Friday 14th April. Glasgow based King King, Blues Award winning Rebecca Downes and Emma & The Wolf take to Nantwich Civic stage for a packed show. The Crown Hotel hosts Connie Lush on Friday 14th, a Festival regular with an amazingly powerful voice who always fills The Crown Ballroom. The fabulous Mike Sanchez and his band are with us on Easter Sunday 16th April. Bringing his fantastic Rock & Roll Boogie Woogie piano style to The Civic this one is another night for the dancers ! New to The festival we’re looking forward to welcoming him.

On Easter Monday there are 3 ticketed events. In the afternoon St Mary’s Church will see the fabulous Elaine Delmar singing some smooth Jazz and Nearly Dan perform at The Studio at 5pm, this one is becoming an annual event. They’re fantastic and they’re frantic. Eighties hitmakers The Beat bring things to a close

on Monday night at Nantwich Civic. Around the town proceedings will get under way on Thursday evening with well over 140 wristband admission gigs anticipated over the Easter Weekend. We can announce that “pop-up” The Bank Stage next to The Studio venue will be in action again in 2017. Admission by wristband it will feature a continuous gig programme throughout both days.

The stage on Nantwich Square will be in action throughout the weekend kindly sponsored by Nantwich Town Council. On Saturday Zoot Serious & The Bellyful of Bop will be performing, with live music programmes for Sunday & Monday being planned.

Not quite at The Festival, for the third year on the run we bring 80’s AOR band FM to Nantwich Civic Hall on Saturday May 6th. Featuring local guitar hero Jim Kirkpatrick, they have given two fabulous sell-out performances in 2014 and 2015. Tickets are already selling well and we look forward to seeing them once again.

This year The Festival will be ‘appified’ see page 22 for more details.

The Festival looks forward to seeing everyone in 2017.

Today, Geno Washington and his Ram Jam Band are as vital as ever when it comes to rocking the house. The ultimate showman and his super-tight band will fill any dance floor from the moment he steps out and keep it heaving into the early hours.

Ruby Turner was born in Jamaica and grew up in Montego Bay. On 4 June 2012 Ruby performed ‘You Are So Beautiful’ with Jools Holland at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert outside Buckingham Palace in London. In autumn 2012 Ruby was a guest judge on BBC ‘The Choir: Sing While You Work with choirmaster Gareth Malone’ and in 2013 Ruby was a guest judge on BBC ‘Songs of praise gospel choirs competition.

Take some extract of Little Richard, essence of Jerry Lee Lewis, place it in the cooking pot… and stir in the rich, gravy tones of Ruth Brown. Then add a sprinkling of Roy Milton, topping the whole lot off with a generous shot of Larry Williams. What have you got? I’ll tell you. It’s the hottest rhythm and blues groove this side of Kansas City. And you’d better believe it.
