Theresidential style suites androoms have been refurbishedby leading interior designer,Guy Oliver, who has a particularinterest in domestic periodrenovation including the wellproportioned characteristicsadhered to by the Adam styleof interiors: formality, symmetryand simplicity. In the Coburg Bar Parisianbased designer, India Mahdavihas created a destinationfor genuine bar aficionados.Using her unique and eclecticcreativity, she has designed apublic space that encompassesa warm, chic, relaxed andintimate vibe, whilemaintaining the essence of itsoriginal appeal. Moderndecorative touches, such aslacquering the fire surround inblack and painting the woodpanelling in a trendy taupe,have added renewed allure toexisting antique pieces. Artworkis simple and outstanding, withfour black and white cameos

by Julian Opie sitting on thepanelling either side of oneof the two original fireplaces.The old wingback chairs strikea beguiling pose, now reclaimedand re‐upholstered in velvetwith black fringing. The largecaramel Heppelwhite ‘loveseats’are invitingly cosy for two andthe wide seated 18th century‘easy chairs’, covered inburgundy, mink and purple,are extremely special. This isa bar in which to enjoy finewines with a distinctiveConnaught cocktail menu,spanning three centuries, incomforting and luxurious style.

To this are subtlybeing added no less than 33 newrooms and suites on the historicAdam's Row Mews, which willenjoy a more contemporarytake from designer Guy Oliver.Each will be entered via awalnut lined dressing room withextensive wardrobe space.The rooms themselves willbenefit from full height windowsand beautifully detailed bespokefurniture: a curved sofa, bronzeand oak desk, leather side tablesand a hand knotted carpet,all strikingly set on polishedwalnut floors. A plasma screenwill sit discreetly in a wall unit,the bar cleverly hidden behind

a mirrored screen. Modern artby named artists will completethe mood. Marble and mirrorlined spa bathrooms will beaccessed through a screen doorand include rain and hand heldshowers, deep free‐standingdouble baths, a generous doublevanity unit, a calming soundsystem and the latest televisiontechnology.

A world‐class spa completewith swimming‐pool, gymand well appointed treatmentrooms, is to be managedappropriately by Amanresorts,whose belief that small isbeautiful fits perfectly withthe Connaught’s philosophy.

A marble columned doubleheight ballroom, approachedfrom a grand staircase anda spacious reception areawill accommodate 100 guestsfor dinner.
