In an effort to make the Marymount Library a safer and more comfortable environment, the Library has implemented a new sign-in policy. This policy states that any student or library patron entering after 9 p.m. must show proper photo identification. All patrons who do not possess a student ID will be asked to show another form of photo identification. All patrons who do not have borrower accounts must sign in using the Sign-In Log. Questions? Contact the Office of the Dean, Zary Mostashari, 703-284-1673 or email [email protected].
National Library Week 2011 at Reinsch Library
National Library Week (NLW) is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. This year’s theme was “Create your own story @ Your Library”. Library & Learning Services hosted two events during this year’s NLW. The first was the annual Great Big Book Giveaway, in which faculty, staff, and students donated books, CDs, DVDs, tapes, etc., and we gave them all away! During NLW, all library patrons were invited to stop by the library, sift through the collection and take whatever they wanted! We also hosted our annual poster contest. Marymount graphic design students were asked to create a poster depicting this year’s theme. The four entries were then placed in the library to be voted on by you! Thank you to the following students who participated in this year’s poster contest: Thelma Andree, Cathy Dalil, Alexis Davis, Jessica Ghazi, Cassandra Hoegg, Brooks O’Brien, Chris Rukes, Regina Spatarella, and Thiha Soe (Kay). The image to the right is the poster you chose. Congratulations to Alexis Davis, Regina Spatarella, and Thiha Soe (Kay) for their creative and artistic design.

Extended Hours for Finals
In an effort to help you prepare for your final
exams, the Reinsch library is currently operating
under extended hours. The dates and times vary
so for the most accurate information about our
operating hours, please visit our website.
Don’t forget about the library’s group study
rooms, quiet reading rooms, one-on-one tutoring
in the LRC, and of course your late-night caffeine
fix, found conveniently at Overdue Brew Coffee
Bar. Good luck as you finish up the semester!

LRC Facts: By the Numbers
From the start of classes last fall until spring break, Marymount students have come to the LRC for 116 hours of chemistry tutoring, 370 hours of math tutoring, and 398 hours of writing assistance. Combined, that’s enough time to walk from Washington, D.C. to Las Vegas and back (at an average speed of 3.4-3.5 mi/hr)! 178 students have attended Supplemental Instruction group study sessions for CHM 125 and 152, BIO 151, and MA 094, 132, 171, 172, and 181. That’s enough students to field about 11 Marymount basketball teams! Students and tutors consumed 108 bags of popcorn, 148 cups of hot chocolate, and 168 pots of coffee. That’s enough coffee to serve every member of Congress 2.6 cups!
Want to learn more about the LRC or find out how you can contribute to the numbers? Visit www.marymount.edu/academics/lls/lrc.
The library is constantly adding new titles to our
collection. Here are some titles we purchased in the
spring of 2011!

Library Staff Spotlight - Friendly faces at the library!

Kyle Vaughan is the Circulation Team's new Circulation Manager. He has been at the Reinsch Library since 2000 and, as an Access Services Associate, has served in many different roles, including Interlibrary Loan Manager.
As the Circulation Manager, he manages the Circulation Team, makes sure it is properly staffed, and contacts you about your lost books. Kyle graduated from Radford University with a degree in political science. He enjoys reading and listening to music. Kyle says, "Any questions about your lost books, come talk to me!" Ebonique Harrison is the new Circulation Evening Manager and Emergency Staff member--late at night or when there are five inches of snow on the ground, Ebonique will be here. She started at Marymount in September 2010, and came to us
from Chesterfield County Public Library. She graduated from Norfolk State University with a BS in Mass Communications. When Ebonique is not working, she enjoys reading and traveling. She is excited to be able to provide outstanding services to students and the University community.

When you come to the Circulation Desk, be prepared to
tell the circulation staff what you are looking for:
if the item is a course reserve (for your class), you should be able to give staff the name and number of the class and the professor’s name;
if the book is an undergraduate textbook you should know the title and call number before you ask;
and if the book or video is a permanent reserve (nursing texts for example) you should know the call number and designation.
This information is now clearly identified in the
ALADIN catalog when you search for the book or
reserve list online. There’s also a pick list at the desk that
lists course reserves and textbook reserves. Ask for
information about locating a reserve book to make this
process easier next time.
