Disable Automatic Updates on Windows 8

Automatic Updates is a feature in the Window's operating system that automatically checks for the latest updates for your computer. That way, you don't have to search on the internet for a critical update. However, this risks making the computer work slower from adding unnecessary updates. In this tutorial, we are going to show you how you can prevent Windows 8 from automatically updating.

Step 1:

To start, you'll need to open "Local Group Policy Editor". To do this, write “Gpedit.msc” in the start menu, then press “Enter”. The following window will show up.

There are three options you can choose in this window:

1. "Do not display 'Install Updates and Shut Down' option in Shut Down Windows dialog box" 2. "Do not adjust default option to “Install Updates and Shut Down” in Shut Down Windows dialog

box"3. "Remove access to all Windows Update features"

All of these options are not configured, which means they are enabled. So, in order to disable them, they need to be configured.

Step 2

"Do not display 'Install Updates and Shut Down' option in Shut down Windows dialog box"

Select this option if you want to configure. Then, press “Policy setting”. If you enable this option, the "Install Updates and Shut Down" option will not appear in the shutdown dialog box. In other words, enable this policy if you don’t want to get bothered with Windows updates.

Remove access to all Windows Update features

If you enable this setting, all Windows Update features are removed. Once you enable this setting you won’t receive notifications of critical updates from the Microsoft website and updates will not be installed automatically.

Also in this window you can configure notifications about these updates.

You can choose:

1. Do not show any notifications 2. Show restart required notifications

If you choose the first option you won’t get any notifications and all access to Windows update features is removed.

If you choose the second option then you will get notifications that are required to complete an installation.
