HUMAN CONCERNS COMMISSION

Dear Lord, Hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need.

Remember Those Far From Home LCpl. Elijah Burgins Po3. John Castro Lt. Eric Infante Pvt. Peter Eck

Cpl. Peter Hinderer Sgt. Scott Majewski Afc. Jeremy McNeel Spc. Justin Pastirik Pfc. Joseph Pusateri Theodore Soupart

Let us remember and pray for those who are always in our hearts. If you have loved ones who are currently serving in the Armed Forces, please call the rectory at 847-437-6208 and we will add their names to our bulletin list. When your loved one has returned home, please let us know so we can remove their name from the list. Thank you.

Today as we celebrate Christ the King, may we open the door of our heart so wide that we may listen to the voice of Jesus calling us to

help build his kingdom here on earth.

In the month of November, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to help build the kingdom of God. Thank You!

Pope Francis Offers Beatitudes for Modern Christians

— Blessed are those who remain faithful while enduring evils inflicted on them by others and forgive them from their heart.

— Blessed are those who look into the eyes of the abandoned and marginalised and show them their closeness. — Blessed are those who see God in every person and strive to make others also discover him.

— Blessed are those who protect and care for our common home.

— Blessed are those who renounce their own comfort in order to help others. — Blessed are those who pray and work for full communion between Christians.

Decorating the Church for the Holidays

We will be doing a lot of decorating in the coming weeks for Thanksgiving, Advent, and Christmas. Could you spare a few hours to

help us decorate? This is a service opportunity for teens preparing for Confirmation and for

any age adult to be involved at the parish. Many hands make light work. Come and help us make our church ready for the holidays.

This weekend, we celebrate Christ the King, officially called "The Solemnity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, King of the Universe." The Feast of Christ the King was estab-lished by Pope Pius XI in 1925 as an antidote to secularism, a way of life which leaves God out of man's thinking and living and organizes his life as if God did not exist. The feast is intended to proclaim in a striking and effective manner Christ's royalty over individuals, families, society, governments, and nations.

www.catholicculture.org/culture/liturgicalyear/calendar

Fun facts about Christ the King from www.churchpop.com

It was originally supposed to be the last Sunday of October, just before the Feast of All Saints – which, in 1926, just hap-pened to be October 31st.

Pope Paul VI gave the feast its current full title (the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe) and moved it to the last Sunday of the liturgical year.

Even though it was created by a pope less than a hundred years ago, some Anglicans, Lutherans, Methodists, and Presbyteri-ans celebrate the feast.

The Christ the King statue in Świebodzin, Poland is the largest statue of Jesus in the world. At 33 meters tall (one meter for each year of Jesus’ earthly life), the Christ the King statue is 3 meters taller than the Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In 2017, St. Cecilia will celebrate its 50th

Anniversary as a parish. In celebration of this event, we have partnered with LifeTouchto produce a photo directory. We would like all St. Cecilia “families” (and by that we mean families, extended families, singles, widows/widowers, everyone) to participate in taking a picture that will be included in our Anniversary Photo Directory. We will be offering 5 photo shoots in early January . There is no fee for the photo session and “families” that take a picture will get a free directory and a free 8 x 10. You will view your portraits within minutes of having them taken.

The dates and times for the photo shoots are:

• January 4th – January 6th (Wed. – Fri.) 2:00 – 9:00 pm; and

• January 7th – January 8th (Sat. & Sun.) 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

While there is no obligation to do so, you will have the opportunity to order additional portraits at a 20% discount!

There will be a table in the Gathering Space the weekends of November 19th/20th and December 3rd/4th to sign up for an appointment.

WHAT’S AN ANNIVERSARY PARTY WITHOUT PICTURES?

RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE INVITES YOU TO BE A SECRET SANTA FOR A CHILD IN NEED.

As in the past, a tree filled with tags can be found in the Gathering Space.

Please, pick up a tag for a boy or girl and purchase a gift of clothing or toys and return your unwrapped gift to the tree by December 4. Place the tag on your bag and keep in mind that these gifts will be transported on buses. Be mindful of size and weight.

These gifts will be distributed at the Annual Women’s Center Christmas Party.

Your generosity is always overwhelming!

Congratulations to

George W. Klima and

Abigail c. Reising who were married at St. Cecilia's on Saturday, November 12, 2016.

A Thankful heart

is a Happy Heart.

Hand-Carved Olive Wood Gifts

There are more than 600 Christian families living in Beth-lehem and are completely dependent on carving olive wood figurines for their livelihood. The recent clashes in the Middle East have stopped the tourism industry in Bethlehem, causing most of those families serious harm

in earning their living and forcing many of them to leave their homeland. We help those families by selling their beautiful religious hand crafts. The cost of goods goes to bene-fit the Christian carvers to keep them work-ing in the spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, the profit from sales goes directly to the needy Catholic schools and clinics in

the Holy Land. Please take a look at these beautiful articles November 26th & 27th .
