    AgentFM-200 is an odourless, colourless,liquefied compressed gas. It is stored as aliquid and dispensed into the hazard as acolourless, electrically nonconductivevapour that is clear and does not obscurevision. It leaves no residue and hasacceptable toxicity for use in occupiedspaces at design concentration. FM-200extinguishes a fire by a combination ofchemical and physical mechanisms. FM-200 does not displace oxygen andtherefore is safe for use in occupiedspaces without fear of oxygen deprivation.FM-200s mechanism of extinguishing firesis considered active. Its primary action isthrough physically cooling the fire at themolecular level. FM-200 belongs to thesame class of agents used in therefrigeration industry; therefore, it is anefficient heat transfer agent. FM-200removes the thermal energy from the fireto the extent where the combustionreaction cannot sustain itself.

    ApplicationFM-200 provides superior fire protection ina wide range of applications from sensitiveelectrical equipment to industrialapplications using flammable liquids.FM-200 is ideal for applications whereclean-up of other media presents aproblem, where weight versus suppressionpotential is a factor, where an electricallynon-conductive medium is needed andwhere people compatibility is an overridingfactor. When environmental impact is aconsideration, FM-200 is particularlyuseful. It has zero ozone-depletingpotential, low global warming potential anda short atmospheric lifetime. Thesecharacteristics make it suitable not only fornew installations using total floodingsystems, but also for Halon 1301replacement applications.

    FeaturesComposition and Materials The basicsystem consists of extinguishing agentstored in high strength alloy steelcylinders. Various types of actuators,either manual or automatic, are availablefor release of the agent into the hazardarea. The agent is distributed anddischarged into the hazard area through anetwork of piping and nozzles. Eachnozzle is drilled with a fixed orificedesigned to deliver a uniform discharge tothe protected area. On hazards where twoor more cylinders are needed, a pipemanifold assembly is employed orcylinders are positioned around the room.Additional equipment includes Controlpanels, releasing devices, remote manualpull stations, corner pulleys, door closures,pressure trips, bells and alarms, andpneumatic switches. All or some arerequired when designing a total system.

    FM-200 Agent FM-200s mechanism ofextinguishing fires is considered active. Itsprimary action is through physically cooling

    Electric Actuator Electric actuation ofan agent cylinder is accomplished by anelectric actuator. In auxiliary or overrideapplications, a manual lever actuator canbe installed on top of the actuator.Detection System The Concept FireSuppression Ltd Control System is usedwhere an automatic electronic controlsystem is required to actuate the FM-200system. This control system is used tocontrol a single fixed fire suppression oralarm system based on inputs receivedfrom fire detection devices. The detectioncircuits can be configured usingcoincidence or independent inputs. Thecontrol system is designed to BS5839 orBS6266.Nozzles Nozzles are designed to directthe discharge ofFM-200 agent using thestored pressure from the cylinders.Nozzles are available in 180 and 360discharge patterns from 10mm to 50mm.The system design specifies the nozzleand orifice size to be used for proper flowrate and distribution pattern. The nozzleselection depends on the hazard andlocation to be protected.
