JOURNAL OF PUSHPANJALI HEALTHCARE JULY 2010

Trust makes every day Special

Over the ages, the doctor-patient relationship has been defined, through rules of ethics and rules of law, as a

relationship founded in trust. On July 1st each year, this relationship is honored in memory of the birth

anniversary of one of India's most revered physicians, Dr B C Roy.

Dr Roy's dedication to the lives of people led him to become a leader of the Indian National Congress and later Chief

Minister of West Bengal. Doctor's Day thus pays tribute to Dr B C Roy and all doctors like him, who spend their

lives helping others.

This special day is an ideal opportunity to remind people of the critical role doctor's play in our lives. Being a doctor

is not just a 'job'; it is a challenging commitment to service that requires high levels of skill and precision. To make a

tough job even tougher, doctors also have to deal with the reality that even a small professional mistake could

drastically affect a patient's life. Doctor's Day is the perfect time for all of us to acknowledge the high pressures of

this job and the doctor's ability to comfort and heal.

Doctor's Day has also a significance for doctors themselves as it provides them with an opportunity to reflect on

their own careers, realize the responsibility they bear and redirect themselves onto the path of healing those in

need.

Unfortunately, the medical profession today is witnessing a rapidly deteriorating patient-doctor relationship, with

people losing faith in their doctor's abilities. The easy availability of medical information, and misinformation,

from the media and the Internet is also responsible for clouding a patient's view of their doctor's advice. Nowadays,

doctors are more often the victims of criticism while their successes are overlooked. It is true that the medical

profession carries a heavy responsibility with it, but people need to realize that behind the white coat and

stethoscope is a normal human being and like in all other professions, doctors too need appreciation for their work

and efforts.

However, while doctors represent the face of the medical profession, there are many, seemingly invisible but

nonetheless very important, members of the health delivery mechanism – administrators, managers, nurses, and

other workers who contribute to making the hospital worthy of trust. The patients' and the family members

experience of the hospital does not rest on the shoulder of the treating doctor alone, but on each one of us who are

involved in making this experience a memorable one.

Let us, all members of the Pushpanjali Crosslay Hospital team remember this – for us every patient is special and

so is every day.

“This super-speciality hospital offers to the residents of Ghaziabad – who had to routinely travel to Delhi or Noida

for advanced health care –a superior option….it has many firsts to its credit…it has a pneumatic tube for

transferring medicines, blood samples and drugs from one station to another…..”

There are no adequate words that can

express my gratitude. Thank you very

much for making my family feel at home. I

just spoke to my mother, her laugh said it

Dear Dr Aggarwal,

It is very difficult to find noble human beings with an exceptional spirit of service above self like

you in today’s mundane world. I really do not know how I should thank you for your generous

support in organizing the visit of students of mother Teresa Institute of Nursing Gwalior.

It was an eye-opener for all of them including me to meet the human dynamo who has created such

wonderful facilities for ameliorating the suffering humanity. The students are extremely indebted

to you for giving them an opportunity not only to see the multipronged services at your hospital but

also enlightening lectures organized for them on important issues. They have gone back enriched

and have learnt a lot during their visit.

Mr Vivek Tuli, Director Operations joins me in every word. What has pleased us the most is yourkind offer to consider employment of nurses, their regular training in the future and also providing

faculty for workshop and seminars as per need. This bounteous offer has moved us all to no end.

With deep appreciation and grateful regards.
