This year’s conference will take place on the premises of Barce- lona’s science museum, CosmoCaixa, and we hope the event will be accompanied by the pleasant weather we usually have in our city at this time of the year. And although our conference schedule will be fairly busy, we also hope you’ll make time to enjoy some of the many leisure activities Barcelona offers, whether that means sun- bathing on one of our beaches, visiting our art museums (just for starters there are the Joan Miró Foundation, the Picasso Museum and Barcelona’s modern art museum, the MACBA), taking in Barce- lona’s vibrant nightlife or simply wandering around the city centre or down on the seafront. Note that as well as the Conference programme, this booklet con- tains practical details on the venue and how to get there, and useful information about the city and our Gala Dinner. We plan to do our very best to make your stay in Barcelona as pleasant and fruitful as possible, both scientifically and socially, and to foster our personal and scientific networks. And remember, if you have any questions to ask or suggestions to make, we’ll be waiting for you at the reception desk. Enjoy the conference and see you there! Appendix A. I want to thank Don Saklofske, Frank Spinath, and the Board of Directors on behalf of the AIIDI members for their support to the AIIDI. The Psychology of Individual Differences enjoys a very long tradition here in Spain, coming back to Juan Huarte de San Juan in the XVI Century. Since the beginning of the ISSID Journal in 1980, researchers from Spain have published more than 250 arti- cles in Personality and Individual Differences (PAID). Only three countries have published a larger amount of papers (Canada, USA, and Germany). This proves our intense involvement in this area. Scientists from Spain working on individual differences were brought together in 1996 for the founding of the Sociedad Española para Investigación de las Diferencias Individuales (SEIDI, Spanish Society for the Research on Individual Differences; http:// www.uam.es/gruposinv/seidi/index.html), precursor of the AIIDI. Professor Eysenck was then here in Barcelona supporting this small but active and passionate scientific society. Ever since, our Society celebrates a successful meeting every year. We are especially proud of the fact that many international research- ers have joined us over the last years. To name a few, R. Plomin, I. Deary, P. Costa, R. Haier, R. Jung, E.B. Hunt, D. Boomsma, T. Bouchard, R. Lynn, D. Lubinski, A. Jensen, etc. I take this opportu- nity to thank my predecessors (Professors P. Sánchez UCM, A. Andrés-Pueyo – UB and R. Colom – UAM) for their excellent work. In 2010, AIIDI was born and now we are working hard to incor- porate researchers from Latin America, which will ideally increase the exchange of scientific knowledge and promote collaboration across-countries. I’m sure you will find this Conference very stimulating both from a professional and a personal perspective. Finally, let me thank Dr. D. Gallardo-Pujol and the organizing committee for their excellent work assembling all the endless stuff. The AIIDI feels very proud of you.
