INTERNATIONAL CLEANUP CONFERENCE ADELAIDE 2019
Introduction
• Conflicts in regulatory frameworks, expectations and site information for regulatory bodies often occur within contaminated land investigation and remediation
![Page 3: CONFLICTING REGULATORY FRAMEWORKS ON ...adelaide2019.cleanupconference.com/wp-content/uploads/...Management of Asbestos Current regulatory notices regarding all contamination on site](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022011917/5fe76d45a61eb1531c7e8463/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)

Regulatory background
• The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) regulates contaminated sites through the: − Contaminated Sites Act 2003 WA (CS Act) − Contaminated Sites Regulations 2006 WA (CS Regulations) − Environmental Protection Act 1986 WA (EP Act) − Ministerial statements allocating responsibilities through the EP
Act
• Mine sites are included within the framework of contaminated sites management through the Mining Act 1978 [amended 2015].

Asbestos
INTERNATIONAL CLEANUP CONFERENCE ADELAIDE 2019
• Asbestos use across Australia has been banned since December 2003 − Current site infrastructure would
therefore not contain asbestos
• As the site occupier legally could be liable under the CS Act and DoH guidelines
• Contradicts agreement with EPA and ministerial statements
![Page 10: CONFLICTING REGULATORY FRAMEWORKS ON ...adelaide2019.cleanupconference.com/wp-content/uploads/...Management of Asbestos Current regulatory notices regarding all contamination on site](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022011917/5fe76d45a61eb1531c7e8463/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Conflict of responsibilities
INTERNATIONAL CLEANUP CONFERENCE ADELAIDE 2019
Responsibilities under the Mining
Act (and deferring to CS
Act and CS Regulations)
Responsibilities according to
EPA and ministerial
agreements + changes in site configuration
Actual remediation
to be required
prior to mine closure

DE-FLUOROTM - PFAS Destruction Technology Booth #9 at the CleanUp Trade Exhibition
INTERNATIONAL CLEANUP CONFERENCE ADELAIDE 2019
DE-FLUOROTM is a world first. It offers a complete PFAS destruction solution through electrochemical oxidation.
One of a kind
For more information on DE-FLUOROTM, find us at booth #9 at the CleanUp trade exhibition
Come and see us at booth 9
DE-FLUOROTM can be used as a standalone destruction solution, or be coupled with existing remediation technologies to deliver a whole of cycle solution.
Standalone solution, or coupled with existing technologies Destroying PFAS in liquids, DE-FLUOROTM is an economically
and environmentally sustainable water treatment technology that destroys PFAS without generating hazardous waste.
No hazardous waste
