Connectivity Solutions for Distributed Antenna SystemsFiber Panels
Fiber Termination Panels with Rapid Fiber
Rapid Fiber technology is an important innovation in the fiber optic panel market. Serving as a key distribution point between the DAS Host and the Remote Hubs, the Rapid Fiber panel offers service providers unmatched savings in installation time, labor costs and performance.
The Rapid Fiber panel employs TE's unique RapidReel payout spool to deploy 12 Fiber Micro cable—which means the intrafacility cable (IFC) cable is always the right length. Available in 100' increments (up to 1000'), the multifiber cable terminates to a multi-fiber push-on connector (MPO), which enables a plug-and-play connection to the Remote Hub location. The MPO connector and multi-fiber cable ensure fast cable routing and easy handling by technicians; and offers maximum space savings for high density fiber applications.
The Rapid Fiber panel's combination of microcable, RapidReel spool and MPO connector technology in a single panel not only relieves cable congestion but also simplifies the ordering and inventory of equipment. The panel also features TE's industry-leading cable management—providing bend radius protection, cable routing paths and physical protection for optimal network performance.
The Rapid Fiber panel incorporates the latest panel, cable and connector technology—and can help drive down total cost of installation by as much as 25%.

FPX Series Rack Mount Fiber Panels
The FPX series provides industry-leading fiber cable protection and management in a modular footprint. The panel utilizes an internal splicing system that creates a compact, feature-rich, high-density solution. FPX achieves densities of 24-fiber terminations/splices in 1 RU (1.75") using SC connectors. These densities are attained while utilizing TE’s angled adapters to ease cable access, protect bend radius and provide individual fiber access. Field-installable vertical cable guides on either side of the panel allow for managed routing and protection of the fiber entering and exiting the panel.
Panels are available with preterminated pigtails, adapters only, or with MPO adapters packs. The MPO adapter packs utilize an MPO interface, and makes it a great match with the rapid panel, or flexible fiber box.
FEATURES• MPO adapter packs which eliminates the
need for on-site fiber terminations or splicing, thus reducing overall deployment time
• Sold separately for maximum flexibility with minimum lead time, FPX adapter packs can also be pre-configured at the factory for more efficient service turn-up
• Rear access makes field termination or splicing fast and efficient. 1 RU and 2 RU versions feature convenient sliding access to terminations and splicing.
• FPX panels combine the unique features of
vertical cable guides and angle-left/angle-right adapters, offering bend radius protection, intuitive routing and easy connector access
• Adjustable mounting brackets provide either 19- or 23-inch rack or cabinet mounting (EIA or WECO) as well as 4- or 5-inch recess mounting

Gator Splice Closure
The Gator splice closure is a small butt splice closure primarily designed for splicing two loose tube “flat drop” style cables of 1 to 12 fibers in above grade, below grade, and direct buried applications. This splice closure uses TE Connectivity’s well accepted gel sealing technology to create a sealed closure system that will fit into confined areas such as small “flowerpot” style handholes. The Gator splice closure incorporates our unique cable hold down and strength member termination features and is capable of holding either fusion or mechanical splices. Simple closing of the lid and base creates a sealed closure system. No separate grommets, mixing of chemicals or tools are required. Tone wires can also be terminated outside of the closure using the included hardware.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS• Compatible with most flat drop cable type
• Accommodates up to 12 single fibers, 12 ribbonized fibers, or one 12 fiber ribbon
• Gel sealing
• Toning wire hardware included
• Small size: 7.5" x 5.8" x 1.2" thick
• Two mounting tabs are integrated into the closure base to allow easy mounting
• Re-enterable but not re-usable

Patch Cords
SINGLEMODE PATCH CORDS (SIMPLEX AND DUPLEX)All patch cords undergo stringent testing for both insertion loss and return loss at the factory before shipment to ensure that only quality product is delivered to the customer.
TE offers ultra physical contact (UPC) polish on the SC, FC, and LC connector styles.
Angled polish is available on the LC connector and the SC connector styles. Angled polish should be used in applications that require better control of return loss. TE has tight tolerances regarding the rotation of the ferrule to maintain low insertion loss values.
ORDERING EXAMPLESFPC2-SPSC-10M: Singlemode 2.0 mm dual zip patch cord with SC ultra polish connectors on both ends,
10 meters in length with standard breakout length of 0.31 m (12") on both ends.
1 For hybrid patch cords, enter both connector types in this field and separate them with a slash mark; remove 's' from the ultra polish option.
FPCF-SPSC/PLC-S-10M: Singlemode 1.7 mm simplex patch cord with SC ultra polish connector on one end and LC ultra polish connector on the other end, 10 meters in length.
2 One connector per end; requires dual zip cable

IFC Assembly
Intrafacility Fiber Cable (IFC) Assemblies
STRANDED IFC ASSEMBLIESIntrafacility fiber cable (IFC) is a multifiber cable designed for use within a building. Generally, it will be constructed without metallic strength members and is designed to meet the fire resistant characteristics required in the central office. The number of fibers range from 12 to 144. Standard IFC assemblies are riser rated and meet UL-1666 OFNR. Two types of IFC are available: stranded and ribbon.
With stranded cable, individual 900 µm fibers make up the construction of the cable. The fibers are bundled into subunits of 6- or 12-fibers each. Each subunit is identified and the individual fibers within the subunits are color-coded. Stranded IFC diameters increase in proportion with the fiber counts.

FlexWave Prism Fiber Multiplexing Options - WDM
When it is desirable or necessary to combine transmit and receive path optical signals from one Prism system onto a single optical fiber, use the Wavelength Division Multiplexer (WDM) system, which is an accessory product. Each WDM system consists of a Host and a Prism Remote Unit (PRU). At the Host and PRU, a WDM chassis contains the WDM modules. Both the Host WDM Module and the PRU WDM Module consist of a bi-directional wavelength division multiplexer, as shown below.
To create a FlexWave Prism Wavelength Division Multiplexer (WDM) system, the following components are required:
• Standard 26 dB Optics (Small Form Pluggable laser) 1550 nm at Host; 1310 nm at Remote• Host WDM Chassis to house eight (8) WDM modules• Host WDM module(s)• Remote OADM fiber cable assembly

The Host WDM module is mounted within a sheet metal enclosure. A straight LC-type optical connector port is provided for connecting the transmit/receive path optical fiber to the WDM module. A pair of fiber patch cord leads with LC-type connectors connects the WDM module to the TX/RX Optical ports on the Prism Host SeRF II card. Below shows the WDM Host Module Mounting Shelf and Host Module.

Each WDM module supports a single Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) port on the Host, but a WDM chassis can support up to eight WDM modules, which allows the sharing of the WDM chassis among multiple Hosts, dependent on the SFP port counts and system configuration. That is, the eight WDM modules allow a fully loaded Host with eight SFP modules or multiple partially loaded Hosts (for a maximum of eight total SFPs). The WDM Host module-mounting shelf installs in the equipment rack with the Host .

FlexWave Prism Fiber Multiplexing Options - CWDM
When it is desirable or necessary to combine multiple transmit and receive path optical signals from one Prism system to a single pair of optical fibers, use the Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexer (CWDM) system, which is an accessory product. Each CWDM system consists of a Host and a Prism Remote Unit (PRU). At the Host and PRU, a CWDM chassis contains the CWDM 8 channel Muxtiplexer/Demultiplexer (Mux/DeMux) modules and at the Remote you will need an Optical Add Drop Multiplexer (OADM) Splice Box and OADM cable assembly.
To create a FlexWave Prism Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexer (CWDM) system, the following components are required:
• Host & Remote wavelength specific CWDM Optics/SFP (Small Form Pluggable laser) • Host CWDM Chassis to house the 8 Channel CWDM module• Host CWDM 8 channel module• Remote OADM splice box• Remote OADM assembly

Host CWDM Multiplexer/DeMultiplexer Unit
The CWDM Multiplexer/DeMultiplexer (Mux/DeMux) connects to the Prism Host and performs the following functions:
CWDM Optical Add Drop Multiplexer (OADM) Module
The CWDM OADM Assembly is used when it is desirable or necessary to combine the forward path or reverse path optical signals onto a single optical fiber. The CWDM OADM Assembly is installed into the OADM Splice Box, is wavelength dependent, and consists of Add and Drop modules of specific wavelengths. The CWDM OADM has fiber optic pigtails for splicing into OSP fiber and ProAx or pigtail from the Prism Remote. See figure below of OADM Assembly:
– In the Transmit (Tx) path, the Mux/DeMux Unit provides eight (8) Tx channels from the Host unit and multiplexes up to eight (8) channels into a single fiber
– In the Reverse (Rx) path, the Mux/DeMux Unit separates up to eight wavelengths
The CWDM Mux/DeMux unit uses industry standard LC optical connections.

The maximum length of the optical links is dependent on the loss specifications of the optical fiber and the losses imposed by the various connectors and splices. The system provides an optical budget of 26 dB (typical) when used with 9/125 single-mode fiber. There must be at least 10 dB of optical loss to prevent over-driving and possible damage to the optical receiver.
The optical wavelengths used in the Prism CWDM system are 1471nm, 1491nm, 1511nm, 1531nm, 1551nm, 1571nm, 1591nm and 1611nm. The OADM assembly is installed in the OADM Splice Box which typically resides above or below the Prism unit on a pole or wall; while the Host is connected to a Mux/DeMux that multiplexes the different wavelengths from the transceivers onto a single fiber in the Forward path and de-multiplexes the wavelengths from the Remotes into their respective wavelengths. At the Host there is a CWDM chassis that contains the CWDM Mux/DeMux Units, and at the Remote the CWDM is spliced to the OSP fiber and HMFOC/MPO 8 Fiber cable or Pigtail from the Remote.
Below shows how the CWDM Mux/DeMux unit and the CWDM OADM Assembly multiplex and demultiplex wavelengths in a non-redundant configuration:

Powering
The CWDM Fiber Cable Assembly and the Mux/DeMux are passive and do not require powering.
VAM Chassis
Coarse wavelength division multiplexer (CWDM) modules allow for the addition of eight additional signals to be transmitted over a single fiber. This is done by dividing the 1550 nm window into eight 20 nm spaced channels. CWDM electronics require the use of more precise and expensive lasers, but this cost can often be justified by the avoidance of costs associated with installing new fiber cables.
TE’s WideVAM® family of products allows for an efficient integration of optical components into the optical distribution frame. WideVAM chassis are available for industry standard 19- or 23-inch optical distribution frames. The WideVAM chassis provides the utmost protection, modularity and flexibility for all optical component needs.
The Prism CWDM system works with TE’s 7- and 3.5-inch industry-standard WideVAM chassis to ensure consistent, superior cable management within the frame.

Attenuators
IN-LINE ATTENUATORSA fiber optic attenuator is an optical device that induces a calibrated fixed loss between two connectors, which dampens, or attenuates the fiber optic signal. Attenuation is required if an optical signal has too much power, exceeding the operating range of the equipment, which causes saturation at the receiver and induces system errors or failures.
