Vacation Bible School for Adults July 28 - 30, 2019 Whether one is a Stephen minister, a teacher or student of Disciple Bible Study, a childrens Sunday school teacher, a VBS worker or whatever . . . whenever we finish one task, there is another waiting for us. The Christian life often captures us by its beauty and grace. If it does not, then we as Christians are either a bored or boring follower. We need the fire of the spirit to continue to do those routine but important tasks that Christ has called us to do. The idea of replenishing or re-charging the old spiritual batteries—a well-worn chestnut of old timey preachers—is one way to look at Bible study. Scripture keeps our focus on the story of our faith and consequently our life. We are all looking for ways to connect to God and deepen our journey of faith. Scripture helps us relate our lives to lives of people who have wrestled with God and struggled with what it means to be a faithful and righteous person—quite a difficult task as we all know. A great temptation for church people is boredom with the hard and often disappointing work of discipleship. Boredom is the most seductive enemy of the Christian life. This is because many of the most important things we do are routine. We do them over and over. And significantly, when we study the Bible, it is never like any other kind of studying that we do. Scripture is too deep and too important for us to ever master. Not only that, but we learn a lot from studying with others on our journey. I have never heard anyone say that he/she knows scripture well enough. Our learning with others is always a growing and evolving encounter. Paul writes: Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known” (1 Cor. 13:12). This summer we will explore the Prophet Isaiah for our Vacation Bible School for Adults. During the week of July 28-30, we will investigate Isaiah on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday evenings. On Sunday we will have our July fellowship meal at 5:00 pm. From 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm we will have our study in the Worship Center. Isaiah is one of the great prophetic writings in our Bible. Come and study Isaiah together this summer! Questions? Call the church office—254-947-5482. Sincerely, your friend, David N. Mosser Come to the July Fellowship Meal July 28th at 5 pm, stay for Adult VBS starting at 6 pm!
