messagePresident’s

As a proud member station, CPTV is excited to announce that PBS has been recognized in a recent study as America’s most trusted institution and an “excellent” use of tax dol-lars.

Also the study showed that PBS was consid-ered the most fair network for news cover-age, investigations, and discussions about issues impacting our world today—outscoring

all other sources, including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, and FOX News. We are pleased to see award-winning news and public affairs programs like PBS NewsHour, Frontline, and Washington Week with Gwen Ifill recognized in this way for their high journalistic standards.

In addition, PBS Kids was named as a safe haven for children to watch television or visit online as well as the top innovator in chil-dren's educational media. As the station that first brought Barney & Friends, Thomas & Friends and Bob the Builder to the nation, CPTV knows firsthand the research and quality control that PBS demands from every children’s series that goes on its air. These high marks are indeed well deserved.

Seeing PBS recognized as America’s most trusted institution—for the ninth year in a row no less—is indeed a strong validation of the work we do on behalf of our viewers. It’s rewarding to see the impact of our mission on the day-to-day lives of those we serve. The public’s trust has always been vital to our goal of bringing the most highly regarded television shows to the citizens of Connecticut. These survey results further demonstrate the broad reach and scope of our reputation as an institution rooted in education, diversity, and enriching programming.

Thank you for continuing to support our mission.

National Research Confirms PBS and Its Member Stations Are #1 in Public Trust and an “Excellent” Use of Tax Dollars for Ninth Consecutive Year

Research Also Confirms PBS KIDS as the Most Highly Regarded TV/Media Brand in Children's Educational Media

has substantiated the role PBS and its member stations have among its most important stakeholder—the American public. For the ninth consecutive year, PBS and PBS stations were cited as the most-trusted institution and considered an “excellent” use of tax dollars. PBS and PBS stations were also called the most fair network for news and public affairs. In addition, PBS KIDS was named the most educa-tional TV/media brand, the safest destination for children to watch television or visit online, and the top provider of content that helps children build reading and math skills.

The research was conducted in January and February 2012. Each year, PBS commissions research to measure its performance and value as judged by the American public.

“It’s always rewarding to be recognized for the mission and value of the work we do,” said Jerry Franklin, president and CEO of the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN), parent company of CPTV. “The public’s trust and the longevity of holding that trust are para-mount to our goal of bringing the best television programming to the citizens of Connecticut. These findings further exemplify the broad reach and scope of CPTV and our reputation.”

April Feature

This April, Primeval comes roaring to TV sets across Connecticut, when the hit BBC sci-fi series begins airing on CPTV on Sundays at 6 p.m. and on CPTV4U on Fridays at 10 p.m. Primeval follows a team of scientists tasked with investigating the appearance of unexplained anomalies that are rip-ping holes in the fabric of time, allowing creatures from the very earliest stages of Earth’s development to roam through the modern world. These creatures are fero-cious and puzzling, and their presence throws up a terrible dilemma—is history about to be turned on its head? Will humanity survive in the face of a new and unprecedented threat from other species? And most urgently of all—what will happen if velociraptors decide to invade England?

The series follows the efforts of Professor Nick Cutter (Douglas Henshall) and his associates—friend and expert tracker Stephen Hart (James Murray), student Connor Temple (Andrew-Lee Potts), and zookeeper Abby Maitland (Hannah Spearritt)—as they explore the appearance of these “earthquakes

in time,” and the often-dangerous crea-tures that threaten the lives of everyday citizens. The British government's Home Office, under the supervision of James Lester (Ben Miller) and Claudia Brown (Lucy Brown), becomes involved after a Gorgonopsid travels through one such anomaly and wreaks havoc in the Forest of Dean.

Cutter and his team struggle to keep the looming disaster secret while dealing with savage dinosaurs, giant insects, prehistoric parasites, and other deadly foes from the wildest shores of evolu-tion. While battling to stem the invasion of creatures from the past, Cutter also has to deal with a personal dilemma—he discovers that his wife Helen, missing and believed dead for eight years, has actually been traveling in the past; now she is back with possible answers to the riddle of the anomalies, but is it an answer she is willing to share? And if not, what does she really want?

At the team’s Anomaly Research Center (ARC), dark secrets begin to bubble to the surface, testing relationships to the limit as the anomalies become more unpredictable and numerous, with more

far-reaching consequences than ever before. The end of the world seems to be just around the corner—will the team be able to stop the approaching apocalypse before it’s too late?

From creators Tim Haines (Walking With Dinosaurs) and Adrian Hodges (My Week With Marilyn), the series finds the team racing to stop the destruction of the world, while also preventing secrets from causing their own demise.

The stakes are high, and lives are lost. The team seems to be facing a losing battle, running out of weapons and time while fighting to save the ARC and bring down hordes of future predators. At the brink of catastrophe, it seems as though everything could be changed forever. Could this mean the end of the human race? Tune in to find out.
