Fia Fenwick Fiona spoke to an audience of over 140 people at the Women in Wine national networking event held the evening before the 2019 Bragato Conference in Napier. Her inspiring talk encouraged people to stand out and step up. Fiona urged everyone to truly understand what their uniqueness is. Whether it be their skill sets, experience, personality, creativity, influence or a potent combination of some or all. “If we simply do what everyone else does and have no point of difference, we will never progress”. She talked about the need for self-belief and how few people ever reach their full potential, often by being too ‘busy’ to spend time truly understanding who they are and what they can do. “There is someone out there, likely less qualified than you, doing the things you want to do, and know you can do, simply because they believe in themselves and in turn, have secured the belief of others”. Fiona shared that a key part of being successful is having people advocate for you. Talking about Mentoring Fiona said, “Mentors are gold. They help us to hear ourselves - painful as that is sometimes! They help us to get clear on the things that count for us.” She advocated strongly for the WIW and new mentoring programmes and urged all to “imagine the value to your career of a mentoring relationship where you could talk and challenge freely in a safe space, without judgement”. She urged more to consider being Mentors and everyone to consider supporting a Mentee. She finished her inspirational talk with the following clarion call, “It’s never too late to be who you might have been”. As a result of seeing significant untapped potential in those she has worked with throughout her career, Fiona wrote ‘Stand Out and Step Up’. Her book is a toolkit for anyone looking to, “understand themselves better, become more successful and fulfil their potential”. Fiona FenwickFiona spoke to an audience of over 140 people at the Women in Wine national networking event held the evening before the 2019 Bragato Conference in Napier.

Her inspiring talk encouraged people to stand out

and step up.

Fiona urged everyone to truly understand what

their uniqueness is. Whether it be their skill sets,

experience, personality, creativity, influence or a

potent combination of some or all. “If we simply do what everyone else does and have no point of difference, we will never progress”.

She talked about the need for self-belief and how

few people ever reach their full potential, often by

being too ‘busy’ to spend time truly understanding

who they are and what they can do. “There is someone out there, likely less qualified than you, doing the things you want to do, and know you can do, simply because they believe in themselves and in turn, have secured the belief of others”.

Fiona shared that a key part of being successful is

having people advocate for you.

Talking about Mentoring Fiona said, “Mentors are gold. They help us to hear ourselves - painful as that is sometimes! They help us to get clear on the things that count for us.”

She advocated strongly for the WIW and new

mentoring programmes and urged all to “imagine the value to your career of a mentoring relationship where you could talk and challenge freely in a safe space, without judgement”. She urged more to

consider being Mentors and everyone to consider

supporting a Mentee.

She finished her inspirational talk with the following

clarion call, “It’s never too late to be who you might have been”.

As a result of seeing significant untapped potential

in those she has worked with throughout her

career, Fiona wrote ‘Stand Out and Step Up’. Her

book is a toolkit for anyone looking to, “understand themselves better, become more successful and fulfil their potential”.
