The History of Greyville

The history of Greyville dates as far back as 1844, with the venues - hosting the province’s first official

horseracing event. The track has had the honour of hosting the likes of Queen Elizabeth II,

the Duke of Edinburgh and an array of enthusiasts from all corners of the globe.

The full scope of Greyville’s event hosting capabilities are now for the

first time being exposed by the Greyville Exhibition and Events Company.

The Greyville Racecourse

The 2 800m track encircles the Royal Durban Golf Course and is home to South Africa’s premier horse

race and fashion event, the Durban July. With a bustling nightlife in nearby Florida Road and some of the finest

restaurants in the province just around the corner, the suburb has experienced a revival, making

for a perfectly placed introduction of several venues that is sure to change the face of the city forever.


The Greyville Exhibition and Events Company

A grouping of leading professionals in hospitality and event management has joined forces to transform Durban

eventing as we know it. Identifying a need to facilitate an array of events at one location, this team of concert

organisers, conference organisers, exhibition experts, wedding planners and project managers have had an unprec-

edented meeting of the minds to form the Greyville Exhibition and Events Company, the likes of which have not been

seen before. Established to provide an open-plan exhibition and conference space at one of Durban’s

most recognisable landmarks, the multipurpose Centre is equally adept at hosting sporting events, conventions, cor-

porate functions, concerts and weddings.

With over 25 years of experience, its little wonder that this team has been appointed as the sole marketing,

sales and operations agents of hospitality at Greyville.


Capacity and Flexibility

In close proximity to national highways and 5000 secure on-site parking bays make Greyville the preferred

destination for both social and business occasions alike. With thirteen magnificent indoor venues that boast

a combined capacity of 20 000 people, it is clear that there is a new hotspot in town.

Featuring the largest outdoor screen of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa and with infrastructure to host concerts

of up to 50 000 people, there are no limits to event organisers needs.


Venues The pride of the Centre is undoubtedly the Silver Ring Room. The largest freestanding indoor facility without columns in Durban, it is

the quintessential events hall. Unobstructed views in a 1 900 square metre space and a capacity of 1 800 people

The Saddlers ArmsIt is said that some of the most profitable deals are done

in a relaxed social setting and the Saddlers Arms provides

just such an opportunity. Durban’s biggest names from

prominent industries catch up and take in the striking

views of Greyville Racecourse whilst talking business

and reminiscing of years gone by. An exclusive 50-seater

venue, Saddlers Arms features a fine dining restaurant,

full-service bar and state of the art audio/visual equipment.

The Classic RoomIf horse racing is the sport of kings, then the Classic

Room is Greyville’s answer to the burning question of how

the other half live. An expansive location with an ability to

accommodate up to 400 people, one would be forgiven

for thinking that blue blood is required for entry. The defi-

nition of old-world opulence, the Classic Room may be

split in two and provides quick passage to the grandstand

and the elite Chairman’s Suite. Recently refurbished and

blessed with memorabilia of champions past and present,

its tones of pearl and beige prove appropriate for the ab-

stract art that adorns it. Guests are encouraged to make

use of its full-service bar and mingle well into the evening.

Harking back to the age of bellbottoms and The Beatles,

Palm Court is a 1960’s inspired banquet hall, styled with

copper and mahogany finishes. Effortlessly shifting from

corporate to casual, this split venue is perfectly suited to

year-end functions, weddings, banquets and parties.

Two separate bar and buffet service areas allow for

simultaneous events to be held, making Palm Court the

complete multipurpose location for families and

colleagues alike. With televisions in every corner, guests

can rest assured that they’ll never miss out on the enter-

Staying true to the spirit of the location, Sea Cottage is a

staple of Greyville and caters for up to 400 guests from all

walks of life. Boasting panoramic views of the entire track,

it is the quintessential venue for racing enthusiasts and

socialites alike. Appropriately themed, it has convenient

access to the grandstand and its own restrooms, essen-

tial for events that are packed to the rafters. Equipped

with its own tote station, two food serveries and a

U-shaped bar, Sea Cottage is a hive of activity and excite-

The Silver RingDurban’s best kept secret, the Silver Ring is the pride

of the Centre. The largest free-standing indoor facility

without columns in Durban, it is the model multipurpose

venue. With unobstructed views in a 1 900 square metre

space and a capacity of 2 000 people, the Silver Ring is

an unmatched option for large corporate functions, exhi-

bitions, concerts, extravagant weddings or parties.

Free-hanging locally produced chandeliers and a balcony

The Centenary Room

Tucked away in the heart of the Centre, the Centenary

Room is equipped with stunning 1970’s-esque mahogany

finishes and service counters catering for banquets, wed-

to 200 guests and is one of more intimate settings in

The Champions Room

modate 120 stands, the Champions Room is a standout

The Greyville Concert Arena

The Greyville Concert Arena is the premiere venue for

square metre stage which has the ability to be extend-
