Introduction This manual is designed to give the AIPT mentor the understanding of the individual
responsibilities of the student and the mentor, during the practical hours in the Complete
Personal Trainer Certificate 4 in Fitness. The mentor will be provided with the process of when the
student will contact you to initiate the practical hours and the tasks the student and mentor are
responsible for in those hours.
In this resource the mentor will gain an understanding of
1. The course resources the student will supply throughout the practical hours
2. The practical tasks the student will need to conduct
3. The tasks you the mentor will undertake/ observe
4. The process of recording your observations of the students’ performance of practical tasks
5. Submitting evidence of the completion of practical hours
6. Contacting the appropriate AIPT department

Course Structure Within the prescriptive tasks, AIPT have supplied students with practical instruction documents
that will outline the following:
Tasks required to be conducted
Timeframe of how long the tasks are required to be completed
Environment the task is required to be conducted
The mentor is to be aware that certain practical tasks must be conducted in a one on one
environment, due to the nature of the task. When the student is conducting certain practical tasks
can be conducted with your clients.
Throughout the practical placement the student will supply course resources and materials that
will have course codes and cluster names which are tied to practical specific tasks. To make you
‘the mentor’ feel more comfortable with the coding please see below:

Student Journey
Student enrols into AIPT Mentor and assigned their mentor.
Student Logs into their Learning Platform, and commences their Working with Children Check and First Aid Course
The student must successfully complete all Entry Requirement online theory assessment, prior to engaging the
mentors. This will give the student the foundation knowledge to be able to utilise the Mentors time prior to attending the first session
Student will make contact with Mentor to work out a time to complete the Entry Requirement Practical which suits both parties.
Student is responsible for bring all required course materials to each practical session. These include: practical instruction document, practical resources and workbook (accessed from MyeCampus)
When the Mentor finalises the Entry Requirement workbook, the student will upload into their MyeCampus profile, and will book and complete the Competency Call with an AIPT Qualified Trainer.
Once the student is deemed competent with the Entry Requirements by AIPT’s Qualified Trainer and Assessor the
student and Mentor will progress into the Certificate IV in Fitness component of the course.
Student will commence their Cert IV in Fitness by completing FA05 cluster online, the practical workbook will unlock on
their Learning platform
Student will contact the Mentor to organise a times to suit both parties, to complete the Cert IV in Fitness placement
The student is responsible for bring all resources required to undertake the practical, downloaded off their My eCampus profile
Once student completes all practical tasks and hours with mentor they will submit workbook with all required supplementary evidence to their MyeCampus profile.
Student submits workbook and supplementary evidence in one PDF file on their MyeCampus portal.
External assessor confirms workbook and supplementary evidence meets requirements and marks accordingly. Further submissions maybe required
Student resubmits workbook or evidence if required, once all elements of theory and practical tasks/assessments completed. Students will be booked for a final Competency Call.
Student will undertake the final Competency Call, and once deemed completed, they will commence the Graduation process.
Graduation checks are completed by AIPT and students will be issued with Qualifications/Statements of Attainment, for all units they are deemed competent within and all student fees are paid.

Mentor Journey
Mentor receives email notification allocating a student for mentoring including the mentor pack and confirms their availability.
The Mentor will be contacted by student to initiate the first practical hours which will cover the Entry Requirements of the Course. Mentor must confirm the student has completed all Entry Requirement theory assessments.
During the first few sessions the Mentor will observe the student conducting prescribed practical tasks and completes required section within the workbook, adding clear comments and ensuring all sections are signed and
sufficiently marked off.
When the Mentor is satisfied the student has met the Entry Requirements to industry standards, they will confirm to the student they are ready to submit the first workbook for marking, and will need to book their Competency Call
Once the student is deemed competent with the Entry Requirements by AIPT’s Qualified Trainer and Assessor the Student and Mentor will progress into the Certificate IV in Fitness component of the course.
The Mentor will be contacted by student to organise the final placement hours. Mentors must confirm the student is ready to undertake the Cert IV in Fitness placement.
Mentors will complete all required sections of the workbook, giving support to the student and observing the skill required to industry standards.
Mentor confirms student has completed all practical tasks and hours completed and checks all areas are sufficiently signed and completed.
It is essential to always check the workbook, to ensure you have completed all sections, comments and tick boxes
are checks and clear signature, as all incomplete workbook will not be accepted. This will cause delays for the student to progress and payment of invoices.
Mentor submits via email the “Mentor Declaration” form to confirm completion. This is tied to milestone payments - (under review)
Mentor maybe contacted by student if external assessor deems submission NYS
Mentor sends invoice
Student will undertake the final Competency Call, and once deemed completed, they will commence the Graduation process.
Graduation checks are completed by AIPT and students will be issued with Qualifications/Statements of Attainment, for all units they are deemed competent within and all student fees are paid.

Prior to the student initiating the practical hours and tasks with the allocated mentor, the student has a couple perquisite steps to complete and have an AIPT assessor or fitness support member mark as completed. These are:

ER Practical Tasks – Mentor and Student Responsibilities The following information contains the practical tasks and the identification of individual
responsibilities for either the mentor or student in the Entry Requirements section
PAP1 - Programming, Anatomy and Physiology
The instructions to the four (4) tasks are within this document. Please review the specifics of the
instructions when the student arrives
Student responsibilities

PAP1 Programming, Anatomy and Physiology practical instructions
The workbook
Mentor responsibilities
Your ‘the mentor’ responsibility in these tasks is to familiarize yourself with the instructions and
observe the student demonstrating each of the four (4) tasks. This task can be role played with you
or a third person.
Upon the completion of the four (4) tasks you are to record the results of the students’
performance “S” or “NYS” in the student workbook under the PAP1 section.
If the student is found to be “Not Yet Satisfactory” this will need to be recorded and a second
attempt will need to be organised. This can be performed straight away if time permits.

• The student is to demonstrate how to safely use 3 cardiovascular pieces of equipment - 15min to complete

observe the student demonstrating each task. This task can be role played with you or a third
person.
Upon the completion of the task 1a (5 clients) you are to record the results of the students’
performance “S” or “NYS” in the student workbook under the CS2 section.
If the student is found to be “Not Yet Satisfactory” this will need to be recorded and a second
attempt will need to be organised. This can be performed straight away if time permits.

Upon the completion of the two tasks you are to record the results of the students’
performance “S” or “NYS” in the student workbook.
If the student is found to be “Not Yet Satisfactory” this will need to be recorded and a second
attempt will need to be organised. This can be performed straight away if time permits.

Submission Process
Important Note:
It is the responsibility of the student to submit all course materials and student workbook upon the successful completion of the 40 practical hours.
The student will engage the Mentor once they have successfully been marked for the FA05 cluster theory assessments.
The mentor is responsible for signing:
The student workbook and supplying in depth comments regarding the observation of tasks
The logbook confirming the 40 hours of practical placement
Submitting the student/mentor declaration form to [email protected]
