Original Schmidt Rebound Test Hammer (ASTM D58B-14, ISRM)

The quality of concrete is mainly judged by its compressive strength directly affecting the load-bearing capacity and durability of concrete structures. Proceq invented the Original Schmidt, the world’s fi rst and now most widely used test hammer for analyzing the compressive strength of concrete properties.

The Original Schmidt will hit the concrete at a defi ned energy whereas its rebound is dependent on the hardness of the concrete and is measured by the instrument. The Original Schmidt is available in models with different impact energies. Each test hammer is designed for a specifi c test application, in order to meet the needs of the customers to investigate a wide range of material types and sizes, such as bridge decks, thin walls, cast stone components or small components.

Product Variations• Type N Original Schmidt: Rebound values are read from a scale for

subsequent calculation of the mean. Compressive strength values can be read from a conversion diagram

• Type NR Original Schmidt: Rebound values are recorded as a bar chart on a paper strip which has a capacity for 4’000 test impacts

• Type L Original Schmidt: Handling equals type N, but the type L offers an impact energy three times smaller

• Type LR Original Schmidt: Handling equals type NR, but with impact energy three times smaller. The LR also features a paper strip for recording up to 4’000 test impacts without reloading

Applications• The Original Schmidt is used for the non-destructive measurement of the concrete/mortar

compressive strength characteristics• Control of uniform concrete quality• Detection of weak spots in the concrete• The type L/LR Original Schmidt operates with signifi cant lower impact energy, making this test

hammer the ideal option for testing thin walled items with a thickness between 50 to 100 mm (2 in. and 4 in.) or for analyzing small components.

• It is suitable for examining cast stone components which are sensitive to impact. In rock mechanics, the type L/LR Original Schmidt is commonly used for the classifi cation of rock cores and brittle rock

Pull O Testing

DY-2 Family

The Proceq DY-2 Family of automated pull-off testers covers the complete range of pull-off applications with unmatched ease of operation and the ability to store a complete record of the test.

Pull-off or adhesion testing is one of the most widely used test methods in the construction industry. This is refl ected in the huge number of standards dedicated to the method covering applications such as adhesion of various concrete coatings to testing the tensile strength of concrete.

The DY-2 is further unique in that it records every single test parameter required by the specifi cation.

Major infl uences on the result of the pull-off testIt has long been known that one of the major infl uences on the result of a pull-off test is the operator infl uence in the application of a constant load rate. The DY-2 with its integrated feedback controlled motor removes this variable completely by providing a fully automated test at a constant load rate which can be verifi ed.

Adhesion testingThe strength of the tensile shows the composition of the surface straight after measuring. Like this, concrete coating can be tested due to the tensile strength which also shows the concrete’s casting.

Applications• The pull off tester measures the adhesive strength of applied coatings e.g. plastic or concrete

coatings, mortars, plasters, bituminous coats• Determining the surface strength of concrete and other materials• The pull off tester is ideal for the evaluation of tensile strength in concrete renovation• Pull-off method used on an asphalt binder, test on skim coat• Bridges and highways testing• Determining the pull off strength of applied coatings on composite materials with Proceq

DY-225

Product VariationsThree versions of the DY-2 are available differentiated by maximum pulling force. This cover the complete range of pull-off applications (examples for ø 50mm tests discs):

• DY-206 has increased accuracy for low strength applications such as testing adhesive strength of mortars and renders.

• DY-216 covering most applications.• DY-225 for very high strength applications such as testing of fi bre reinforced polymers bonded

to concrete structures or testing the bond strength of repair and overlay materials.• Pull off tester Dyna Estrich is specially designed to measure the adhesive strength of fl oor

coatings.

• Time and date of the test• Test disc size• Maximum load applied

• Automatic calculation of bond strength• Applied load rate with graphical record• Complete time of test

Moisture & Corrosion AnalysisReinforced concrete will invariably be subjected to a corrosion process that ultimately leads to a total failure of the structure. In the fi rst stage, aggressive elements penetrate into the structure. On reaching the rebar, high concentrations of those elements attack the passive layer of hydrated iron oxide that protects the rebar against corrosion. Rust begins to form which eventually leads to structural failure. Therefore corrosion monitoring is essential. Early diagnosis and monitoring of seemingly healthy concrete cover allows pre-emptive corrosion control measures to reduce unwanted risks and signifi cantly reduce maintenance costs.

Canin+ - Corrosion Analyzing Instrument

Corrosion Analysis allows the contractor to limit the maintenance tasks on reinforced concrete to the areas where it is really required. The Canin+ is the fastest instrument for corrosion analysis, offering a practical, cost-effective approach to the investigation of reinforced concrete. Corrosion analysis with the Canin+ allows a rapid, comprehensive test of the site and provides a fast assessment of locations where corrosion is likely to take place. Corrosion analysis with the half-cell potential method: accurate fi eld potential measurements aid in detecting active corrosion in rebar. Immediate presentation of test area and reading directly on the instrument’s display.

Applications• Accurate location of areas of active rebar corrosion• Silver Chloride / Calomel Electrode• Potential fi eld measurement on art• Corrosion Analysis – Electrical measurements for the monitoring of reinforced elements

exposed to stray currents

The right Probe for the ApplicationWith its comprehensive selection of probes, the Canin+ system is ideally suited both for localized checks and also for the rapid scanning of large sites where access time is limited.

Standard Copper/Copper Sulphate Rod Electrode for localized measurements. 1-Wheel Electrode for fast scanning of large areas.4-Wheel Electrode for maximum measurement speed on large areas.

Canin+ is ideally suited for assessment of corrosion potential on large areas for 8,000 m2 (83,000 sq.ft.) or multiples thereof, depending on the individual selectable grid size. 235,000 values can be stored in the indicating device. Up to 240 measurement values are displayed at a time in easy-to read grey-scale allowing an on-site plausibility check of the readings. A menu-driven approach facilitates simple operation using just nine keys. The display with backlight allows the user to work on sites with low visibility, e.g. underground car-parks.

Hygropin - Moisture Meter

Excess moisture in concrete can be fatal to a fl oor covering installation. To prevent mildew and major damage, the fl ooring industry requires smart solutions to check surfaces for moisture prior to installing fl oor coverings or coatings.

The moisture meter Hygropin offers the perfect solution to identify, test and monitor moisture in concrete. Due to the small and fast moisture sensors of the humidity meter, diagnosing moisture according to ASTM F2170-09 is quicker and easier than ever before. The relative humidity test requires placing a measuring sleeve at a specifi c depth. This can be done either by drilling a hole or by pre-installing cast holes in fresh concrete. This moisture meter provides the smallest available sensor on the market, minimizing damage to the surface and greatly reducing the installation efforts required to obtain accurate sub-surface moisture readings.

• Depending on the settings this moisture meter is able to display relative humidity, temperature and calculated psychrometric parameters.

• Fast measuring time• Highly integrated sensor with only 5 mm / 0.3” diameter • Moisture meter shows trend indicators for each parameter• The two independent sensors channels of the moisture meter can measure ambient and

concrete characteristics simultaneously.

ApplicationsThe moisture meter Hygropin can be used in dry as well as in fresh concrete.• Drilling an 8 mm hole in the concrete is enough for placing a measuring sleeve• The add-on for wet concrete allows pre-installation of measuring sleeves as cast holes in fresh

concrete.

Product VariationsThe moisture meter offers two different probes:• The in-situ probe measures directly where the moisture hides: below the surface of the

concrete• The optional ambient probe simplifi es capturing the environmental parameters

The humidity standard tube allows an easy on-site functional and calibration check of the moisture meter.

Resipod Resistivity Meter

Resipod is a fully integrated 4-point Wenner probe, designed to measure the electrical resistivity of concrete in a completely non-destructive test. It is the most accurate instrument available, extremely fast and stable and packaged in a robust, waterproof housing designed to operate in a demanding site environment. The Resipod is the successor of the classic CNS Farnell Resistivity Meter.

Surface resistivity measurement provides extremely useful information about the state of a concrete structure. Not only has it been proven to be directly linked to the likelihood of corrosion and the corrosion rate, recent studies have shown that there is a direct correlation between resistivity and chloride diffusion rate and even to determination of early compressive strength. This makes it one of the most versatile NDT methods for concrete. Resipod complies with the proposed AASHTO standard for a surface resistivity test for estimating hardened concrete permeability. The Windows based software ResipodLink, developed by Proceq, allows the user to view and manipulate the data on a connected PC. It also allows a variable contact spacing to be set.

• Fully integrated surface resistivity instrument• Highest resolution available for a surface resistivity instrument• Available with 1.5” (compliant with the AASHTO standard) or 50 mm probe spacing• Current fl ow indication and poor contact indication• Hold, save and delete function, with onboard memory• USB connection and dedicated PC software• Designed to fl oat (waterproof)• Allows replacement of standard tips with accessories

Applications• Estimation of the likelihood of corrosion• Indication of corrosion rate• Correlation to chloride permeability• On site assessment of curing effi ciency• Determination of zonal requirements for cathodic protection systems• Identifi cation of wet and dry areas in a concrete structure• Indication of variations in the water/cement ratios within a concrete structure• Identifi cation of areas within a structure most susceptible to chloride penetration• Correlation to early compressive strength and to water permeability of rock

Product VariationsResipod Geometric (SR) MethodThe AASHTO TP 95-11 standard is limited to particular sample geometries and a maximum aggregate size of 1.5”, 38mm. Resipod Geometric is designed to comply with the latest research intended to extend the current limits of this AASHTO standard.Resipod Geometric is supplied with a variable spacing probe that can accommodate larger aggregate sizes. It also allows the user to enter geometric correction factors via the ResipodLink software to give the correct resistivity reading directly on the instrument.

Resipod Bulk Resistivity (BR) MethodThe Bulk Resistivity test is an alternative method where the sample resistivity is measured between electrical plates placed at either end of the sample. The geometry factor is very simple and the test is rapid to perform, with similar advantages as the surface resistivity test. The Resipod Bulk Resistivity kit provides everything necessary for carrying out this test on standard 4”, 100mm diameter cylinders.

Moisture & Corrosion Analysis

Resipod Bulk Resistivity

The bulk resistivity test in an alternative method to the surface resistivity test for quality control of standard 4”x8” (100x200mm) concrete cylinder. Resipod Bulk Resistivity provides all of the standard Resipod functionality and in addition comes supplied with the necessary accessories for carrying out the bulk resistivity test, including a stand for convenient measuring plates and cables.

Accessory: Extension Cable Set

The extension cable set allows the user to vary the space between the rpboes. This is particularly useful when measuring on concrete mixes with large aggregates, as the probe spacing should exceed the maximum aggregate size. The desired probe spacing can be set up using the ResipodLink software and communicated to the Resipod. This sets the necessary correction value to the calculated resistivity. The holder provided with the set allows for probe spacing up to 3.3” (85mm). The Resipod software allows for larger spacing.

Permeability Analysis

Torrent - Permeability Tester

The “Covercrete” is the layer of concrete that protects the rebar from aggressive elements that cause corrosion. The quality of the covercrete layer can be greatly affected by installation practises. Segregation, poor compaction or curing will lead to increased permeability reducing the resistance to the ingress of aggressive media in the gaseous or liquid state, directly affecting the durability of the structure.

The Torrent air permeability tester allows a completely non destructive test of the covercrete quality on site as described in the Swiss standard SIA 262/1. A measurement of the concrete permeability with Proceq’s permeability tester Torrent takes 2 to 12 minutes. The permeability data can be analyzed easily afterwards from the instrument’s display.

• The data is automatically collected by the Torrente permeability tester• The quality class of the concrete cover of dry concrete can be read from a table using the kT

value• In the case of moist concrete, kT is combined with electrical concrete resistance ρ (rho) and

the quality class is determined from a nomogram• Optional resistance Wenner-probe to correct the infl uence of concrete moisture is available

with the permeability tester.

Applications• The Torrent permeability tester determines the quality of concrete cover• The Torrent permeability tester assesses the durability of a concrete structure

The following standards can be applied to the permeability tester:• SN 505 252/1, Annex E

The permeability of concrete at the surface is a major factor in determining the durability of concrete structures. A reliable permeability test of the concrete cover is therefore crucial – not only in the laboratory but also at the building site. One factor determining the durability of concrete is the ease with which air can penetrate into concrete.
