Vibrant Music Teaching

HOW TO PLAY• Choose either staff or keyboard cards.• Place all game counters on the start space.• Take turns to draw a card from the pile. If the chord is in root position, stay on the road. If the chord is in 1st inversion, divert to the red railway tracks. If the card is in 2nd inversion, take the blue footpath.• Players must name the chord before they move forward.• Continue diverting between the different paths all the way around the board.• The winner is the first to reach the finish space using a root position card.

ASSEMBLYTo assemble this game:

• Print out the game board (pages 3-6). Cut along the dotted lines and tape together.• Staff game cards:

• Print out the staff game cards (pages 7-22) double sided.• Cut the game cards along the dotted lines and laminate if desired.

• Keyboard game cards:• Print out the keyboard game cards (page 23-32) double sided.• Cut the game cards along the dotted lines and laminate if desired.

• You will also need a game counter (eraser, button, small toy) for each player.

LEARNING OBJECTIVESInversion Diversions will help students to review not only the chord names but also the inversions of all the major chords. The criss cross nature of gameplay is a lot of fun, and also reinforces this concept.
