  • Making your Will can seem adaunting task but it need not be.There are some points to consider however and common errorscan be avoided if you are aware ofthem.

Make sure that you use your full andcorrect name. Your passport mayrecord your given name eg. John JamesSmith, but if you are commonly calledJim you may use this inadvertently. Thiscould cause problems in the futurewhen proving your Will after death.Similarly, you may have assets registeredin the name of Jim and it would beadvisable to refer to the fact that youare also known as Jim so that theassets can be identified as yours. Beneficiaries names should also berecorded as shown in their passports asthey may have to prove who they are. When leaving a gift to a child consider providing for it to be paid totheir parent or guardian so that theExecutors do not have to retain thefunds until the beneficiary reaches theage you have chosen. Any personal items that you wish toleave should be easily identifiable. If youhave two diamond rings, make sure it isclear which one you are referring to.Sometimes it is useful to take photographs and write the name of theperson you are leaving the item to onthe back. Do not get anyone mentioned in yourWill to be a witness when you sign. TheWill may not be invalid but the gift to thatperson will fail. Make sure you do not inadvertentlyduplicate gifts. If the same gift is in bothhusband and wifes Wills before themain part of the estate passes to the

survivor then the gift will be made whenthe first one dies and then again whenthe survivor dies. This may not be yourintention. Consider whether you would wantthe children of any of your beneficiariesto inherit if their parent were to diebefore you. The gift will pass to the beneficiarys children unless you statethat you would not want this to happen.

It is always safest to consult a professional when making your Will asthey will automatically take the finerpoints into consideration and make surethat you wishes are recorded correctly.

  • Local Neighbourhood Watch coordinator Rod Ashford fromLower Kingswood has recently wonThe Award for the most significant contribution by a NeighbourhoodWatch member in Surrey.

Rod and his wife Sandra were invitedto a special ceremony at Surrey PoliceHeadquarters Mount Browne whereRod was presented with the award byDeputy Chief Constable Nick Ephgrave

Rod was nominated by members ofhis local community in recognition ofthe time and effort he puts intoNeighbourhood Watch and keepingthem informed about local issues. Forthose vulnerable residents who do nothave access to email and text messages, Rod has made it his responsibility to visit them personally tokeep them up to date.

Rod became involved inNeighbourhood Watch in 2009, he says,"Taking over wasn't an instant decision.I've never lived in a street with aNeighbourhood Watch before and wasquite dubious about its value andwhether it was really just an excuse fornosey neighbours and curtain twitchers."

While he was still deciding whether toget involved, an event pretty muchmade up his mind for him. Rod explains"A young woman knocked at severalhouses in my street asking to borrowmoney. I recognised her as someone I

had seen steal a purse in Reigate a fewmonths before. One elderly couple invited her in for tea and gave her 10.However, a few days later, neighbourssaw the woman trying to break into thecouple's home. It seemed to me that ifthe couple had known about thepotential consequences of their kindness, they could have made amore informed decision about invitingthe woman into their home. I am now afirm believer in the value of theNeighbourhood Watch scheme."

Chairman of the SurreyNeighbourhood Watch AssociationRodney Amor said Rod is a clear example of the kind of individual, thatthis award is designed to honour.

  • Bumpy ride this morning? Viewblocked by dumped rubbish?Potholes and fly tipping are justtwo of the street faults that can be

    reported via the website

    www.FixMyStreet.com, along with

    vandalism, graffiti, dog fouling and

    many other common community issues.

While most of us know that the

council are responsible for fixing these

things, we may not know which council,

let along which department in which

council. With FixMyStreet, all you have

to do is locate the problem on a map,

and select a category: the site then

sends it off to the right place to get it

    fixed.

All reports are published on the site, as

well as being sent to the council.

Browsing your own postcode can be

interesting, as you soon learn what the

persistent problems are in your area,

and whether or not they are being

fixed. There's also the opportunity to

    discuss individual reports in the

    comments section.

    FixMyStreet comes from the UK

    not-for-profit organisation mySociety,

and is one of its longest-running and

most-used services. It is just one of

several projects aimed at making it

easier for citizens to get things changed

in their own community. So, next time

you see something that needs fixing, be

it a broken paving slab or a flickering

streetlight, all you need to remember is

    FixMyStreet.com.

Every year people starta fresh, which is greatbut not many canstick to it. Usually becausethe goal set is too big, or

what they have chosen doesnt fit theirlife style.

Think about what you really want fromyour body? Its not about looking a certain way, its about how you feel.Health is an all round package. If younot happy with something write downwhy and write down ways around it.Then, pick a way thatfits best for your lifestyle.

You are more likely tofollow the changes youhave added to your lifeif they have been written down andplanned. You dontneed to start going overthe top and set goalsfor exercises, sets, reps, rest, meals, andcalorie intake. You should build yourbody according to your lifestyle. Weightloss takes time and this usually is every-ones plan in the New Year. Making sureyou have things in place to help youstraight away. You could look at localgyms, look for running and walking groups near you, find out what fitness classes you like thesound of and enquire about them andtry and rally up friends to join you in withhelping you achieve your goals. I recommend using the 1st of January toset and write your new goals, as this canactually be a hard day to start.

Start small, workout the main thingthat is affecting you and add to it overtime. Think about setting dates for simple goals and also amounts of timeyou might want to be exercising for. Sofor example try to set one goal to add intwo more sessions of exercise of 45 minutes a week and not to eat takealways more than once a week. Whenyou are able to achieve that you addanother target. For example adding 4-5portions of vegetables a day to yourdiet and doing exercise at the weekend

as well as during theweek. If your target isactually to add to yourbody in weight andmuscle, maybe look atmeasuring the circum-ference of the bodypart you wish tochange.

Never just set onegoal, as in life we have many and if youfind yourself having difficulty with a certain target just put adate on it and start a new one, you canthen return to the other goal.

Why not get the whole familyinvolved in your goals and targets. Bydoing exercises together or making afamily health nights, where you geteveryone involved in designing andcooking healthy dinner. Is Big Brother Watching you?

Some Service Providers or ISPs asthey are more generally known cantrack your internet activity andwhatever your efforts to secureanonymity, no method is totally secure. Most web browser settings will stop thebrowser from storing information on yourown computer.

Why do they want to know what weare looking at? Most obviously, mediacompanies put pressure on ISPs towatch for users sharing copyrightedmaterial. Media companies can alsomake a lot of money by analysing usersonline activity so that they can morespecifically target advertising to you.You may have already noticed thatyour browser displays adverts similar toitems you have looked at recently oreven purchased. Some ISPs and web-site publishers may sell data detailingtheir users' browsing behaviour to adagencies.

Should you worry? Worry if you aresharing copyrighted material or usingyour Internet connection for other illegalactivity. Very few companies attach thedata they glean to specific accounts ornames -- which means that even if yourbrowsing habits are analysed, youremain mostly anonymous.

Security Measures: You can take afew simple steps to reduce the amountof traceable data you generate. Some websites that typically handlemore sensitive information, like emailclients or social media, usually offer asecure connection. You can enablesecure connections through settings onthe site or by typing "https:\\" beforethe address of a site that supports theconnection type. This protocol encryptsdata sent through the connection, sowhile your ISP will be able to see whatsite you are visiting, it will not be able tosee the information shared through thesecure connection.
