ROCK ON AT THE ROCKATHON



All you adventure junkies, gear up to rock on. Literally!The Great Hyderabad Adventure Club – GHAC in partnership with the Society to Save Rocks is conducting their third edition of the Hyderabad Rockathon.

Forget about lazing on Sunday and do something new like taking part in this Rockathon on Decemeber 14th from 7 am to 5 pm.

You're adventurous, you say? Then the walking, scrambling, bouldering, rappelling and rock balancing should be easy-breezy for you.

You can also sit out the hustle-bustle and settle for the rock quiz, photography, drawing or poetry about rocks. There's fun things for everyone!

While you soak in all the fun, be adventurous with a cause and let that cause be your reason to spread the message of protecting the 2500 million year old rocks that are in danger.

The GHAC is a Not for Profit Organization registered with the Government of India, that provides you with both adventure, fitness, outdoors and adventure activities.

BEAT THE HEAT, GET WET!



Hot, suffocating, and sweaty. Yep, summer is here already.

And what better way to fight summer than stay immersed in cool water all day!

With more than 30 water rides, Ocean Park is the best antidote for Hyderabad’s scorching summer heat.

Beat the heat while you doodle in the wave pool, but exercise discretion as to how far inside you can venture. The waves are quite strong, and can throw you off balance if you are not careful.

The 60-feet high ride has your heart beating faster as you zoom down at breakneck speed, splashing droplets of water on you while you''re at it. Slide down the tornado ride; you go so fast, you won’t even have time to catch your breath.



Break every traffic rule in the book with Bumping Cars, and see how long you can survive without hitting anybody; or do a complete somersault with Super Loop, the 360-degree roller coaster! This is one ride which is only for the strong at heart.

The ticket is priced at 200 rupees per person, and it covers almost all rides. Carry enough cash with you though, since the restaurant inside doesn’t accept cards.The water rides require wearing a nylon costume, and we recommend that you bring one along with you.

You’ll scream yourself hoarse in almost every water ride, but the experience is worth it. Grab the chance to outwit the sun, if only for a day.




SUN, SAND & JEEPS!


It was all about sun, sweat, mud, mood, and bewitching 4 x 4’s. We are talking about "Jeep Thrills", an off-roading event that took place at Hyderabad International Airport on Sunday, the 29th March.

Mazdayar Vatcha, the reigning INRC Champion from Hyderabad, who designed the track did a superb job. The track was a challenging ride of nearly 2 kilometers with 2 very steep uphills, annoying pits, a few steep downslopes, slimy puddles and to end a challenging uphill climb. Overall, there were 24 obstacles to be cleared which tested the drivers skill.

Despite it being close to 40 degrees, a lot of people showed up to participate and to cheer the participants. There were over 60 participants. Majority of the participants drove Jeeps and the remaining drove Gypsys and other 4X4s. We spotted a Range Rover, a VW Toureg and a Pajero.



The competition was split in two classes. One was strictly performance based while the other was a battle for best looks, maintenance and overall condition of the ride. There was a women''s class as well.

The layout also had decent space for a winching yard; an event that followed the obstacle challenge. This activity attracted a lot of participants who had winches installed on their jeeps.

Of all the winners, Neha Kapadia who stood first in women's category was noteworthy. For her first time participating in an event like this, she drove like a pro.

The event was well organized by Shams Ahmed and his team. Great effort!

The organizers plan to hold this event every 3 months or so. So keep an eye out for the next event and make sure to be there.
