A Note About Our Prayerbooks Welcome to the South Street Temple. Our prayerbooks, Mishkan T’Filah, are in the lobby or on the bookshelf at the front of the sanctuary. We invite you to take one so that you may join in our worship. As these are sacred books, we ask that you handle them with care by keeping them off the floor and returning them to their proper place at the conclusion of the service. Each prayer in Mishkan T’Filah is laid out in a two-page spread, the Hebrew text, transliteration, and English translation on the right, and on the left are two alternate English readings reflecting on the theme of the prayer. The rabbi or cantorial soloist will announce page numbers and which option will be read. Shabbat Shalom. We are glad you are here.

Joined together in song.

LJCS News

Religious school classes will meet at their normal times and buildings this Sunday March 19..

South Street Temple is partnering with "We Can Do This"

to provide weekend meals to the children of the F Street

Community Center

The neighborhood surrounding the F Street Community Center is

designated as an “extreme poverty area” by the U.S. Census Bureau.

While the Center provides evening meals during the school week, it

does not have the budget to serve anything to eat on weekends,

leaving some children with little or no food during the day.

Join us as we provide lunch on the third Sunday of every

month. Food/monetary donations, meal preparation and assistance

with setting up, serving, and clean-up are needed!

We will serve our next meal on March 19 at 2:30 p.m. For more

information, email Sarah Beringer at [email protected].

Unitarian Church of Lincoln Winter Lecture Series 2017:

Inequality of Income and Wealth: Causes, Consequences,

& Resolutions.

Of the many factors that define and divide people, inequalities of income

and wealth loom as one of the most important, defining societies and nations

as “developed,” “third world,” “developing” etc. Within those societies and

nations income disparities are often stark, separating us into rich or poor,

impoverished or middle class, and generating disparities in nutrition,

longevity, and wellbeing.

The continuing 2017 Winter Lecture Series takes a closer look at the

complex subject of income and wealth inequality, and consists of five

lectures presented on five successive Sundays from 2/19/17 to 3/19/17 at the

Unitarian Church, 6300 A Street. Each Sunday session begins at 7:00 PM

and ends at 9:00 PM, with the 1-hour lecture followed by a brief

refreshment period and an audience-driven Q&A. Lectures are free and open

to the public; parking is available.

Upcoming Schedule:

March 19, 2017: Panel Discussion with James Goddard (Nebraska

Appleseed), Scott Young (Foodbank of Lincoln), and Anita Seth

(UNITE/HERE, New Haven)

Note: In case of inclement weather, cancellations will be posted on the

Unitarian Church website (www.unitarianlincoln.org) and announced

on KOLN-TV (channel 10/11) and KFOR radio (1240 AM).

The Faithful Fight: How to Work for a Just World and Tend Your Soul at

the Same Time

with Rev. Kim Morrow People can feel overwhelmed by the many

painful issues facing our society. Problems

like income inequality, racism, sexism,

climate change, xenophobia, political

instability, and extreme polarization can seem

too big to face. In this class, we will take a

step back to look at three great social justice

leaders to see how their faith sustained them

in working for the world they believed God

promised. We will look at the difficult

circumstances that faced Gandhi, Dietrich

Bonhoeffer, and Martin Luther King, Jr., and

examine how they built powerful movements

for lasting change. We will explore how

spiritual practice can nurture us for the long

journey and contemplate the social justice

actions each of us wish to take on with joy,

faith, and perseverance.

The Rising Stars of American Jewish Music A concert to benefit the Seth Rich Memorial Camp Scholarship Fund

Sunday, March 26 - 4:00 pm

BANOT "Co-founded by four women who are recent Berklee graduates, the BANOT flavor is derived from the worlds of jazz, R&B, classical, and folk, to name a few." www.banotmusic.com NOAH ARONSON, Singer and Song leader "...perhaps the most sought after Jewish musician of our times." http://www.noaharonson.com/

Plus Students from our Community and You!! Concert Chairs: Mary and Joel Rich; Pam and Bruce Friedlander

Our friends at the Jewish Federation of Omaha have offered to sponsor a bus from Lincoln to Omaha for the concert if there is

enough interest to warrant it. If our numbers are smaller, we could instead organize carpools within the community.

This is a great opportunity to hear performers who wouldn’t make it to Lincoln. Please let either the Temple or Synagogue office know if you

would be interested in either a bus or carpool. We’d like a rough count before March 2nd so we can decide how to proceed.
