HOW TO APPLY STAGE MAKEUP FOR DANCERS
Remember, the final results should look gaudy we want our features to stand out on stage under the bright lights.
Please apply your makeup in the following order:
EYELASHES
1. Always put on eyelashes before putting on any makeup!2. Dot some glue on your hand. Run the edge of the eyelash through the glue so that there is a very thin line of
glue on the lash. If you try to put the glue on directly from the tube you run the risk of blobs of glue making
things messy. Let the glue sit on the eyelash for 30 seconds or so to become tacky before applying.
3. Starting at the inside corner, apply lash AS CLOSE TO THE REAL EYELASHES AS POSSIBLE. Aim to attach the falseeyelashes where the actual lashes attach to the skin. Press down to ensure things are stuck in place.
4. Have the dancer open their eyes briefly to ensure that the lashes look okay. After that, keep the eyes closed forat least 45 seconds or longer until the glue has dried clear.
5. Sometimes eyelids get glued together, lashes stuck to skin, etc. These things happen! It does take some practice. If this does happen, do your best to correct the problem without removing the false eyelashes the less glue
you are dealing with the better!
6. As soon as you take off the lashes, peel off any remaining glue and store them properly in their case. Your lashesshould last the whole season if you care for them properly. Bonus they are a lot easier to put on when they are
clean and clear of leftover, dried up glue!
7. The lashes you receive with your costume are high quality and need to be used for competition. Lashes boughtat the dollar store, etc. are generally not as long and a different style, not to mention more uncomfortable to
wear. If for whatever reason you need a new pair, please ask Meghan as she has extra pairs of the proper style.
EYES
1. Use foundation on the eyelids & blend. This helps to keep the makeup looking fresh.2. Cover the entire eye area (from lashes to eyebrow) with white eyeshadow. It should extend past the outer edge
of the eye. Dot some eyeshadow (or white eyeliner) in the inner corner of the eyes to make them appear larger.3. Cover the entire eyelid (from lashes to crease) with a medium shade of brown. Again, this should extend slightly
past the outer edge of the eye.
4. Using a dark brown eyeshadow, cover the outer half of the eyelid (from the centre of the eye to the outsidecorner). Blend with your finger or a q-tip.
5. Line the bottom of the eyelid from the outer corner to the centre of the eye with a black or dark brown liner.6. Draw in a wing using eyeliner from the outer corner of the eye, draw a short line curving upward. It should
follow the line of the eyelashes and frame the white eyeshadow.
CHEEKS
1. Make a fish face or a big smile to find the proper place to put blush2. Brush on the blush fairly heavily along the cheekbone & up toward the hairline3. Blend with your fingers
LIPS
1. Stretch the lips out so they are as flat as possible2. Carefully apply the lipstick following the natural line of the lip (you may use lip liner if you find one that matches)3. Make sure that you get the corners of the mouth and the inner part of the lip.

HAIR TIPS FOR DANCERS
Things to have on hand:
- Hairspray- Gel or spray gel- Fine-tooth comb with a tail- Bobby pins and hair pins- Hair net to match hair- Hair elastics to match hair
GENERAL TIPS
1. You can never have enough hairspray!2. Comb, comb, and comb some more.3. It helps is hair is slightly greasy (wont slip around
as much). Ms. Meghan doesnt wash her hair for a
few days before performance time.
4. If you need help ASK!5. Practice, practice, practice.
BASIC BUN AND LOW PONYTAIL
1. Comb hair out so that it is tangle free and easy to work with.2. Using the tail end of a comb, part the hair on the left-hand side of the dancers head. The part should begin at the
front of the hair, centered over the left eye, and extend straight back 4 6 inches.
3. Using LOTS of hairspray, comb all of the hair back into a low ponytail. The ponytail should be centered at the back ofthe head. For a bun, it should be in line with centre of ears. For a ponytail, it should be slightly lower, at the very
bottom of the head.4. No bumps allowed! You will likely need to comb back and re-do the ponytail several times before getting it
completely flat. Using lots of spray and a fine-tooth comb will help. Make sure that all of the bangs are slicked back
into the rest of the hair as well.
5. Use an elastic that matches your hair to secure the ponytail.6. For a ponytail: Comb out the ponytail and use a flat-iron to straighten it out we want it nice and as sleek as
possible! If you do not have a flat-iron, many of the dancers have one and are willing to share you can just do this
step at competition. For those of us with frizzy hair, do your best
7. For a bun: Use many hair pins and bobby pins to secure all hair around the elastic. Wrap the hairnet tightly aroundthe bun, and pin in place.
8. Add the scrunchie or hair clip, and be sure to bobby pin it in place!!!9. Add one final blast of hairspray to keep it all in place (we werent kidding about never having enough!) Your childs
hair should look shiny and feel hard/stiff.
HIGH CURLY PONYTAIL
1. Comb hair out so that it is tangle free and easy to work with.
2. Using the tail end of a comb, part the hair on the left-hand side of the dancers head. The part should begin at the
front of the hair, centered over the left eye, and extend straight back 4 6 inches.
3. Using LOTS of hairspray comb all of the hair back and up into a high ponytail. The ponytail should be centered at
the crown of the head, not at the back.
4. No bumps allowed! You will likely need to comb back and re-do the ponytail several times before getting it
completely flat. Using lots of spray and a fine-tooth comb will help. Make sure that all of the bangs are slicked back
into the rest of the hair as well.
5. Use an elastic that matches your hair to secure the ponytail.
6. Use rags or foam rollers to curl the hair. DO NOT USE A CURLING IRON this will not result in the ringlet type
curls we need, nor will it last long enough. The method that I find works best:
a) Separate a strand of hair from the ponytail and twist it
b) Spray with hairspray
c) Wrap around roller and secure as close to top of ponytail as possible

d) Sleep with curlers in (the longer they are in curlers the better the curl)
e) Arrive at competition with curlers in and remove once you are at the venue (allow for extra prep time)
7. Once you remove the curlers, give it a quick spray but not TOO much if they get too wet the curl will fall.
8. Using a comb and hairspray, fix up the top of the ponytail and slick back any wispies that have come loose
9. Add the scrunchie or hair clip, and be sure to bobby pin it in place!!!
10. Tips for keeping the curl: Keep a hairnet over curls until time to go on stage, use bobby pins to help pin curls up
nice and tight, or if all else fails, getting a hairpiece!
11. If you have naturally curly hair you still need to get the ringlet look. We have found that Aussie brand ScrunchSpray works well as a curl enhancer. Its in a purple spray bottle and must be applied to wet hair. This will keep
your hair in control and looking the same as the rest of the group.
TWO BUNS
1. Comb hair out so that it is tangle free and easy to work with.2. Using the tail end of a comb, part the hair in the centre of the dancers head. The part should begin at the front
of the hair and continue all the way to the back of the head/neck.
3. Using LOTS of hairspray, comb all of the hair into two pigtails. Each one should be centered between the ear andthe part in the centre.
4. No bumps allowed! You will likely need to comb back and re-do the ponytails several times before getting itcompletely flat. Using lots of spray and a fine-tooth comb will help. Make sure that all of the bangs and shorter
hairs at the back of the head are slicked back into the rest of the hair as well.
5. Use elastics that match your hair to secure the pigtails.6. Twist each pigtail around itself, and then wrap the twisted strand about the elastic. Use bobby pins and hair pins
as you wrap to secure the hair. If your child does not have enough hair to make a bun, you will need to get some
of the fake hair scrunchies from the dollar store. Wrap them around the elastic and pin them in.
7. Wrap a fine hairnet that matches your childs hair around each bun. The hairnet should help to pull the bun inand make it look solid. Use more pins to secure the bun.
8. Add the scrunchies, and be sure to bobby pin them in place!!!9. Add one final blast of hairspray to keep it all in place (we werent kidding about never having enough!). Your
childs hair should look shiny and feel hard/stiff.
HIGH PONYTAIL WITH A POUF
1. Use a flat-iron to straighten your hair. If you do not have a flat-iron, many of the dancers have one and arewilling to share you can just do this step at competition. For those of us with frizzy hair, do your best
2. Using the tail end of a comb, separate a small section of hair at the front of your head. It should extend from thecentre of one eye to the other.
3. Spray this section with hairspray and pull it straight up. Use the comb to slightly tease the back of the hair tohelp it stand up.
4. Curve the hair back, making a small pouf at the front of your head. Keep using your comb and spray to adjust.Once you get it looking right, use MANY bobby pins to secure the hair section at the top of your head. Add LOTS
of hairspray to keep it in place.
5. Using LOTS of hairspray comb the rest of your hair back and up into a high ponytail. The ponytail should becentered at the top of the crown of the head, not at the back.
6. No bumps allowed! You will likely need to comb back and re-do the ponytail several times before getting itcompletely flat. Using lots of spray and a fine-tooth comb will help. Make sure that all of the short hairs at the
side and back of the head are slicked back into the rest of the hair as well.
7. Use an elastic that matches your hair to secure the ponytail.
