3. Toattachtheheadandfootspring,pulltheblackknobawayfortheframeandslidethetwosides together.Thelockknobisspringloadedandwilllockintopositionwhenreleasedandthetwosections ofthebedareflushtogether.

To disassemble the head and foot section, pull the black lock knob out and rotate the knob a quarter turn. Thelockknobwillremainopentoallowtheheadsectiontoberemovedfromthefootsection.

HAND CONTROL

TheCompetitorbedcomeswithahandcontrolthatwillilluminatewhenthebedispluggedintoagroundedorpolarizedwalloutlet,orwith9Vbattery(notincluded)installedinthehandcontrol.Thehandcontrolwillilluminateaslongasthewallorbatteryhaspower.Withthisbatteryinstalled,themotorcanbeoperatedtoreturnthe sleep surface to the horizontal position in the event of apowerfailure.

ThetotalweightlimitoftheDriveMedical36-inch(91.4cm)wideManual/Electricbed(includingaccesso-ries,mattress,occupantandanyotherperson/objectpositionedonthebed)is450pounds(204kg.);350pounds(158kg)patientweight.

Usethisbedonlyforitsintendeduseasdescribedintheseinstructions.DO NOT use attachments not recommendedbythemanufacturer.

Afterraising/loweringthehead/footendofthebed,checkthedistancebetweenthebottomofthebedrailandthemattress.Ifthereisexcessivedistancebetweenthebottomofthebedrailandthemattressinwhichindividualsmaybecomeentangled,adjusttheheightofthebedrail(ifapplicable),orprovidealter-native means of patient protection.

Oncepatientassessmentconcludesthatthepatient’sconditionincreasesthechanceofentrapment,thebed MUSTbeintheflatpositionwhenleftunattended.

Proper patient assessment and monitoring, and proper maintenance and use of equipment is required to reducetheriskofentrapment.Variationsinbedraildimensions,andmattressthickness,sizeordensitycouldincreasetheriskofentrapment.VisittheFDAwebsiteathttp://www.fda.govtolearnabouttherisksof entrapment.

Replacementmattressesandbedsiderailswithdimensionsdifferentthantheoriginalequipmentsuppliedorspecifiedbythebedframemanufacturerarenotinterchangeable.Variationsinbedsideraildesign,widthandthicknessorfirmnessofthemattresscouldcause/contributetoentrapment.Useonlyautho-rizedDriveMedicalreplacementpartsand/oraccessoriesotherwisethewarrantyisvoid.DriveMedicalwillnotberesponsibleforanydamageorinjurythatmayresult.

To reduce the risk of entrapment make certain that the bed rail cross braces DO NOT exceedthewidthofthe mattress. Mattress MUST fitbedframeandsiderailssnuglytoreducetheriskofentrapment.

Whenoperatingthisbed, ALWAYS ensurethattheindividualutilizingthebedispositionedproperlywithintheconfinesofthebed.DO NOT letanyextremitiesprotrudeoverthesideorbetweenthebedrailswhenperforming these functions.

DriveMedicalrecommendsthatthemattressbecenteredonthebedframe.Otherwise,individualsmaybecomeentangledbetweenthebedrailandthebedframe.

BED RAIL WARNINGSAlthoughbedrailsarenotratedtoanyspecificweightlimitation,thebedrailsmaybecomedeformedorbrokenifexcessivesidepressureisexertedonthebedrails.Thebedrailisnotanassistrailforgettinginto or out of bed. DO NOTusethebedrailsaspushhandleswhenmovingthebed.

Alwaystesttomakesurethatthesiderailsareproperlyandsecurelyinplacebeforeusingthebed.

DO NOTinstalltheoptionalbedrailswithoutreadingandunderstandingalloftheinstructionsinthein-struction sheet that accompanies the bed rail kit.

DO NOT use the side rails as push handles for moving the bed.

Thesebedrailsareintendedtopreventanindividualfrominadvertentlyrollingoutofbed.DO NOT use for restraint purposes.

Whenusedwithamanual/electricalbed,thebedrails DO NOT fallunderanyweightlimitations.Bedrailscanbedeformedorbrokenifexcessivesidepressureisexertedonthebedrails.Thesebedrailsareusedforthepurposeofpreventinganindividualfrominadvertentlyrollingoutofbed.ThebedrailsareNOTintendednormaybeusedforrestraintpurposes.Ifanindividualiscapableofinjuringhimself/her-self,aphysicianorahealthcareprofessionalshouldbeconsultedforalternativemeansofsaferestraint.

ELECTRICAL WARNINGSAsafetyfeatureofthisproductincludesprotectionagainstoverheatingcausedbyexcessiveorextendedperiods of operation. Depending on the duration, this includes multiple or repeated adjustments or the use ofmultiplefunctionsatonetime.Toensuretroublefreeoperation,alwaysallowaslightpausebetweenmultiple adjustments and avoid pressing more than one function button at a time. If thermal protection activationshouldoccur,thebedwillnotrespondtopendantcommands.Giventhissituation,releasethependantbuttonandallowthebedunittositforseveralminutes.Thiswillallowtheprotectionfunctiontimetoresetandrestorebedfunction.Dependingonseverityoftheinitialoverheating,thiscouldtakeupto30minutes.

Allowaslightpausebetweenadjustmentsandavoidpressingmultiplebuttonsatthesametime.Ifpendantbuttonsaredepressedtoorapidlyormultiplebuttonsarepressedatthesametime,thedesiredfeaturemaynotactivate.Simplyreleasethependantbutton,permitaslightpauseandthenactivatethenextoperation.

ALWAYSremovemanualcrank(s)beforeperformingelectronicfunctions.Otherwise,thecrank(s)willturnwhenthemotorisonandcouldcausepersonalinjuryordamagetothebed.

Alwaysunplugthebedfromtheelectricaloutletbeforecleaning.

DO NOTopenassembliessuchasthemotors,pendant,junctionboxesorgearboxes.Nouserservice-ablepartsareinside.Onlyqualifiedtechniciansarepermittedtorepairtheseparts.Ifunqualifiedindividu-alsperformanyworkonthesebeds,thewarrantyisvoid.

DO NOTplacependantunderorbetweenobjects.Thismayunintentionallypressthebuttonsandmaycauseinjuryordamage.

ElectronicequipmentmaybeinfluencedbyRadioFrequencyInterference(RFI).Cautionshouldbeexer-cisedwithregardtotheuseofportablecommunicationsequipmentintheareaaroundsuchequipment.IfRFI causes erratic behavior, unplug the electric bed IMMEDIATELY.Leaveunpluggedwhiletransmissionis in progress.

Ensureallcablesandcordsareroutedsuchthattheywillnotbecomeentangledorpinched.Otherwisedamageorinjurymayresult.

Ifabuttononthependantdoesnotreleaseorsticks,thebedspringwillnotstopmoving.

If a liquid is spilled in or around the electric bed, unplug the electric bed before cleaning. Clean up the spill andallowtheelectricbedortheareaaroundtheelectricbedtodrythoroughlybeforeusingtheelectriccontrols again.

Inspectthecoveringofthebed’scontrolpanelandthepatientcontrolpaneltoassurethatthecoveringisnot cracked or damaged.

Keepallelectricalcordsawayfromheatedorhotsurfaces.

NEVER operateiftheunithasadamagedcordorplug.Ifitisnotworkingproperly,callaqualifiedtechni-cianforexaminationandrepair.
