Travelodge Duncan Hosts Chamber Mixer - June 5, 5:30 pm
February visitor stats up over 200 %!
We have had a steady flow of visitors to our new location adjacent the BC Forest Discovery Centre, including our first
bus tour stop! The comments about the themed interpretive displays, featuring all the incredible things to experience
in the Cowichan, has been incredibly positive. If you are a member with a tourism product or service, please ensure
we have your rack cards - especially restaurants and accommodations. The majority of visitors are still wanting an
actual brochure in their hand as they leave the Centre. Hard to believe that not everyone is electronically connected or
has a GPS!
If you are not a member of the Chamber, but wish to rack in the new Centre, please let us know as we have special
racking rates available. [email protected]
Participate in our Relocation Package for only $25 a year! Did you know that we mail or email or hand out - over 200 Relocation Packages every year? These are filled with all
sorts of info like schools, realtors, doctors, accommodations, mortgage brokers, lawyers, etc - specific to families
and individuals who are considering moving here or have just arrived to the community. Here is one of our many
responses to our Relocation Package, "Hi Kirsty. I just wanted to thank you for the thorough information you've sent
to me - it was great and really assisted us. We did finally come to the area for a few days, bought a home, and now
we're moving to Mill Bay the first week of May! A Duncan real estate agent, XXXXXXX was very helpful and welcoming
to us. Thanks again! ERIC"
If you would like your business represented in our Relocation Package for only $25 a year, please contact Kirsty at 250-

Cowichan's Own Dragon's Den
Eight youth teams are preparing to wow judges with their business ideas come May. With support from Coastal
Community Credit Union, Community Futures, and business mentors the teams are competing for more than $1000 in
cash and prizes. They will be judged on three criteria: Innovation, Marketing & Promotion and Finance.
Coastal Community is sponsoring the competition - Moira Hauk, Branch Manager of Coastal Community Credit Union's
Chemainus and Duncan branches, says sponsoring the event was the obvious thing to do for her credit union. "By
providing youth with the opportunity to experience their first taste of business success, our hope is that we will be
building young entrepreneurs who will become our business community of the future." Between now and the end of
May, teams will compete in three stages with a final awards event in early June.
Youth Dragons' Den
True to the spirit of encouraging young business skills, Coastal Community is also
sponsoring the Young Entrepreneur category at Black Tie 2014.
