PA05 Managing production in cement and minerals industries

Understanding Knowledge ManagerTM - based production management systems for cement and minerals industries.

PA06 Trends in automation - smarter instruments and how they impact plant performance

It’s easy to forget that the whole reason for the fi eld-device network is the smart device on the plant fl oor. There is little doubt that technological improvements, such as fi eldbuses, have offered signifi cant savings in wiring, but the real reason to install smart instruments is to get more information about the process and the device itself. Enhanced diagnostics of the sensor, electronics, and process, not only can communicate more information about the devices. Smart instruments are embedded systems and use a hardware-architecture strategy to increase measurement accuracy under varying operating conditions. These instruments use sensors to make physical measurements, a microprocessor to partially analyze sensor data, on-board memory to hold parameters and intermediate results, and I/O capabilities to report results to the next level of automation. Today’s smart instruments provide a change in technology that takes full advantage of the microprocessor technology to provide fast, bidirectional digital-communications to decrease the overall cost of process instrumentation.

PA12 Integrated process and power automation for industries

Leaders in the process control industry have continually expressed the need for increased operational effi ciency, reduced downtime and reduced energy consumption. Often referred to as electrical integration, integrated process and power automation is a new system integration architecture and power strategy that addresses each of the issues facing process industries today. The architecture is based on industrial ethernet standards such as IEC 61850 and PROFINET. This session will discuss typical applications for the industries.

TD01 Digital substations: Towards a

fully interoperable technology

- challenges and solutions

The IEC 61850 standard not only specifi es a station level communication bus but

also a process level bus for communication from the process to the IEDs. However,

implementation of the process bus in substations has been slow. This session

provides an overview of the process bus and the issues involved in implementing a

fully interoperable solution.

TD02 Best engineering practices for

telecommunication system for

utilities.

The session will discuss on the process involved in the engineering of powerline

carrier communication system for EHV lines. This will also discuss the input required

from customers, various challenges and tools utilised for providing best engineered

solutions to the power utilities.

TD03 Relion - latest technology

for protection, control

measurement and supervision

From interconnected transmission grids to secondary distribution kiosks, ensuring

interoperable and future-proof solutions - ABB Relion products are designed to

implement the core values of the IEC 61850 standard. This session offers an overview

of functions and benefi ts of Relion range of products.

TD04 Secure and reliable substation

communication networks

To improve the overall availability of substation automation systems, utilities prefer

to have communication redundancy in the system. The redundancy could be at

the network level or at the node level. The session offers an overview of latest

technologies in substation automation systems, including cyber security in modern

substations.

TD05 Introduction to smart grids The traditional power grid is based on centralized generation plants that supply end

users via long established, uni-directional T&D systems. But times are changing.

Today’s demands for increased power supplies with higher reliability from cleaner and

preferably renewable energy sources cannot be met with today’s grid infrastructure.

We need an intelligent system that can receive power of all qualities from all sources

– both centralized and distributed – and deliver reliable supplies, on demand, to

consumers of all kinds. We need a smart grid.

TD06 Take control of your

transmission network

Cyber security and situational awareness are the two important considerations when

designing new control centers for transmission operators. This session will show

some fi ndings using the latest software tools.

TD07 Smart grid: Feeder

automation in medium voltage

(MV) over head networks

Smart grid concept for MV distribution networks catering to remote areas. Making

unmanned substations a reality for utilities. Case studies of key installations.

TD08 Solutions for frequency

congestion in PLCC system

In many parts of our country, PLCC frequency spectrum is over-crowded due to

many EHV lines terminating / originating from a substation. As a result frequencies

are not available for new PLCC system in new substations / transmission lines. This

sessions looks at the challenges and possible solutions to establish well proven

communication system.
