“BCAAS THEREFORE PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN ENDURANCE TRAINING”
B C A AThey are essential for healthy muscle metabolism and represent 35% of muscle volume. BCAA are 3 amino acids: Leucine, isoleucine and valine.

They are essential amino acids that cannot be pro-duced by the body and must be ingested from the diet.
BCAAs therefore play an important role in endur-ance training. They are the third most important source of energy after carbohydrates and fatty acids. During long exer-cises, the muscles convert a large proportion of BCAAs to alanine, which is used in hepatic neogluco-genesis. If BCAA concen-tration becomes too low,
the muscle self-destructs in order to provide the missing fuel.
They also have an impact on glutamine metabolism. Athletes who took BCAA supplements had plasma glutamine levels that were almost identical before and after a competition, while in those who did not supplement, levels dropped by 22.8%.
One study showed that 90 days' supplementation with BCAAs and glutamine by a group of rugby players significantly improved post-exercise muscle recovery and also increased stamina. They also have a stimulating effect on the immune system: when given to tri-athletes, they increased production of interleukin-2 and inter-feron following intense physical activity, thus protecting against the immune-weakening effects of such physical effort.
BCAAs also seem to ben-efit sedentary individuals, by regulating the influx of tryptophan in the brain and so helping to prevent central fatigue. When taken before or during exercise, BCAAs help preserve muscle tissue and provide energy. Taken after exercise, together with glutamine, they speed up muscle tissue regeneration and significantly improve recovery.

TEAM COMPRESSPORT ICELAND O N A W I N N I N G S T R E A K
LAST WEEKEND MEMBERS OF TEAM COMPRESSPORT ICELAND WERE BUSY PARTICIPATING IN DIFFERENT SPORTS. INGVAR ÓMARSSON WON THE LAST CYCLE CROSS COMPETITION OF THE WINTER SERIES. THE COURSE WAS VERY DEMANDING AND TECHNICAL WHICH SUITED INGVAR WELL BUT HE WON ALL THE FOUR COMPETITIONS THIS WINTER.ARNAR PÉTURSSON WON THE ACTAVIS 5K WINTER RUNNING SERIES BY GETTING 3RD PLACE IN THE LAST RUN OF THE SERIES THIS WINTER. HE IS AIMING AT LONGER DISTANCES THIS YEAR AND THE 5KM IS A GOOD PREPARATON FOR BUILDING UP SPEED ENDURANCE.
THERE ARE MANY EVENTS AHEAD IN ICELAND AND OF COURSE TEAM COMPRESSPORT WILL BE PRE-SENT IN VARIETY OF DIFFERENT SPORTS, SUCH AS CROSSFIT, RUNNING, TRIATHLON AND CYCLING.

NATASCHA SCHMITT FOR THE SECOND TIME "QUEEN OF TRAIL"!
After her fist victory last year In Dortmund and her fisrt Queen of Indoor Trail, Natascha won the "new" Keep On Running in Alzenau. Same concept with a three days event but a really different race for the young triathlete a couple of days after her first victory in Portoclom. "The most difficult part of the race was the lot a very muddy down hills. Something I must go, it was impos-sible to run" said Natascha after the second and third race days. A nice "cross training" before the next triathlon and a lot of motivation for sure. Keep on racing Natascha :-)

CROSS COUNTRY SKYING IN SPRING :-)
Thomas Rosse is a very enthusiastic trail runner, also participating and finishing the UTMB last year and also a very enthusias-tic cross country skier. Last winter he used the very long winter and the lot of snow in his region to prepare the trail season. Also as the temperature began to go up, the snow was always there! No problem for Thomas and no reason to stop the training: short running tights, Q for quads, R2 and let's go :-) Thanks for the great pictures Thomas and see you soon on the trail :-)

FLO NEW MARATHON PB AND FASTET GERMAN ATHLETE IN BONN

Fantastic race and fantastic new PB for our "front runner Florian Neuschwan-der in Bonn last Sunday. After his first success by TRAIL and ULTRA races, Flo decided to run again a "fast" mara-thon in spring before to start again the specific ultra training. After his third place by the german championship last year in Hamburg, Florian was one of the most interviewed athletes in Bonn! A lost of pressure but no problem for our really cool friend from Trier. Taff race alone not so far away from the african leaders but alone against the wind but great pace, great timing, everything perfect, 5th overall, best german athlete and new PB after the 42.195km in 2:20:28! Yeeeessss :-)

NINA BECAME A STRONG COMPETITORS A THE LAST MINUTE WITH NICOLE LEDER. LOTHAR'S WIFE, SIX TIME IRONMAN CHAMPION IS KNOWN AS A FAST RUNNER BUT NINA WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE LEAD DURING THE FIRST 5K LAP AND CAME IN T1 30" BEFORE NICOLE. ON THE BIKE, NINA STRONGEST DISCI-PLINE, SHE CAN INCREASE HER LEADERSHIP TO 5 MINUTES, ENOUGH TO CONTROL THE RACE DURING THE LAST 5K RUN AND TAKE THE FIRST PLACE. CONGRATULATION NINA :-)

FROM MARCH 30 - APRIL 12 2013, CHARLOTTE TEOH JOINED A SMALL GROUP OF ULTRA RUNNERS AT THE 2013 INTERNATIONAL TOUR DE TAIWAN ULTRA MARATHON.
PARTICIPANTS HAD TO COVER 1,100KM AROUND TAIWAN OVER 14 STAGES, COMPLETING AN AVERAGE OF 75KM A DAY. CHARLOTTE USED THE COMPRESSPORT FORQUADS, R2S AND PRO RACING ARMSLEEVES. SHE BATTLED FATIGUE, LACK OF SLEEP, THE TERRAIN AND ILLNESS THROUGHOUT THE 14 STAGES, SHOWING GREAT STRENGTH AND WILL POWER EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. SHE EVENTUALLY FINISHED THE ULTRA MARATHON IN 4TH PLACE! CON-GRATULATIONS TO CHARLOTTE ON HER AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT!

You probably never heard of an ultra trail in Croatia? You couldn't have :) For the first time two local clubs, SRK Alba and SD Trickeri, organized an ultra trail race called 100 Miles of Istria. 235 competitors from 15 European countries witnessed that Croatia and Istria have something to offer in this area. The event con-sisted of two races. The main race was 164 km long, with a total elevation gain of 5700 meters, started in Umag on April 12 at 9 p.m. The short race was 104 km long with total elevation gain of 4300 m and started in Buzet on April 13 at 7 a.m. The race was a com-bination of all the other Euro-pean races. From the start at the Western coast of Istria competitors were lead through medieval towns, olive groves and vineyards, across all the mountain peaks of Istria to the Eastern coast, in the village of Koromačno, passing through all possible sorts of reliefs and terrains. According to the competitors, the trail was all but easy, very steep, mostly pure single track with lots of obstacles that obstructed the competitors from gaining their usual pace, so renown racers were not as successful as they usually are. The Italian racer Francesca Canepa, that was expected to take the first place, did not make it and gave up at 80th km, as did the renown Austrian

Thomas Bosnjak, who, due to problems with respiratory tract, gave up at 64th km. The opportunity to win was seized by the hosts - Mauricio Križmanić with the total time of 24:53:55 and the best female racer Tadeja Kušec with the total time of 34:02:01. The second place was won by Italian competitor Enrico Viola, and the third by Matevž Slapničar from Slovenia. From the female competitors, the second place was won by the Hungarian racer Anna Orsi, while the third was won by Marjeta Gomilšak form
Slovenia. In the shorter race the first place was won by the host competitor Ivan Blečić with the total time of 14:53:19, while from the female competitors the first place was won by Nataša Aljančić from Slovenia with the total time of 18:53:34. The race served as a qualifi-cation for UTMB, the finish-ers gained 3 or 4 points for the most prestigious race in Europe. The competitors will have the opportunity to win these points also next year in the second edition of 100
Miles of Istria which will be held form 11 to 13 of April. As announced, the second edition of this race will also be a qualification race for the famous American race West-ern States. Compressport proudly supported this race and provided for the awards for the best competitors. Congratulations to all participants in the first edition of Run Tour AVIANCA, a racing event organized by Colombia’s leading airline. The event took place in the city of Bogota during March 2013. Team Compressport member Oscar Mendoza achieved a new personal best time in the 10K category.

Compressport congratulates Colombian Pablo Gomez for his third place in the Iron Man 70.3 Texas, 18-24 year category. He also arrived second place in the general category of the Half Ironman Corpus Christi - Republic of Texas Triathlon. Way to go Pablo! Colombia is proud for your achievement!

PERTH TRAIL SERIES
The 50km race consisted of two loops of the 25km +750mtr route. It was the nicest day for running that WA has seen for four months, after a record-breaking hot summer. Scott Hawker, who won the Kep 75k Ultra in 2012 and the Bunbury 50k in that same year and set a new course record at the Glasshouse 100k, set a course record time that will be hard to beat (3:50:55). Helen Roberts, winner of the female race, looked strong throughout her first ultra to finish in 5:08:47. Attached are some photos from the event which we provided prizes for.
