Welcome to the tenth issue of Concrete News, which highlights the achievements of the Civil Engineering Department at Nandha Engineering College. Even Semester 2017-18 was a semester of great achievements and carried on the momentous journey of the department Vision. As always, this semester also saw our students bringing laurels to the institute by winning prestigious awards and prizes in various competitions. MOTIVATIONAL SESSION ON HUMAN

ABILITIES

ICI-NEC has organized a Motivational Session on

Human Abilities on 22nd

December 2017. The

session was handled by Dr. J. Deenathayalan,

Principal, Gandhi Arts and Science College,

Sathyamangalam. In this session he gave the

excellent motivational speech to the students. He

said that, civil engineers are the creators because

they construct buildings, shelter which is one of

the basic needs of human society. The main

motivational factors of his speech are towards

learning Personal, Perfectionist, Parental/Family,

Job/Career and Social Acceptance with social

responsibilities

SEMINAR ON ACI AND IT’S IMPORTANCE

Department of Civil Engineering, Nandha

Engineering College was organized an “Seminar

on ACI and it’s Importance” on 15th

December

2017. Ms. Radhika Markan, President - India

Chapter of American Concrete Institute (ICACI),

Mumbai gave brief explanation about ICACI & it’s

Importance. And she explained about the benefits

of membership in ICACI. The membership will

help to easy access of articles as well as books in

recent trends and technologies related to concrete.

She also explained about concrete cube contest

organized by ICACI. Students were enormously

thanking their Management, Principal, Dean and

Faculty Members of Civil Engineering

Department, Nandha Engineering College for

arranging this seminar.

SEMINAR ON MECHANICS OF FLUIDS

AND IT’S APPLICATIONS

ICI-NEC has organized a seminar on Mechanics of

Fluids and it’s Applications on 14th

Feb 2018.

Dr. T. Pradeep, AsP, Kongu Engineering College

offered a seminar for the 2nd

Year students. He

gave lecturing about Mechanics of Fluids and it’s

Applications for End Semester Examinations point

of view and interacted with the students. He gave



the concept of Fluid Mechanics on each topic in

their syllabus and solving the problems, he also

discussed about important problems which has

been already given in previous year question

papers.He also taught the students an easy

alternative method for solving the problems.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO COCHIN

ICI-NEC has arranged Industrial Visit for the

Third Year Students to M.A Constructions, Cochin

on 17th

Feb 2018. Through this visit students

gained knowledge about the basic construction

principles, techniques and new construction

technologies. The total area of the construction site

is around 1,70,000 Sq.ft. The total built-up area is

1,30,000 Sq.ft. The estimated project cost for the

construction is around 35 Crores. The type of

foundation used in the construction site is pile

foundation. The students got very good exposure to

do construction with new construction techniques

for major projects. Tower crane is used for

transporting the construction materials. Finally the

students thanked the Project Manager and Site

Engineers for their guidance.

NATIONAL LEVEL TECHNICAL SYMPOSIUM

ICI-NEC has organized “A National Level

Technical Symposium REICONS 2K18” on 26th

March 2018. Er.K.P.Vetriselvan, Geo-Design India

Private Limited, Coimbatore & Er.V.Mohanraj,

Building Doctor, Green Infrastructure were invited

as the special guests for the function. Around 50

students from various colleges were participated in

this programme. In this session both guests gave

the excellent motivational speech to the students

and News Letter for the Academic Year 2017-2018

(Odd Semester) has been released. Various events

such as Paper Presentation, Poster Presentation,

Code Cracking, CADD Contest and Quiz have

been conducted for the students from various

colleges. The main motivational factors of this

program are to expose their talents.



R&D PROPOSALS

Two Skill Development Training Programme has

sanctioned for Mason General and Plumbing by

AICTE - PMKVY for an amount of Rs. 7,70,000/-

for Dr. EKM, PK, KS, PS, SG and GA.

S.Arun Prakash, T.Ajithkumar, T.Gopalakrishnan

and K.S.Gowthamraja submitted a student’s project

proposal of Foundation for Advancement of

Education and Research (FAER), Bangalore in the

topic of Effective Utilization of Micro-organisms in

Decomposable of Solid Waste for an amount of

Rs. 10,000/- on 9th Nov 2017.

K.C.Denesh, AP along with students namely

S. R. Ashim Jerin, S. Erfan, S. Kathiravan and

K. Naveen Kumar submitted a student’s project

proposal of Foundation for Advancement of

Education and Research, Bangalore in the topic of

Biogas as Renewable Energy from Organic Waste

for an amount of Rs. 10,000/- on 9th Nov 2017.

S.K.Gowtham, AP along with students namely

R.Hari, T.Mohanram, S.Mathiyalakan and J.Navin

submitted a student’s project proposal of

Foundation for Advancement of Education and

Research, Bangalore in the topic of Self-

Purification Capacity of Cauvery River for an

amount of Rs. 10,000/- on 9th Nov 2017.

Dr.E.K.Mohanraj and S.Karthika has submitted ISTE-

STTP on “An Integrated Approach of Engineers

Towards: Water, Food, Energy and Climate Nexus in

a Changing World” at AICTE, New Delhi for an

amount of Rs.3,40,000/- on 24th Nov 2017.

submitted FDP on “Contemporary Design of Fast

Track Concrete-Precast and Pre-stressed” at
