Our School - From the Principals Desk
Welcome back for 2020!!! This year we welcome one of the largest Year 7 cohorts that we have had for quite some time with over 50 students starting the year. This is a big increase on previous years which is great to see. We will once again start the year with a number of staff positions to fill. The year began with the need for a PDHPE teacher and a Music teacher. Mrs McBean will take up the PDHPE position at the beginning of Week 5 and I would like to welcome her to our school and community. The DoE are still currently trying to fill the music position and I look forward to making an announcement when it is filled. Ms Rees (Deputy Principal), Lindy Moon (Head Teacher Access), Mel Hughes (Head Teacher Wellbeing), Kylie Hope (Head Teacher English/HSIE) and myself will continue to relieve in those positions until they are filled permanently. I would like to thank those staff for their ongoing hard work and dedication. Unfortunately, due to bush fires and uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus the annual Year 12 excursion to Canberra and Wollongong for University visits was postponed and plans are underway to make that happen later in the year. Our first feel good story for the year has been Caitlin Keen representing Western at the State Carnival for the Open Girls Cricket Team. At time of writing I have not got any results but we will share those when they come through. Congratulations to Caitlin on making the team and Good Luck chasing selection in the State Team. Late last year schools throughout NSW were provided with information regarding their targets for 2020. Our targets are in Reading, Numeracy and Attendance. To achieve these targets the school has added extra support programs in Reading and Numeracy for targeted students. In relation to Attendance we have allocated more resources to Year Advisors to support students and families in attending school. Can I please encourage families to provide a note when students are absent to ensure that absences are recorded as explained rather than unexplained. We will also be focusing on part day absences. Being late to school and leaving early impacts significantly on learning. Missing one period per day equals 200 periods a year or the equivalent of 40 days a year! Small amounts add up. If your child is finding it difficult getting to school please make early contact with your Year Advisor. Best Wishes for 2020

Our School - Relieving Deputy Report
Welcome back to 2020. Each year we as a school set targets to drive improvement in our learning community. This year one of our main targets is to improve attendance at Condobolin High School. Our attendance team is meeting each fortnight to look at the data and patterns of attendance and in turn are referring students to Year Advisors for touch base calls, in school follow ups and on the ground support. In 2020 we will continue to recognise students who have excellent attendance, last year we handed out the most above 95% attendance awards in our Merit Assembly, I look forward to seeing more of our amazing students receive this award in Term 4. We love nothing more than seeing our students at school engaged in meaningful learning. If your child is away for any reason, please let us know, reply to the text message, phone the school or send a note with your child when they return. I look forward to working with all of our parents, carers and our students to improve attendance at CHS in 2020. Melissa Rees Relieving Deputy Principal

At the end of last year, Year 9 Ag students participated in an Angora Goat Education Day at West Wyalong on December 5 Students learnt about the characteristics of Mohair and how these change as the animal ages. The art of parading a goat is skill the students also learnt. The students the took part in a small competition on parading, Congratulations Ashley Folkers who was awarded 2 place During the day the students also participated in a Young Judges Competition. The students had to judge fleece and animals. Congratulations to Noah Turner and Kinsley Wood who placed 2nd and 3rd. Our School - Room 1 Term 1 Update
It has been fantastic to see all the students back at school and progressing to their next year of study.
The students have settled well into their school routines and have been busy navigating electives and new study opportunities.
In English the class is working on a comparative study of the film and novel ‘Wonder’ by R.J. Palacio, with the theme of kindness and acceptance, towards and of each other, underpinning the narrative. The students are developing an understanding of the collaborative processes between the Author, Film Production team and actors.
Discovering the role of Music in our world has been an adventure for the Stage 4 students. The Boomwackers enabled the class to play Ed Sheeran to Mary and her little lamb, with lots of laughs in between. Understanding how rhythms and beats play a role in the mechanical world to detect optimum functioning or faults in motors was demonstrated through a sewing task… and sometimes ‘We get by with a little help from our friends’…
A special thank you to Lorraina for visiting our class during Lunch 3 to sew with Zakayla.
In Science we have been investigating ecosystems. The recent rain has supplied various stages of the mosquito and a variety of new plants and insects for our microscopic work.
Mrs Deb Chambers and Mrs Emma-Rae Baxter.
