Flow of Scientific InformationFlow of Scientific Information

•researchers communicate new research through their peers via research networks, conference presentations, websites

•this is called “grey literature” – but basically term used to describe information like conference presentations, government publications

•anything that is not indexed in indexes like PubMed and is difficult to track down

•primary literature consists of the journal articles and formally published conferences

•they are formal methods of presenting primary research results.

•Secondary literature points to and summarizes the primary literature. Great starting point for your research. Provide an overview of the topic and usually an extensive bibliography

•Includes books and review articles

•Tertiary literature is the last stage of the publication process

•Generalized summary of research. Information is regarded as factual information in the scientific community•Includes textbooks, encyclopedias, handbooks, dictionaries
