El Verbo – The action word in a sentence El Infinitivo – The infinitive (to + a verb)

To walk = caminar To run = correr To hear = oir

An infinitive in Spanish is a verb with “-AR”, “-ER”, or “-IR” attached to the end.

***An infinitive is a verb with NO SUBJECT. No one is participating in the action.

What is Conjugating?

Conjuger = to change a verb’s ending to match its subject pronoun; to show who is doing the action.

You have to conjugate the infinitive verb in order to make sense when you speak. If you say, “Yo hablar inglés”, you are literally saying, “I

to speak English”.

Ex: Yo tengo vs. Yo tener

Ex: Yo soy vs. Yo ser
