REGIONAL FLOCK GATHERS

The SouthEastern KFC Franchisees Association meeting was held November 10th thru 12th in Atlanta, GA at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel.

SEKFCFA is the largest regional association in the U.S. with a membership of approximately 150 franchisees. These franchisees represent over 1000 KFC's from 10 states: Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

Joe Kendall, JRN Operations Controller said, “It was a good meeting. We got to meet Gregg Dedrick (new KFC President) & Scott Bergen. Scott is the Marketing guy. We saw the new menuboard and new commercials.”

SIMPSONVILLE, SC CELEBRATES

CUSTOMERMANIA Tim Rook

The team at the KFC in Simpsonville, SC are true 100% Customer Maniacs, and have fun doing it! On October 7, they blew away their customers with hospitality, service and fun. I visited the store and was amazed!

RGM Kathy Nations is a real customer maniac who dressed up her store like never before. An employee in a chicken suit waved to every passing car and waved in customers- and everyone in town was honking their horn as they passed KFC. As customers walked from their cars to the restaurant they noticed on the Reader Board a "free Kid's Birthday party" was being given away that day (by a coloring contest).

As customers entered the restaurant, the door was opened by a greeter who welcomed them to their KFC. The greeter informed each customer to take a free spin at the prize wheel where they could win a free dessert, drink, crispy strip, wedges, or BBQ sandwich. (Most people were saying "What? For real? NEWS FROM THE TRENCHES HARRY IS A 100 AGAIN Rodney - I was in Tallahassee looking at the

express opening at FAMU. I stopped and saw Chuck in the AM - sales are up and CER is gold. Life is Good at Paul Russell!

I stopped at N. Monroe to get some lunch about 2:30 and ordered a Colonel's Crispy Strips combo. I had a 100% Champs experience with Hot N Fresh Strips, good wedges, all packed properly with hospitable service with speed. Harry was at the window doing a cash audit so I said hi! Harry told me he had 5 straight 100's, so life is good at N. Monroe too! I wanted to make sure that Harry knows how much I appreciate his hard work. (Harry Milligan is RGM at N. Monroe, Tallahassee, FL.)

Thanks! Tim Rook, Franchise Team Coach

Lastly, the team continues to excel in CHAMPS too with a 98 average this quarter.

Chuck's awesome team had a team celebration to recognize all their top performers during their November safety meeting. Join me in cheering this great team on to new heights!

Congratulations to David Jones, Area Manager, Chuck Brown, RGM and Dona Keyes, AUM.

In the files of the recently purchased Smyrna, TN KFC, was a 1980 issue of The Bucket. In it was an article about JRN Regional Manager Jack Hager, then Area Supervisor. Jack had discovered an envelope with $260 cash in the Lynchburg KFC parking lot.

"I was supposed to meet some folks in the parking lot that morning, and while I was waiting I started picking up trash in the lot," Jack said at the time. "There was this envelope of money up against the curb with no identification on it except the bank's name. So, I went in the store and called the bank to report finding the money. I really didn't think much more about it till I heard from the lady who lost it."

The customer, trying to retrace her steps when she realized the money was missing, called the bank which let her know Jack had reported it. She wrote praising Jack’s honesty, “It is refreshing to meet someone that young who is so responsible and will go this length to do a good deed.”

JRN already knew he was a keeper.

IS THIS AN HONEST FACE?

JRN Benefits Announces "TWO New" Changes for 2004

The year 2004 brings two new exciting changes to the total benefits program that is offered to all eligible employees. For the first time, you will have a choice to choose from two different Major Medical Health plans offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee. Plan A is the same great plan that you are currently enrolled in. Plan B offers a higher deductible along with higher co-payments which helps lower your cost of health insurance. This new option lets you select the coverage that best suits your needs and pocketbook.

The second new change is the opportunity for qualified applicants to purchase through payroll deductions a Cancer Supplemental Policy. The Cancer Ultimate III is designed to help pay both the medical and non-medical expenses related to the treatment of Cancer. These policies are underwritten by Life Insurance Co. of Alabama, the current carrier for our Dental Insurance. These policies are loaded with benefits and you will have a choice of two different plan designs.

Information regarding both these new changes will be arriving in the stores the first week of December. All applications are due back to payroll by December 22, 2003 via facsimile.

Please feel free to give either Eddie Kerr or Jenny Robertson a call at Mid State Insurance with any questions you may have concerning the coverages or changes to the program. Our direct number is 1-800-903-4065.

FOOD FEEDBACK To: Kentucky Fried Chicken

I don't ask much from a fast-food restaurant: just fresh food, a quick turnaround, and competent, friendly service. Sometimes, to my delight, the experience exceeds my expectations. I'm writing about such an experience with the consistent quality at one of your restaurants, located at Old Fort Parkway in Murfreesboro, TN.

Your location in Murfreesboro, TN on Old Fort Pkwy. is one of the best KFCs that I have ever been to. The food is always hot. I always order the boneless BBQ wings and, every time I order them, the fine people give me a couple extra and always treat me with the utmost respect. The wings that I get from this particular location always seem to be bigger than your competitors also. Keep up the good work. I think you should do something to reward these folks.

Michael D. Stevenhagen Please pass along this compliment to

everyone who should see it. And keep up the good work! This message was posted on the Planetfeedback

website.

I would like to thank the managers and the team members of Vann Dr. Jackson, TN for the Triple Crown that they received in September.

SIMPSONVILLE CELEBRATES (Customermania, continued from page 1

Submitted by Tim Rook for Kathy Nations -RGM -Simpsonville, SC)

After the eat-in customer placed their order, a hostess poured their drink and helped them to their table. The customers noticed something different in the dining room -tablecloths on each table with a glass vase holding a real red rose at each table!

The customers also noticed the coloring contest entries for the free birthday party that the kids had colored which were now displayed around the dining room.

The food (including the free spin item) was quickly delivered to the customer, and the hostess made sure all the napkins and condiments needed were present. The hostess also came around with a basket of free biscuits and offered each customer a biscuit.

Just when the customers were feeling great about KFC, the chicken would come back in and have some fun with them. The chicken had on a sign that said "Kiss the chicken and get an apple turnover". They also got their picture taken kissing the chicken! (Kathy will get extra mileage when she displays all those pictures of people who dared to kiss the chicken!) I have never seen so many happy laughing customers having such a good time in any KFC! The employees loved it and the customers loved it because everyone was happy -it was like "we were having a party at our house -come on in"! AUM Shannon told me she saw many of her regular customers and they all left smiling.

As if that wasn't enough -when the night shift came on, an employee who specializes in face painting and balloon animals came on duty and delighted every kid that came in. It was great!

What was even better -sales were up 12% versus last year for the day!

Simpsonville, SC is KFC J718181. Kathy Nations runs a great restaurant- 97% CER just 3 weeks ago and 96.3% Champs average for the year. She has driven sales to almost $1.2 million this year in a small trade area of less than 101,000 people. She has been with KFC over 20 years including KFCC operations, and franchisee now with JRN. She has been the Training coach for many new hires in the Greenville, SC market and is the leading moneymaker in her volume band for JRN.

When we talk about "show me a great store, and I will show you a great RGM" then Kathy's picture should be right there!

Tim Rook, Franchise Team Coach -KFC Southeast

Simpsonville KFC Greeter stands by the “Wheel of Food Fortune” which customers spun for free edible prizes, such as drinks, deserts or BBQ sandwiches.

People (and chicken) line up for the special personal service being offered that day. (The chicken was

probably there to feather her nest.)

Tim Rook (left) and Rodney Shaw (right) kiss the chicken (center) which earns them a free apple

turnover. Of course, kissing the chicken is its own reward.

FLYING COLORS IN GREENVILLE, SC

Some great things are happening in Greenville.

I just wanted to say thanks to some people who have made things happen in their restaurants.

We had all our CER’s done on a week end and still got some great results. White Horse Rd. earned a 92% during a Saturday lunch rush. Thanks to RGM Drucilla Goodman and her management staff of Ann Morrow, Krystal Monroe and Tee Davis for a great job.

Laurens Rd. was done on Saturday also, an earned a 94%. This was a great effort by the entire team of RGM Jerry Coleman, Linda Durham, Valerie Johnson, and Stephanie Jones.

Lastly, Simpsonville had theirs Sunday afternoon and scored a 97%. This was another super result from the super team of RGM Kathy Nations, Shannon Sutherland, Dawn Hughes, Joy Auvil and Rebecca Ellis.

During the months of August and September we had three Triple Crowns achieved. I’m very proud of the teams in Laurens Rd., Simpsonville and Travelers Rest with RGM Kenny Cannon, Annie Perry, Virginia Johnson, Linda Holland and Denise Shelton. Travelers reached 5 in a row and Simpsonville is at 5 in a row and counting. Thanks to all for being customer maniacs.

Also, during October, we had three restaurants reach the million dollar mark for the year. Congratulations to White Horse Rd., Travelers Rest and Simpsonville. I don’t know who my big dog is going to be!!!!!!

I would also like to recognize my new team in Mauldin, RGM, Carmine Morry, Bobby Coleman, Janice Clasby and Linda Jones, for all the hard work and the great results they are starting to get in that restaurant.

Frank Frattarelli, Area Manager

On Halloween night, in Columbia, TN, the Colonel wasn't just at KFC. The employees of Holland Pharmacy in Columbia, TN were all decked out for Halloween.

When Mrs. Neal visited the pharmacy, the employees decided that their pharmacist, Walter Holland, should dress up as Colonel Sanders, as he had the year before. The employees called JRN to let us know he was dressed up and we went down, with our props, to get his picture.

That chicken must have been "finger lickin’ good". But Mr. Holland wasn’t too fond of our floppy chicken. (Is that where the boneless wings come from? They’re good!– Allen)

MADISON’S NEW HEIGHTS Hey, just to wanted to say we made Triple

If it was not for all of them and working as a team we wouldn’t have made it happen!!!!!!! So, great job and we are working on number 3 for our great boss Tony Bridges. He has been real good to us here at Madison Heights store #155. Thanks for everything...

Also just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving and hope everyone has a nice Christmas, and be safe.

These are Halloween pictures of the

Assistant and Manager’s kids on Halloween. Pictured as a fairy is Shawna Vance, age 2. And pictured as Spiderman is Alex Vance, age 3, son of Shawn Vance. Shawn is the Assistant in the Richlands, VA store. Also pictured, as a Power Ranger, is Chandler Honaker, age 5. Strawberry Shortcake is Tiffany Triplett, 5 ½. They are the daughter and stepson of Tomilya Honaker who is the daughter of Claudette Arms, the RGM in Richlands, VA.

Tomilya has also worked as a cashier in Richlands, VA for 5 ½ months. It is ironic that Claudette started at KFC when Tomilya was 5 years old and Strawberry Shortcake was her favorite character. And now, at 5, this is her daughter’s favorite character. Tiffany is identical to her mom at age 5 and makes a great Strawberry Shortcake. She just celebrated her birthday this month with a Strawberry Shortcake party.
