BOARD OF DIRECTORS

EHRA: September 2011

Pictured here are just a few of the over 50 EHRA members who attended the Indiana State Coun-

cil of SHRM’s Annual HR Conference held in Indianapolis on August 29-31. It was a great 3

days of learning, networking, and fun!

EHRA is proud to an-nounce that Angie Brawdy, SPHR, was re-cently named Volunteer Leader of the Year by the Indiana State Council of

SHRM at the 2011 HR Indiana Annual Conference in Indianapolis, which was held August 29-31, 2011. This award recognizes outstanding leadership, motivation, and organizational skills to the development of the Indi-ana State Council, the Local Chapter, or other SHRM Programs. For the past 17 years, Angie has devoted herself to giv-ing back to the HR Profession and her local and regional communities. She has held numerous leadership roles with EHRA, including the positions of Director of Compen-sation Survey, Director of Professional Development, President-Elect, President and Past President. As her term of Past President with EHRA was coming to an end, An-gie joined the Indiana State Council and now holds the position of Director-at-Large. In this capacity, Angie helps support the needs of the Indiana state chapters. She has assisted with growing the state conference and annual awards banquet. Further, An-gie has served on the Council and committee responsible for the State Council’s Pin-nacle Award – the back packs program that provided back packs of food to “in need” children. Additionally, Angie is on the Strategic Planning Committee for the State Council and serves as a mentor to chapter presidents to help their chapters be as suc-cessful as possible. Angie’s volunteer leadership continues through her involvement with Youth First on their HR Committee. Other past recipients of this prestigious award have included: Michelle Land Harris, PHR (2008), Michael Murphy, SPHR (2009), and Tara Ricketts, SPHR (2010). Congratulations to Angie and our other volunteer leaders and thank you for all you do! Michelle Choate, GPHR, PHR EHRA President, 2011

SHRM Foundation News: Generating Research-Based Knowledge The SHRM Foundation is the

leading funder of HR re-

search grants--providing funding for high-impact, original HR research that

advances the knowledge base of the profession. In the past 12 years, the SHRM Foundation has funded more than $2.8 million in research grants for over 105 research projects. Topics for

research include:

Making virtual teams more effective.

Increasing the success rate of new executives.

EHRA is looking for volunteers to be a part of the 21st Century Mentoring

Program through the EVSC at Bosse High School. Volunteers will be asked

to spend an hour per week with mentees and commit to the program for 1

year. Training will be conducted by EVSC for any individuals interested in

becoming mentors. The weekly time commitment can be done via face-to-

face meetings or other means such as email, text, or by phone. The EVSC

has had many students sign up to participate in this program, so they are

looking for community leaders from a variety of employers in the area to

partner with on this mentoring program. This is a great opportunity to make

a difference in the lives of our students and to encourage our young people to

EHRA Membership Marathon

After eleven months and nearly twenty-five referrals, we’ve entered the final month of EHRA’s Member-

ship Marathon. For the second month in a row, we’ve had a change in the top three spots on our Leader-

board. As has been the case for the past few months, the race for any of the top three prize spots remains

up for grabs as several members continue to be separated by less than a referral or two.

It’s not too late to reach out to members of your professional network to discuss the benefits of member-

ship in EHRA. We have several opportunities for networking and professional development still to come

this year, including the Fall Seminar, Diversity Conference, and HR After Hours events. These events

paired with other member benefits, such as Ask the Attorney, make membership in EHRA a great value.

So, don’t delay! Take a minute today and reach out to your friends and colleagues that could benefit from

being a member. As your referrals apply for membership, make sure they place your name in the re-

ferred by section of the member application.

With a few well placed calls, you may just end up at the top of the Leaderboard!

The Membership Marathon runs through the end of September 2011with the top three referrers winning

prizes* at the following values:

1st Place - Gold Medal: $100

2nd Place - Silver Medal: $65

3rd Place - Bronze Medal: $40

* Prizes will be awarded in form of restaurant gift card, EHRA credit, or a donation in winner’s name to

the charity of their choice

Questions about the program can be directed to George Lance at [email protected]

EHRA adds eleven members in August

Rick Barron is one of eleven new and returning members to the EHRA in August. Rick currently serves as Director of Human Resources at Brake Supply. When asked what he enjoys about his current position, Rick said, “Assisting employees with a variety of issues throughout their professional lifecycle.”

Another new member is Alyssa Parrott. Alyssa currently serves as a Recruit-er at Deaconess Hospital. When asked why she joined EHRA Alyssa said, “After being briefly involved as a USI HR Club student a couple of years ago, I felt like I had a better opportunity to get involved with my career in HR now. Recently becoming a recruiter here at Deaconess will allow me to interact with all kinds of new people, and what better way to start than to join EH RA?”

Heather Williams joined EHRA in August as well. Heather currently serves as a Human Resource Coordinator at Atlas Van Lines. When asked why she joined EHRA, Heather said, “I joined the EHRA to learn more about human resources in our surrounding area. I also wanted to improve my knowledge by meeting and getting involved with others that can teach more about the HR field.” Other new and returning members in August include Christy Atherton (HR Coordinator), Lori Cline (Ameriqual), Amanda Gries (Berry Plastics), April Jones (Evansville ARC), Dayna Keller (SABIC), Karen Russell (Alcoa) Chad Sullivan (Jackson Kelly PLLC) and Michelle Williams (EVSC)
