b. definition
composition is an expansion of paragraph. If in writing paragraph our concern
is among a paragraph. Otherthing is the relationship of ideas or the relationship to
sentence to each other. In composition our concern includes also the relationship of
paragraph. According to the webster, “composition is an axercise in writing done as aschool work”. 1 this mean that composition often doneby student when they are ideas
studing writing composition at school. In a agood composition, not only the sentence
must be related to each other on logical way but also the paragraph. Prijambada states,
“ composition be written in the class and not at home”.2 At home the student might
keep on postponing in doing their assignment. In class however they are forced to
complete their work within a given period of time, that is around ninety minutes.
In addition, composition is a process of writing which involve some steps like
developing ideas revision and ains. All these steps are different so that before
beginning to write a composition the writer (teacher) should introduce an introduction
paragraph.
English composition is a subject which is difficult to each, because structure isan important aspect in composition in order to train the students to write a good
composition. The purpose of composition is to prepare the students to understand how
to write and how to put their idea in the sentence and combinethem in a composition,
so that their composition will be understood and appreciated as a good composition.
c. controlled composition
when students write a controlled composition exercise, they are given a
passage to work with. They write the given passage down. Making a few specified
changes in singular-plural, active-passive, present-past, direct-indirect are among
many exercise in composition. They are fixedor right answer for the items, so it is
possible for students to produce a composition that is 100 percent accurate. It is
different from free writing where students are asked to produce different answer from
each other.
Besides that questions and answer including controlled composition.
According to Raimes “This type of controlled writing is a good follow up exercise to
reading passage and given students more freedom in strucuring sentences”.3 Students
read and listen to a passage two or three times. Then, without futher reffering to the
passage, they are asked to write a composition based on a given set a question about
the material they have just studied. So, it make students easier to write any task that
they have to do.
