Norfolk Academy’s Alumni Association is very pleased to begin its eleventh summer of internship offerings through the Alumni Career Connection Program.  This program’s goal is to connect current students and young alumni with alumni and Academy friends who are already established in the workforce.  Upper School interns will have the opportunity to pursue genuine interests beyond the curricular offerings of the school, broadening their experiences and readying themselves for the independence the college admissions process brings. Young alumni in college will gain insight into career opportunities and first-job prospects. This unique program creates strong personal ties between Norfolk Academy and its wide range of constituencies.  The career guidance and first-hand experience provided are priceless in the current job market.  Please review the internship offerings and follow the instructions if you are interested in applying for any of the internship positions.

Note: Third-party internship programs that we advertise may have different requirements and deadlines than the Career Connections Internship program. Please apply to these programs directly, and make note of any differences in deadlines or requirements.

Baker’s Crust has been a leader in the Hampton Roads artisan bread movement since 1993.  We have grown from a small traditional shop serving soup, salad, and sandwiches in the Hilltop area of Virginia Beach to 6 full-service restaurants, including two in Richmond and our newest location in Williamsburg.  Philippe Bulan, an extremely talented artist and baker, continues to refine his recipes and techniques in his never-ending quest for extraordinary bread and pastries.  Our interns will receive focused training featuring a high level of hands-on practice and the opportunity to work in a production-oriented environment that will introduce them to the baking and pastry profession.  They will be exposed to the function of bakery equipment, learn general baking terminology, bakers’ math, and the main ingredients of bread and pastry.  Students will roll up their sleeves and be introduced to the process of dough making, fermentation, shaping, and baking.  They will practice beginner shaping techniques and learn what characteristics are desirable in properly baked goods.  This 4-week unpaid internship is a wonderful opportunity for any student to learn the art of baking!
