LIVING AS SERVANTS—NEWS

Connecting Compassionate People With People in Crisis

Reaching Out In Faith Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Last year when your gift was needed, you reached out in faith and generously helped Servants.

You and your gift mattered and you made a difference to families in need locally, nationally, and internationally.

We are so incredibly grateful for you. Thank you for supporting Servants!

Texas Families Still Need Your Help

What would you do if you were 70 years old, owned your home, had homeowner ’s insurance but did not live in a flood plain, so flooding is not covered, and you had 8 feet of water in your home from a storm?

This is the case for too many families in Vidor, Texas. They had 64” of rain in 3 days—the most rain that ever fell at one time in the U.S.! Insurance companies are not paying for the damages, which has destroyed so many homes, heirlooms, photos, furniture, family items, books, and personal things. Newly homeless, the families are living in campers on their property, living with family, or have just abandoned their home and town altogether.

John is 70-years old and his home is paid off. His insurance company said

they will not cover the total loss. He cannot get a loan for repairs because he only receives Social Security as income and doesn ’t have enough savings for the repairs. He works on his home every day, but makes little progress.

Servants is partnering with Nehemiah's Vision in Vidor, Texas to begin the long journey of recovery for this area of Texas. Several teams have already been there to paint, remove debris, hang drywall, rewire homes, replace flooring, etc.

You do not need experience to serve. Just the heart to help others. Servants has been training teams in our warehouse so they ’re ready to go with the needed skills when they arrive in Vidor.

Liz’s husband passed away 3 years ago. They built their home together, even choosing each stone, one at a time for years, for their fireplace. Liz does not want to leave her home but does not have the income for a loan to repair it. Thanks to teams, she will soon be able to once again live in the home she so loves.

Don’t wait to call for information about the Texas mission trips. You are needed to be the hands and feet of God, showing by example that He is in the recovery! Join a one of our teams!!!

Flexible dates are also available for groups of 10 or more, so if your church, Sunday School Class, club, etc. would like to serve together, give

Lisa Sica a call at 717-378-0336.

You can sign up for trips at servants.org/foreign-us-trips. For more information, contact Lisa at [email protected].

Because of YOU...

Celebrate Servants Community Impact! On Friday, May 4, 2018, Servants will hold their Second Annual Spring Gala!

Our goal is to raise $25,000 so we can serve the growing number of low-income families in our communities. It will take years to rebuild Texas and Servants has been called to assist the families in dire straights and more funding is needed. We are called to get our Serving at-Risk Families through school and to a place of self-sufficiency, and Servants needs the

funding to continue the mission in Guatemala.

Without you, we could not gather, teach, and coordinate volunteers to serve where they are called. Without you, we could not care for those in need around us. Without you, there would be no impact to the thousands of people whose lives have been changed!

This semi-formal Gala will be held at the beautiful Stone Mill Inn in Hallam

and will begin at 6:30pm.

Tickets are $50 per person and seating is limited. To join us, email Chris Gohn ([email protected]) or sign up at http://servants.org/events.

We are also looking for businesses and groups to sponsor the event. Please consider a sponsorship from your place of employment, church or group. For more information contact Chris Gohn or go to Servants.org/events.

The January Mission Team, who went to Guatemala to serve our at-risk families, ended up giving them a gift that boosted their journey toward self-sufficiency.

The team taught the women and older girls how to knit hats with small looms. It ’s a simple craft requiring only yarn and a loom. But this simple craft gives them a way to sell the hates, buy more yarn, and sell more hats. It is a way to give them a little bit

of income and an understanding of small business and how it works.

Guatemalans are cold

during the dry, winter season as there is no heating or air-conditioning in any of their homes. Hats, scarves, and gloves are coveted by the locals in Linda Vista and Villa Nueva. Our families are meeting a community need, learning a craft, and discovering how to make an income for their families.

What are your easy craft ideas for our families to make an income? Email Chris Gohn ([email protected])

God has clearly called us to nurture a lifestyle of never-ending prayer that results in intimacy with Him and impact in our world.

Prayer is an essential foundation for Servants. Every Monday, the staff at Servants locks the front door and prays.

Let’s fall to our knees together and pray for:

• In all ways we follow God in His plans and direction as we continue to grow in Him.

• Relationships to grow with our church partners, donors, volunteers, and supporters.

• Protection, good health, and safety for our missionaries, staff, volunteers, partners, prayer warriors and donors.

• Funding for Servants and the ministries we use to serve God and those in need in our communities.

• Individuals and groups to rise up to go on a servant mission trip and the transformation in their lives and those families served.

• Wisdom, discernment, courage and leadership skills for our staff and missionaries as God leads our ministries and grows our relationship with Him.

• New volunteers and groups to share their gifts and experiences with our Homeowners, with our Guatemalan families, and with the families in need in Texas.

What is a Culture of Prayer?

...Together we can serve where God calls us!

We hope you will consider joining the Servants Legacy Society—a vision for the future! Servants created the Legacy Society to celebrate and thank those individuals and families who share the vision to Build Relationships, Serve Christ, Transform Lives, and Provide Hope.

What is Servants’ Legacy Society?

We are very excited to welcome Lisa Sica to our staff! Lisa is serving as the Director of Servant Trips and Finance.

Lisa heard God calling her to come to Servants after a SARF mission trip. She returned from the trip unsettled, knowing God had something more for her. She has a passion for missions and is the mission coordinator at Mill Creek Bible Church in Lancaster. She is eager to start working with Servant trip teams, so they can have an amazing experience just as she did.

Lisa’s background working as a Chief

Financial Officer for 3 different nonprofits gives her the unique ability to help align finances with the mission and vision God has set before us.

She loves how Servants does what God calls us to do, and that we pray for His mission—not for our own.

Lisa is married with three children—Alexander is 18; Noah is 13; and Evangeline is 10-years old. She loves biscuits and gravy any time of the day. Her favorite Bible passage is Matthew 18:12-14. Feel free to welcome Lisa anytime at [email protected].

Get ready for Home Helps Work Camps! Home Helps is so excited to announce a fourth Work Camp this summer !!!

On July 9-13, 2018, we will be working in York City for a week.

We will partner with York City churches, businesses, and groups to serve as volunteers and fund the Work Camp.

Home Helps wants to show the love of Christ to York City Residents while bridging the gap between the Church and the Community. We want to educate everyone on the dire needs and opportunities to serve in the City.

Home Helps needs to fundraise $40,000 to complete all four Work Camps successfully.

We need to purchase a lot of construction materials, food and drinks, tools, dumpster rentals, etc.

You can sign up to be a volunteer at any time for a work camps, please call Alisha Crooks at 717-378-0336 ([email protected]) or get your volunteer application online at servants.org/homehelps.

You can donate toward the Work Camps at http://servants.org/support-

Don’t let fear or anxiety keep you from going to Texas for Disaster Recover or on an international mission trip. Servants coordinates all travel, all accommodations, ground transportation, meals, projects, etc.

Don’t let lack of funding keep you from a trip. Servants will show you how to fundraise for your mission trip. You don’t need skills or special talent either for the trip, just a heart to serve.

God will change your life when you serve His children through a mission trip. Email Lisa Sica at [email protected] or talk with us in person about trip details and your apprehensions.

A $200 deposit will hold your trip reservation.
